- Found VHS footage of Blue Murder (John Sykes, Carmine Appice, Tony Franklin) performing live on Mtv's Big Al Show (Weird Al Yankovic) in 1989, as well as the Yahoo Serious show, also on Mtv. They perform their songs "Billy" on the Big Al Show, and "Jelly Roll" on the Yahoo Serious Show.

Prob the most underated Guitarist/Singer & Band of all time.
😮
This whole album is straight fire. I'd put it in my my top 5 qlbums of all time.
JOHNN SYKKESSS
unfortunately they came out just at the beginning of grunge craze, what a shame
Not underrated by those who know... most rock guitarists have Sykes in their top 5 all time... dude is a friggin savant
John Sykes. Phenomenal musician guitarist.
I do not know exactly where JS is in his life but I would mortgage my home to see these 3 very talented men back together on tour…
My world is not complete until then!😩
I wore this album out, and named my cat "Billy" because of it. He lived to the ripe old age of 18. BADASS song!
Superb album. Out of love again has to be the best ballad of the era
Tony Iommi, Tony Levin, Bobby Kimball and Carmine Appice would make the greatest mustache rock band ever
Lemmy?
Don't forget Don "Buck Dharma" Roeser from Blue Oyster Cult.
Sykes is a monster!!!!!!
Tony Franklin is a fretless playing beast ! All three guys are quality musicians. 🎸🥁🎸
Wow! Jesus, this is the manifestation of talent!!!!!! Three of the most talented musicians and vocalist on the Earth. Much appreciation.
Four... don't forget the keyboard player
Still stands up today. A band on fire with pure talent. All Gods of their respective instruments. Fucking awesome. Kids, this is what you gotta do. Master an instrument and believe…..
Absolutely
Wtffff it was 5 mins into the song before I realized dude is playing a fretless bass! These guys are the real deal.
Wow, that was great. I've been a fan of John Sykes since the 80s and I've never really seen him play those blistering solos live until this video. There's like a special magic that happens with musical talent, like a spark.
There are some serious synchronisation problems - A lot of his parts weren't played live there.
These songs could have been Whitesnake’s next album! Damn!
That's exactly what I was thinking while I was watching this. Coverdale could have been all over this s***. Too bad for him that he didn't try and make Sykes happy. They could have been the next led Zeppelin.
I'd love to see a universe where this gets made by Whitesnake, and Steve Vai just moves straight from David Lee Roth to a solo career. I feel like all parties would have been better for it.
What’s wrong with the Blue Murder album? Sykes is a great vocalist for those songs.
@@gabrielbrouwer he's a good singer. I feel like the presence of Coverdale, Airey, and Vandenberg would have made these songs even better. Just an IMO.
Nah. This is a great Sykes album. What do you mean a next Whitesnake album 😂
Those days are gone…sadly. Loved Blue Murder!
They live on because we're still listening and I'm educating my kids in music. Yes they have their own taste and rebel against parents, but I guarantee they'll come back to 80s rock because it's ingrained in their childhood
Incredible security and scenic professionalism of John Sykes, a virtuoso in all bands that has passed, a great Blue Murder band with great musicians
This is so epic. Everything this guy does is epic and majestic. You could hear the entire White Snake sound going on while he's singing and playing. And he looks killer. 🙋
These guys have it all...brilliant musicianship..excellent songwriting ability..charismatic stage presence!!! Can’t get enough of ‘em!!!!
この映像とプレイはすごい!ぶっ飛んでる。この3人でのブルーマーダーはまさに最強だった。
Bought this casette tape when I was 14. Just realised now JS was part of one of my favorite Thin Lizzy live recordings. This is a year before Grunge changed everyones taste in music. Now I'm listening to it again.
Blue Murder is a awesome band !! Always loved there music!!
There? Where?
@@ddinfant679 ????
He's calling out your grammar mistake. It's "their" music, not "there" music. Some people do that on the internet. Not sure why.......@@jameswinborne3541
So damn dynamic! Wish they would make another record! Make it happen, John!
One of the absolute greatest hard rock bands that many people have never heard of…Sykes, Appice & Franklin…
SUPER BAND!!
❤️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️❤️
that band shoulda been fucking HUUUUUGE! I got to see them live once, front row at small club, Sykes about 2 feet in front of me, those mother fuckers blew our heads off! One of the best club shows I ever saw
I still can't believe this sounds so good for 1989... I want to see John Sykes in concert but from what I've been reading in the comments it ain't going to happen 😢
Sykes is a Master guitar player, but actually I think he is a better singer than Coverdale. Great song writer
Awesome! We need a reunion and I know Tony and Carmine are up for it.
Sykes can f-cking sing man! Carmine is killing sh-t here The solo section they are all ripping, the bass during the solo (which itself murders) is ridiculous. THey sound incredible live, even on this lowfi VHS dub with bad sound. Imagine being in the same room as these guys!
Nothing short of incredible
Don't know if Mr. Sykes is a better singer or guitarist. Absolutely amazing!
I saw Kings X and Blue Murder open for Billy Squier back in 1989. Tremendous show!
Me 2/ in Cleveland same year*******
One of the Greatest Rock Bands Ever & one of the Best Live Shows ever !
Why does this only have 3100 views?? 🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🎸👍
John Sykes truly got that dawg in him
Well said--and damn he sure does! What a badass guitarist AND singer!
God damn i recently discovered blue murder and super underrated
I was in the second row and saw them at the Brook Theater in Bound Brook NJ in 88 or 89. I was a teenager in the 80’s and saw every great band including Rush on Presto, Metallica on And Justice for all. So many shows, but BLUE MURDER WAS INSANE!! I had goosebumps thru the whole show. They did the song Blue Murder and Carmine had glowing green sticks. Tony hopped around barefoot and played a sick bass solo “if I only had a brain” on fretless😂😂.
2 years sooner and these guys would have been huge.
Ridiculous talent!!!!!!!!
I'm a music freak and always prided myself by knowing all the bands. HOW TF DID BLUE MURDER GET PAST MY RADAR??? These guys are phenomenal!! A Fretless Bass for THAT!! And John Sykes is out of this world good!!
Blue Murder first album marketing was a disgrace. Nobody heard these songs in 89!
Awesome guitar player and one hell of a nice guy meet him gothenburg
I love Tony's "Hammer" pants!
And are we just going to not talk about the fact that he's BAREFOOT!!!!!!!!!!!LOL
Simply the very best-----John is a special performer------and Tony and Carmine are magnificent to the max. Thank you boys!
Don't forget the keyboard player. I believe he passed.
It looks like Patrick Moraz from Yes.
You can hear Phil Lynott’s influence on Sykes’ writing
I honestly don't hear any Lynott influence. I like Sykes, but I don't hear Phil anywhere in there. But that's probably because Phil was damn unique (in my opinion).
Great group wish they lasted longer
The album David Coverdale wish he made
That Vibrato is just so damn good . Him and lynch had that wide vibrato . Sounds so good
This band was incredibly underrated and they deserved so much success.
He’s adopted a lot from David & Phil & has really grown into his own , shine on in every way even after the fact , so talented , still on e of my favorite guitarist’s & now well rounded artist !!!
John most beloved Musicians was Blackmore and Moore❤❤❤
3 total Beasts on their instruments, the entire first Blue Murder album is Fire!!!!
This is brilliant! Just amazing group I wish had done so much more!
Killer, Thanks for posting full version, I have only seen it split up on here
I don’t know why John would ever need convincing to be a lead vocalist!?
Very excellent voice & Tony, Carmine provide great backing vocals as well!
Sykes said once that he just couldn't party as much because he had to save his voice... He preferred to just play guitar and backup vocals.
You both just funny check Sykes replacing Philo his best friend ❤❤
liking johns voice is pretty much an aquired taste. he knows how to sound good and hits all the notes but always feels unnatural/forced imo.
OMG what a sound
Fantastic! Thanks for uploading this!
Such a good guitar sound Sykes is an amazing guitarist and singer. This band was all AAA musicians! Tight live performance!
What’s he doing today?!? I saw him with blue murder at a small club he was awesome!!!!
One of the best performances ever by a three piece band!🎼🙏
Amazing players. So close
saw them open for billy squier in 1989 great show
Jeeeezus.... He sounds that good live? Where is John Sykes today?
He was on a podcast with Charlemagne recently, I believe. I need to check after this video.
@@shawnm1472 Don't forget, the guy who is the chairman of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is also named John Sykes. A lot of people see his name in the press and think it's guitarist John Sykes, but unfortunately, he's not our John Sykes 😂 🎸
Wow I knew these guys could play but the vocal harmonies are great too.
Two of their best songs.
. Dude, thanks so much for sharing this Amazing album!.. Best musicians.. best album ..underated.. this music is better than all the new music on the radio .. Rock on !! My band needs a bass player. anyone know anyone?danny BORDERLINE DELUSION band guitar.
love the choice of the outro harmonies that the rhythm decides to use, the studio version has the higher harmony that Sykes does.... awesome
Words can't describe this level of genius.....
What a performance! Man, this is so great I never tire of it.... to many great things to enumerate... the tightness, precision, virtuosity, the 3-way vocal harmonies, simple instrumentation (OK, 'xcept the hidden keyboardist LOL) and then the stop/start schtick at the end. Brilliant! Genius!
本当のホワイトスネイクはジョンサイクスだしパープル3期はグレンヒューズなのよ。
even with the thick layer of 80''s cheeze this is good stuff.... these young men can certainly play.
Thanks for preparing and posting this. I couldn't possibly add anything new to the previous comments!
Sikes is a badass.
Thanks for posting this.
Playing a fret less bass and tuning on the fly. Wow
Why oh why did MTV die???? My husband’s introducing me to freaking awesome bands like this and I’ll never hear them on ANY radio!?
Tony Franklin Baby!!!
Veryyyy crazyyyyy
This is beautiful. Love Jon Sykes so much.
Also the most beautiful man I have ever seen!
Amazing band. If Weird Al personally picked them, then he sure has good taste.
Group band bagus dengan materi dan skill keren yg tidak beruntung.
They should have been the Zeppelin of their time.
THEY killed it
Lets get crazy!...oohweee....bring it on...
Definitely a great band and a great guitarist! Looks like he's playing a Les Paul but not sure but it's funny when you look at the drum kits from the late '80s my how they have progressed since then! Great band would love to hear them now!
they look much cooler then modern kits
THIS SONG RULES
SIR GIGA-RIFF SYKES YEEEAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH
Horribly mismanaged band. This album kicked ass. And these guys could've gonr on and done some absolutely INCREDIBLE things.
Talented cats came together and made magic. Still pissed about how this band was treated. Sikes was STILL ON FIRE from the Whitesnake sessions. Such an unheralded musician, singer and song writer.
GREAT….. everything 🔥🔥
John looks like Robin Crosby here!
That bass player is like- THE BEST IN DIE WELT!!!!! 😊
この3ショットはありがたい
そのうえ司会はアル・ヤンコビック?
IS THAT PATRICK MORAZ ON KEYBOARDS?
John really had a good, unique voice....ashamed he just left the seen to never return
John you can jelly roll me anytime... anywhere... 💋❤️🌹
The best ever!!!!
Epic !!!
Anyone notice the keyboard player off in the shadows? lol. Who was it?
Nik Green
Isn’t that the Guitarist from Whitesnake?
Yes but only the 1987 album.
@@RiffMusic1970 - Of course! :)
@@RiffMusic1970
John Sykes also played on the American mix of Whitesnake's SLIDE IT IN album, and he played on their 1984 concert tour.
@@Daniel-415-Ponce ah. I thought that was Adrian Vandenburg all this time.
I always assumed this was 100% live. The guitar and vocals are clearly live…..but this drums fill ain’t!! 1:53 😂
Rock On Tony.
HEY JOHN… REUNION PLEASE!!!!
*Green Homicide*
Ending just kills me.....I wish my mom & sisters were not so jealous of me,still are & we moved out of Los Angeles California not in Canoga Park or West Hills,Top 🔝 on Coast now .
