    I bought the GX7 several yrs ago, I liked it so much that I upgraded to the GX9 which has IBIS and great for hand heald photography
    As a matter of fact, I use it more than my DSLRS 📷👍

    Reason 6:
    It pairs beautifully with the Panasonic Leica 15mm f/1.7 lens.

    Yesterday, I took my GX85 out after a couple of years of only using it around the house. I had forgotten how nimble and fun it is, and the image quality was still perfectly acceptable. There are times when I'm tempted to buy a secondhand GH1 or GH2 for the sake of just having these cameras, but owning later models like the GX85, GH4 and G9 would make those older cameras unnecessary. With a few of the Olympus f1.8 primes or Panasonic f1.7 primes, the GX85 can be carried almost anywhere, and offers a beautifully small but high quality travel kit.

    • @madsciencefilms
      @madsciencefilms  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The GH2 can be a phenomenal video camera if hacked. M43 definitely has its place in the photography world and the Gx85 is a fantastic example of how relevant the system is today in 2022.

    Nice review and yes it is still a good buy. My 1st M43 camera was a new GX85 about 3 or so years ago and I liked it so much I picked up a used one that needed to be fixed but now I have 2 of these awesome gems. I have since picked up a G7, G95, an EPL1 and 2 EM10s, the Mii and the MiiiS. I also have several APSC from Sony and Nikon as well as Nikon FF but my most used cameras are M43 mainly the GX85s and EM10s.

    This is a lovely, lovely camera but I hate the absence of the mic input. Being able to attach a wireless mic or on-camera boom would have made this my perfect travel camera. At this time, I think the Fuji X-T20 is a better option. The lenses are not as light, and it doesn't have IBIS, but it offers a mic input, slightly bigger sensor and decent 4K, albeit with a shorter record time

    The camera is not an old camera, although manufacturers will have you beleive otherwise so that you are anticipating the arrival of a new model the day after buying yours. It is a perfectly good and capable camera in 2024. The hype surrounding the Fujifilm cameras does not inspire me to buy one....in fact, the reverse.

    GX 85 or Ricoh GR iii?

    • @willermax
      @willermax 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This as use case question - Ricoh GR iii has 24 megapixels and a fixes lens 35mm equivalent focal length -- while Gx 85 has 16 megapixels - here you have access to many lenses all the lenses in the MFT line up - you have lumix lense and olympus&OMD lenses
      For more information there are the spec links

    • @raksh9
      @raksh9 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know at least one person who replaced their Ricoh GR with the GX85 and Olympus 12mm f2 and is happy. The sensor isn't quite as good as the GR III, but it has other features like proper IBIS, the ability to change lenses, and excellent video as seen above. But if you only want to take photos at 28mm equivalent and want something that fits in a pocket, the GR III is the better choice. If I was going on a trip and had the option, I would take the GX85 with a few fast primes and perhaps a smaller pocket camera like the LX10 or Sony RX100.

    • @willermax
      @willermax 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@raksh9 Well it seems like you know the ins and outs of the cameras - So it comes to your use case. pick Well and have fun!

    • @martingreenberg870
      @martingreenberg870 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@willermax The GR III has a large cult following. Major benefits: small as is pocket size small; APSC sensor vs. M43 which is 2x the size of the GX85 sensor; snap focus which is zone focus; built for one hand operation. Don’t have the GR III because: no view finder, don’t like the 28mm FOV; not a big zone focuser.
      I have owned the GX85 for several years. The sensor is OK for my needs. LOVE the IBIS. Love the ability to change lenses. Have the Pany 15mm on the body all the time. Overall it is a small and light bit of kit. Good enough is sometimes goood enough.

    A6000 or GX85?

    • @madsciencefilms
      @madsciencefilms  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Has to be Gx85. The 4K, IBIS and no low pass filter makes it a far better option. The Sony A6000 video AF isn’t much better than the GX85 either.

    • @silverlightphotoco
      @silverlightphotoco 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would say the GX85 is much, much better than the A6000, and the closest Sony that could compete would be one with IBIS (In-Body Image Stabilization) and 4K video, which the A6000 doesn't have, and while the A6000 is okay for stills, it overheats when recording video...

    • @cristianfilip596
      @cristianfilip596 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, depends what do you want to do with it, I had a6000 for a few months, I recently bought gx80/gx85 like second camera, I would say to go with panasonic, despite it has 16 mpx instead of 24, it has touch screen and ibis, nicer colors.

      @madsciencefilms  ปีที่แล้ว +1
