    I was an Air Force medical tech. I worked in internal medicine. Drug reps (as we called them) wined and dined us all the time. They catered our lunches in the office, calling ahead asking what we wanted, but then we had to listen to their presentation while we ate. We got tickets to local attractions, paid dining out with our spouses as well as pro baseball tickets and bunches of other gifts which DID NOT include any talk of their product. All so our doctors would request the companies newest drug to be added to our military's hospital pharm list. I am sure it still goes on to this day!

    Can't thank you enough for what you do Dr Greger... not a day goes by where we don't refer someone to your website or videos! A plant based saint with a kick ass attitude ;)

      @vegangainsslightlylessreta2149 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +That Vegan Couple You don't mind that Greger receives money and gifts from The Humane Society? He's directly affiliated and endorsed by them and PETA.

    • @vegangainsslightlylessreta2149
      @vegangainsslightlylessreta2149 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      jbmop So you don't find him working for The Humane Society to be a direct conflict of interest?

    • @vegangainsslightlylessreta2149
      @vegangainsslightlylessreta2149 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      jbmop But he's conflating ethics with diet.
      If lions killed gazelles and then left them to rot without eating them, we'd think "Damn, that's messed up. That's wrong." despite the fact the lion is not a moral agent (it doesn't have the capacity to be one). It would be in line with the idea of murder because the lion simply killed the gazelle for no good purpose.
      If the lion kills the gazelle and then eats it, we don't see anything wrong with that because the lion is simply living in accordance with nature. He must eat meat to survive and provide sustenance for himself. Lion lives, gazelle dies, the equation is balanced. Gazelle lives, lion starves, equation still balanced. Life feeds on life, energy consumes energy, etc. This is the way of things.
      Humans, for the most part, do quite well on an omnivorous diet. Many times, better than a strictly plant based diet. Thus, telling a meat eating omnivorous species (humans) to not eat meat is unethical in itself because it can possibly cause harm to humans. Much like bears, where some bears thrive on a meat heavy diet, like grizzlies, and other bears thrive on a plant heavy diet, like pandas, omnivorous species can have wide variation between proper diets for them depending on genetic heritage, geolocation, etc. To recommend all humans to eat a strictly plant based diet is unscientific.
      Just because humans are moral agents does not mean that when we kill animals for sustenance that it is wrong because "we know killing be bad." There is nothing morally wrong, in accordance with the way nature works, with a human eating meat to survive and for energy. Animal abuse, such as that seen in CAFOs, is obviously morally wrong because it's causing unnecessary suffering. We could do much better. We should be pushing for better treatment of animals, not using pseudoscience to push diets on people which may not be their optimal diet in which to thrive on (strictly plant based works very poorly for many people).
      Sorry for the long rant. Do you not see how conflating ethics with diet is a huge problem?

    • @vegangainsslightlylessreta2149
      @vegangainsslightlylessreta2149 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      jbmop Many times as in often, not multiplication factor.
      Everything I said is true. I do not care to defend my sentiments to you. You can do your own research. For the anecdotal evidence, perhaps look around at all the healthy people that have consumed animal products for their entire lives? Look at the healthy and thriving people on ketogenic or paleo diets? And perhaps look at anthropology and see that for all of human existence, we've eaten meat. Humans are omnivores. Do you disagree?

    • @vegangainsslightlylessreta2149
      @vegangainsslightlylessreta2149 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      jbmop There's tons of data and anecdotal evidence (which is NOT valueless). Again, do your research. I simply do not care what you have to say you fear mongering hippy. I think that veganism is literally akin to a mental disorder, perhaps not at first but it eventually has symptoms of one. I know because I've been there. I've felt the impacts of this brainwashing. It's really quite remarkable. I've done literally 1000+ hours of research and I'm still on the fence. Actually, no I'm not, I'm 100% convinced veganism theory has many flaws and there are numerous paths to a healthy life.
      It's like telling me not to drive, based on data and statistics of the general population who tend to be quite horrible drivers, even though I personally drive very safely and my personal risks of driving are much lower than the stats would suggest. Eat meat and eat your veggies and fruit, in balance, and live a healthy lifestyle, and all risks become minimal.
      You want to deprive yourself of something your nature so desperately desires (meat) for some greater good cause, go ahead.

    It should be illegal for doctors to accept any sort of compensation or gifts from drug companies or to fraternize with drug company representatives, and it should be illegal for drug companies to solicit these doctors to push their products in any way.

      +Tim Brown I use these guys. . . www.opensecrets.org/
      It has exposed a number of sleazy connections between bought politicians selling their votes to the highest bigger. I have found the financial companies (remember Too Big to Fail Banks?) and health industries to be the most generous in spreading money to both parties in large quantities. Curiously, no matter how bad these companies behave, almost no one ever goes to jail. Almost no one is ever prosecuted. Almost no one is ever seriously investigated. Gee, ya think there's a coincidence?

    Did you know the number one recruiting place for pharma sales reps is college cheer leaders? Fact. Have ever seen these young women? Young, shapely, very pretty, dressed in tight blouses and mini skirts, usually with a young good looking guy carrying a bag of Rx samples. An MDs office near me, several sharing a practice, used to get a catered gourmet lunch once a week. My FedEx person told me about it. She was invited every Wed., because they just had more food than they could eat. These are relatively small. How about the week long conferences in places like golf resorts, the Caribbean, ski resorts, etc. that are completely paid for. This has been going on for decades. There is, dare I say it, one small benefit to the patient, if an Rx is needed, always ask if they have any samples, usually they have plenty and be glad to give them to you.

      +Joseph1NJ This is super interesting - pharma sales reps college cheer leaders - that's kinda irresistable - this whole follow the money thing is just so saddening - doctors are supposed to help human beings, sexy women are supposed to be courted, not prostitute themselves for fucking drug companies. It's just so sad. Nothing's about empowering people and increasing human health and happiness. Wait, no I guess Michael Gregor is. And this video. It's weird that you have do defend yourself against your doctor, statistically speaking.

    • @solimander1
      @solimander1 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Joseph1NJ To reply twice, I had a good friend who was a pharma rep - yeah, she was sexy as fuck and had beau coup (spelling?) bucks. Very nice and intelligent. I tried talking to her about Joel Fuhrman and she launched into some shit about how pharma was helping people (with "non addictive" pain medication). Interesting how delusions work - we're paid to believe something, it's probably hard to not believe it, especially if all the spin is provided for you and, you know, you're successful and are ostensibly helping people. And to question it would be to shit your career away or require extensive remodeling of said career.

    Very disturbing. Where's the objectivity? These Dr's need to take a wider view of the whole situation. They need to take a step back and honestly ask themselves if these kickbacks are appropriate, and are my treatment decisions being influenced? Am I doing the best for my patients, or the drug companies and their representatives?

    Thanks for uploading this, in 31 years of being in treatment you are the only doctor who I feel to take his responsibility seriously. There is an insane amount of negligence and subjects like these are taboo.
    All these years I've felt like doctors and psychiatrists had some sort of diplomatic immunity, their mistakes are swept under the rug and meanwhile they profit off of sick people, humans who are already having ailments are simply used to make money and keep the system going.
    So, thanks for making these videos and keep up the good work.

    A lot of docs care BUT, Cardiologist seem to be the most liable for malpractice. At this point the HAVE to know about the benefits of a plant diet. But MOST continue to not recommend it. This happened to my husband. "Oh yeah, I heard of Forks Over Knives, here is your pill and come back to see me in few months". We didn't go back. We got a thorough before and after lab report from our new family doctor and he told my husband, you don't need your pills anymore :)! He was always told it was in his genes and it was in his fork all along. Thank you for all that you and the people who work for you do, Dr. Greger!

    As a physician I am often asked to hear about a product and that may include a presentation over lunch. New products and new technologies are always presented in this manner. It is not evil, it's often just education. Trust me, if they have a crappy product, a free lunch won't buy me out. Dr Greger is not the only ethical Doctor...

    On the flip side, if you are looking for doctors who adopt some of the newer medications having to do with medical break throughs (related to disease treatment/research) and the pharmaceutical company either can't or won't disclose who is familiar with the product, you can use that database to find out which doctors in your area are taking money from that particular pharmaceutical company to better track down who is familiar with it and ask for consults with them.

      little to no drugs are as useful as the right diet.
      if a human has actual DNA-damage for example then yes, drugs and treatment might be helpful, but as you follow Dr. Greger and nutritionfacts.org you find out how lifestyle medicine provides 80-99% of solutions to those unnecessary chronic diseases.
