  • In this video we put a manual Tacoma TRD PRO and a Automatic TRD OFF ROAD 4x4 Double Cab Long Bed side by side and compare the differences between a fully loaded TRD Off Road with the TRD premium and advanced technology packages and a TRD PRO. We also take a look at the infamous TRD PRO FOX Suspension and see if the BILSTEIN TRD LIFT KIT can hold its own up against it. Lastly we compare the differences and similarities between the two trucks and ask you which Tacoma you would choose! Lets get after it!

    Enjoyed going over our mods with both of our trucks again I hope this helps out your viewers if they are on the fence of either purchasing a truck or the mods they want to add to their own truck. I had a 2007 TRD OR Access Cab MT i bought in OCT 2006 $29,000 OTD. Got hit in the rear tail hitch minor body damage but tweaked the chassis. Insurance Co totaled it. There was a recall on that year for chassis which I did not know at the time. I am blessed to have a Manual at this time either a PRO or OR so i guess i would say thats a win. Peace out

      @@westcoasttaco As soon as it came in I had the dealership install the kit so I did not have the chance to compare with the factory ride. What I will say is that it drives great and the suspension is flexible but tight. I can't imagine it driving any better. I did some light off roading and was very impressed with how smooth the ride was. I have to give a mention to Toyota of Brookhaven MS. Because of the length of time it took for my truck to arrive they paid for the lift kit and installed it for free along with my new wheels installed for free! There are still some good dealerships out there. During the Covid times they always sold there vehicles at MSRP and not a penny above. Great content for Taco enthusiasts, WCT.
    Paul is so squared away. I think he's got us spanked on that matte hood protector vs our bugshileds (ya know, the things really don't send many bugs up over the windshield!) - anyway as you pointed out that matte look (will look good on your Black and my MGM) is attractive - adds like a surprising racing stripe look.
    Ahh, so you got 3 total - nice. Same. Girl, boy, girl for me.. and the last girl just graduated college... enjoy"the salad days" they go by in a blink (especially when they start hitting like 5th grade - it starts to fly). Thanks Tim! Yeah, his hood protector looked awesome! The only issue I have with it is that it’s completely attached with 3M sided tape.. so I wonder how well the color fading will do over a period of time.. but I do have to agree with you. The deflector doesn’t exactly decrease a ton of bugs in my opinion, but I think they look pretty good on the truck regardless. Same! I have a Girl, Boy and our last is a girl. Ages, 5,4, & 2.. never a dull moment over here🤣! I’ve heard that after 5th grade it flys before.. I have no doubt that it will go quickly!👍🏼

    Just on price point, I’d choose the Off Road package. I really think that comfort in ride quality in the suspension could differentiate the two. I’m 44, married, and got a teenage daughter, so cool looking Pro badging means nothing to me compared to having a few extra grand in my pocket. Would be nice to know an estimate on the total price with upgrades on both of these great looking trucks.

    • @westcoasttaco
      @westcoasttaco  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      So from what I could find.. a brand new OR with these packages is pretty close to 45k msrp.. that’s without the mods I’ve added.. I paid 42k for mind but bought it used with 20k miles on it.. however it came with the skid plate, pro wheels, and side steps.. so I had an advantage there. The TRD Lift Kit cost me $1450 and the $500.00 for the install. I got my tires for $600.00.. bought them used from a guy barely used them and upgraded to 285’s. I believe Paul paid close to 54k for his Pro? Really it comes down to what someone’s local dealership is charging.. Paul was saying when he was shopping for his pro the pricing would vary based on what the dealership could get people to pay.. hope this helps.

      Ok so the original MSRP when i first was getting my truck TRD Pro only because my chances was better for a MT started at $47K MSRP to current MSRP $49K. Seems to be going up $1000 a year and these paint charge is ridiculous $425 . So out the door with tax because we live CA $54,500 for this PRO out the door. (Factory add-ons Options Tailgate Lock, Door edge guard and mud guard that was extra cost) My initial was for a TRD OR was approx $42,500 with about $46,500 out the door.. Now mind you this was estimates 2-3 years ago to present so prices started going up. So for me a MT was always priority for a TRD OR but that went out the door when my chances for a PRO was better. For the record TRD OR you can really make it yours where as the TRD Pro if you plan on keeping the suspension you are limited. Hope this helps

      Thanks for reaching out. Your post is honestly what got me started on this channel.. if you look back to the early videos I was creating you will see that I too was trying to figure out and understand why some people had the TRD Lift Kit on their DCLB but others were getting denied by their dealerships..After doing research here is the conclusion I came to find.. essentially when Toyota makes a product they have to do safety testings etc on the mechanical item they want to add to the truck for their customers. Legal stuff for liability purposes etc.. since the dcsb is the most common configuration for Toyota Tacoma they decided not to spend all of the extra time and money to make the less common trucks “compatible” with this kit. Essentially the TRD Lift Kit is a Bilstein 5100 suspension kit.. and those go on DCLB’s all of the time without any issues. What I did since dealerships were denying me as well, was bought to the TRD Lift Kit from a Toyota dealership on eBay.. and then took my truck to a reputable off road shop and they installed the suspension without any issues.. I installed the grille in my garage and the rest is history.. no issues and the truck drives great. Feel free to reach out with any other questions. 👍🏼🤙🏼

    Question if I may…
    I just put a deposit down on a 2023 TRD Pro. Can someone tell me if the 2023 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro comes with the suspension lift (2” in the front, 1” in the rear”) stock, or does that have to be added on by Toyota at the dealership prior to the sale for it to be covered under the warranty? My dealership is telling me that it’s already installed from the factory, but where the Toyota online build configuration indicates that it needs to be added on as an accessory.
    Thanks in advance.

      Congrats on securing one of the most likely last 3rd Gen Pros! I assume you saw the 4 cylinder option heading down the pipe and decided to pull the trigger on the V6 before they are gone?
      The Pro comes with the TRD Pro Fox Suspension. It' pretty close to a 2" front and 1" lift rear in the back. I installed the TRD Lift Kit on my Off Road and it lifts it to the 2" front and 1" rear. That is an OEM option you can purchase from Toyota to have it installed on a Tacoma that is not the Pro. My tires are about 1" taller and that's why it sits taller than the Pro on this video.. the suspension coming with your Pro will be better than the TRD Lift Kit.. You are all set and good to go with the way it will come to you from the factory. Let me know when you get it and if you have any questions that I can help with. Congrats! wscsttaco@gmail.com

    The “manual” shifter in the auto is fake! Unlike most cars where it will force it to shift to the gear you want, the Tacoma doesn’t do that! You can shift to 6 but if it wants to be in 4th it will. The shifter basically keeps the transmission from shifting to higher gears but it doesn’t force shifts.
