It's unbelivable. I always wanted to achieve film-like colors from my GX80, but never managed to do so. Post-edits were never satisfying enough. You're the first one that did it perfectly. Absolutelly amazing. Please, share some tips on editing these fotos. This video is game changer for me.
With all due respect, this is far from "film-like" colors... the color saturation on these images is extreme... some of the most artificial editing I've seen in a while.
@@simonkimber1152 agree with you both. It does evoke Martin Parr's seaside images from the 70s/80s but then they were shot on cheap film with old optics. These feel like there's a lot of vibrancy/saturation added but the contrast has been pulled back. Skin tones look like everybody has severe sunburn.
I picked this exact setup (GX80 and Leica 15mm) recently and it has been such a game changer for me! It's now always in my bag wherever I go because it's so light and small. Will probably switch to a GX9 soon though because I always fiddle with exposure comp
love the 20mm, it is a great compromise of size, price, and performance. i have the 14mm pancake to cover the need for slightly wider. the 15mm looks tempting, but the price/size keeps me with the 14mm. also, fantastic grab @5:41. one of my faves from this series.
I took the GX80 plus the 20mm as well as the LUMIX 14mm and a Zuiko 30mm macro on a recent holiday to Sicily. It all fitted in a bum bag, along with a PD battery to keep it charged. It’s a nice discreet camera that doesn’t draw attention, and gives great results. And much cheaper than most new smartphones.
Both lens are amazing but the 15mm is also my favourite. Recently I've been using the sigma 30mm 1.4 more on my gx9, it's great little setup for photographing people.
I love watching your videos, a lovely walk in the sun by the Thames taking photos! Perfect day! Your blues and oranges are just beautiful colours. I’m thinking of getting this 15mm leica lens for my old GH4, which also has a 16 mp sensor like your GX80. You have some mad skills, keep making the videos! The photo of the boats under the bridge is 👌
You should also do a video about the Lumix GX7, GX8, GX9 and Olympus Pen-F. All are small powerful cameras. My favorite lens for street photo is my silver Panasonic Leica 15MM F/1.7
In NYC for street photography walkabout with my GX85. Was going with the PL15 related to its size and weight. Plan B was the P12-60. Went with Plan B. I am so happy I am using the 12-60. It is so much more flexible than a prime. 24-120mm has made my life so much easier. Am spending a lot of time this weekend at a large street festival. Many of the images I’ve created couldn’t have been achieved without this relatively small but powerful lens. Upon returning to Seattle I’ll return to primes. This lens has turned out to be the right tool for the job. PS: ordered and awaiting issue #6. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
Excellent video and pictures. I've had this camera (GX85 US version) and the 20mm 1.7 lens for over 4 years, and I've been super satisfied with this camera. Small and packed with features (only wish? Audio input/output) Consistently solid pictures and video. The 12-32 kit lens that came with it is also a very good lens, especially outside.
Wonderful photographs which transports the mood of this summerday realy nice. I wonder my self how do you edit your files to get these smooth, light and vibrant look. It would be very interesting to see a video about your way of editing. Thanks and all the best
LOVE my Lumix GX85 (marked up from the Lumix GX 80 in Europe). Small. Light. Inexpensive. I use the Panny/Leica 15mm lens (the closest I’m ever going to get to Leica). I’m going to purchase the Panny 20mm lens but don’t think the will be much of a difference. Maybe a step or two? This bit of gear is so much fun to use. In bright sunlight, the tiny M43 lens does the job. This body takes lovely 4K 24/25 fps video clips, sadly no mic receptor. I do love the IBIS. Haven’t checked out the GX95 with the 20 meg sensor. The GX85 does a good enough job. Sometimes good enough is good enough. Still love my Fuji gear. The GX85 and G9 have all the bells and whistles I need and want. Bought your volume II zine. Nice job. Got mugged on the S&H but suppose that can’t be helped. Really enjoyed Joshua L Jackson’s work. Mask On Nurse Marty
Hugely appreciate the support with the magazine Martin - apologies about the international shipping - we’ve kept it as cheap as we possibly can ! There’s not much in it with the two lenses in all honesty , it’s mostly about the size
Get that 3rd issue up on the site! As soon as I saw Harold Feinstein's name I was absolutely thrilled. One of my favourite photographers after watching Last Stop Coney Island so really excited to get the next issue. His poem Before the Sweetness is the most moving thing I've ever read, especially as a father myself.
One of the most underrated little cameras Panasonic ever built for the MFT Lumix line. An excellent street kit. It's also a very capable B-roll video camera.
wonderful, just bough this camera. i hope you share how you setting this camera for street photography purpose like auto focus or manual setting and other setting.
I picked the 20mm and not the 15mm, cause i’m fad up with the “smartphone” camera feeling. (Most phones uses 28mm lens at fullframe size wich is 14mm in M43 amd this crop is boring for me. The tighter crop of the 20mmhelps me to think what is important on fhe frame and what is not. It helps to reduce the “noise”
I love your sense of composition / framing, Josh !! By the way, what's the cam you're using for the b-roll (in bet. stills)...It's pretty good, actually !!!
Absorbing and interesting photo walk,as always. Some great compositions…which you make look easy! I realise you spent quite some time perfecting your edited colour light blue/orange palette look…which when seen next to the actual locations, does look rather other worldly. It does mean One can easily spot one of your photos, but I wondered if you ever look at some shots with a different edited look? The Framelines magazines are excellent too….looking forward to the next one!
I am interested in this camera potentially with the 20mm, I am curious how it would be as a potential dadcam? and how do B/W images render with this sensor? I currently shoot a canon 5D with a pancake 40mm which I love the results from but the camera is a bit on the chonk side. Thanks!
This same setup is about ~550 today. Here in the U.S it's the GX85, and I'm on the fence whether or not it's still worth it. I'm looking at an almost-new GX85 with a 12-32 for roughly 450. I'm just not sure its worth it considering the other options.
How to turn off constant notifications from body Lumix GX80 about setting proper focal length (35mm - I use manual lens Arrisans 35mm 1.2 )? Always from sleep or turn on asking me. Thank you for help
I love this camera but I question the use of the word "budget". To me it implies cheap and cheerful, second rate or, not as good as. Could it not be as good as some other cameras at twice the price or maybe some of those other cameras are simply over priced (Fujifilm X100 v1). I have heard it described as a beginners camera. What? It took me a while to get my head round the menu system. I'm no pro but I'm no stranger to camera menus either. I think this will be my go to camera for some time to come. I should add that having suffered from GAS (gear aquisition syndrome) in the past I'm beginning to learn that less can be more. Thanks for the vid.
sadly orfunny but I have owned mine since 2018 and never knew it had a rear TILT screen, so now I basically have a new to me camera lols. the only thing I can say to new users is keep it basic and take a lot of pictures starting from auto so they can learn to compose and experiment then switch to the manual modes one at a time until they feel like an expert in each one before they switch to the next mode. as far as video which is as good as any camera Ive ever used, I recommend that you start in auto 720p then you will see an improvement as you switch to 1080 or 4k realizing 4k uses a lot of space on the SD card and Hard drive.
Josh, how do you find the evf on the GX80? I have seen people say it is worse than useless and others say it is fine, just not compared to oled. Are people being over critical? Cheers
It does the job , could definitely be better, considering everything else the camera does I think it’s a fine trade off. The GX8 has a much much better VF but its much bigger, louder and slower.
If you had a DCC40 to do white balance lock, no one can shoot better photo quality than your GX80 photo. If any photo has a slight color cast from either AWB or post, there is no photo quality at all. My photo with GX85 has the world top photo quality.

@@ms6465I like them though. Now, in the middle of winter, they bring me these summer feels)

Nice to see some love for Lumix. Love my GX9. Just been away with it and I'm so happy with the pics I got. Superb travel cameras.
Lumix GX85 + Leica 15mm F1.7 is my go to set up for street photography for last 4 years.
Can’t go wrong !
@@frame-lines I even sold any other lens that came with Lumix GX85. Just sticking it to Leica 15mm. If I buy 1 more lens, it would be olympus 45mm.

Ah thank you ! Glad you like them !
Yesss! Would you mind doing a video editing the pictures or are they straight jpeg?
Taking pictures for the sake of taking pictures! Beautiful saying and excellent video and pictures 📷

It seems that GX9 isn't really better than GX85. I've seen many reviews about it.
Nice one Val
Hmmm… I’ve been debating picking up the gx9 actually. The tiltable VF looks really handy.
I’d convert my gx80 to IR.

I can also recommend the Lumix LX-15 as a bargain. The biggest Ricoh GR competitor. I bought mine for 150€ from MPB.
Lots of great m43 lenses out there for sure !
I sold my gx3 and bought a lumix gx9 another world

Do the pictures come out looking "vintage" or are they edited? Great video!
What lens did you shoot the walking videos with? Sorry it's not obvious to me.
I like the color of the video better that the photo stills.
Thats because of the post processing, not because of camera settings

I’m talking about used prices 🙌
people are sleeping on this camera, everyone is so focused in overpriced fujifilms, definetly picking this one instead.
I would have a question tho, to whoever designed the GX80. Why do you want to torture people by inserting a strap lug into their noses?
Yes it is a bit low down for some reason - to do with the EVF I reckon
"wider focal length"
The colours are hideous.
