I saw John twice. Once with Thin Lizzy and once with Blue Murder. After the show with Blue Murder everyone left pretty quickly but I hung around and was able to catch a roadie on stage so I asked him if it would be possible to talk to John for a minute. He went back stage and got him and we wound up having a 20 minute conversation. It was awesome. We talked about his time with Lizzy and the Blue Murder album . I told him that he really out did himself on Out of Love! He thanked me , I asked for his autograph he said sure so he picked up one of Mark's bass string wrappers and signed it for me. He didn't know me from Adam's house cat but he took the time to do that. The autograph is special but the 1 on 1 conversation was better. I'll never forget that! He talked to me like we had known each other for years. In my opinion This song is one of the best that he ever wrote!! The intro is as smooth as glass! The emotion is extremely intense and the lyrics are excellent! It's one of my favorite leads of all time. So smooth so emotional. R.I.P John

Well, I guess we all know why DC could not handle the "Competition" in WS....No matter what he says.... Listening to John, Phil and Thunder in the NIght now... I am so happy for his body of work but Having him and Gary Moore (RIP) as well with the US Dude "Scott"..."Lizzy" was the proving ground for guitarists for sure because with Phil, you had an amazing songwriter /lyricist and very, very, very underated Bassist.... with a pick... RIP John, I wish you came out more but I understand..The biz sucks.... Some would rather step away and I completely respect that !! Bad ASS Player, Tone, everything.... Broke the mold Mate !! Rest peacefully....

I saw John Sykes him three times (1998, 1999 and 2003), but only with Thin Lizzy. I talked to him twice, shook his hand and got his autograph (1998 and 2003). I got a good impression from him. He did thank me for the nice words I said about him. Never meet your Idols say some people, but I'm glad I did. 😊 That was a great experience that I'll never forget. 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸

    • @phillynott2459

Sykes suffered a couple years of depression after he was fired from Whitesnake and then that first Blue Murder album didn't sell millions (like it should have) in America.
I honestly think John Sykes hasn't released his "new" solo album because nobody buys Rock albums anymore..
Why put years of your life into recording a great record, only to have it illegally downloaded, put up on TH-cam so everyone can listen for free, only sell a few thousand copies...if that ?!?!
The music industry is total garbage now. Rap, pop, country albums still sell , but rock albums don't because they don't get marketed correctly by the remaining music labels.
It's easier and safer for these record companies to hype some solo artist and pass it off as the next big thing

@George Lynch Dixon to me, the Blue Murder debut album is the real follow up to 1987, with even some better songs and singer, just a personal taste of course.

Usually not a big fan of the big hair era 1980's. But....there is no denying the intensity of this band! You'd hate to have to follow this act. Carmine was in another band, with this intensity back in 1970/1973 called CACTUS! There live shows were incredible. So much so in 1970 they were fired from 2 opening for 2 bands.....JIMI HENDRIX, and LED ZEPPELIN! They destroyed the stage. CACTUS was a 3 piece band with a singer. Hendrix remarked to his trio, how in the hell can a 3 piece band with a singer, sound that big? The few shows they opened for Jimi, had Jimi not liking going out there after they finished!

Why release an album that will only sell 5k copies?
Most people think music is or should be free now 😭🤦🤦
Some joker will put it up on TH-cam and most people (even so called"Fans" ) won't buy it , they will go on TH-cam and listen for free.
It's a sad state of affairs for Rock Music now.
I think Sykes don't want to see all those years and effort spent making the album to be all for nothing. It won't sell well and he will be even further depressed.
He must still be upset about being used by Coverdale ...
Without John Sykes, whitesnake would never have made it big.
Whitesnake was nothing prior to '87, and again nothing after John was fired..
The writing is on the wall, that album was great BECAUSE of John Sykes.
If David Coverdale is the reason why it sold 10m copies then point me to the subsequent 10m selling albums ..
You can't, because it was down to Sykes writing

Saw them a couple months later in Portland OR at the Starry Night (1400 seater, now called the Roseland Theater) sandwiched between King's X and Billy Squire. I bought tix because I wanted to see King's X. Had no idea who Blue Murder was or the relationship to Whitesnake until they played this song. Even then, I remember being confused (are they playing a cover? lol). They rocked, King's X rocked and so did Squire and his band. Fabulous line-up. Incidentally, I love in this video: It starts a bit out of tune, then about 37 seconds in, while singing, Sykes reaches up and fixes the tuning issue in between riffs. Amazing skill and talent. Stuff of legends.
