Mr. Dan, I cannot thank you enough on your demonstrating the remove/replacement of a Moen Single Handle Lever Showerhead Faucet by replacing the Moen 1225 replacement cartridge. After calling almost a dozen plumbers today with an emergency (the shower head was on full and would not shut off), and getting no help whatsoever, I turned to looking up online 'how-to videos', and there you were. I followed your instructions to the letter. Success! All I can do is say "Thank you! Without you, my family would not have had water tonight and we'd be sleeping elsewhere." Now, I have to insert valving throughout in order to isolate leaks when they occur (there is only one shut off valve for the entire house!). Thank you again Sir! Fantastic plumbing lesson!

I am a woman that lives in an area that plumbers take there own sweet time to help so youtube has been a life saver for me! Thanks to you and Ace Hardware I have now replaced my moen cartridge and saved a lot of money!!! Could have saved more if I would have contacted moen...I understand they send you free replacement cartridges..mine cost $44+.

Was taking apart the Moen valve in my shower. I couldn't figure out how to disassemble any further after I got the handle off until I ran across this video. You pointed out the phillips screw holding the assembly together. Thanks!

In the midst of a pandemic, you definitely don’t want to have water shut off or over pay someone to come in your house! This video was so helpful and right on time! I am thankful for people like you who think to upload DIY videos like this! It took me way longer than 9:10 secs lol but I have a life long skill, and can take a shower/ wash our hands haha! So, Thank You!

Thank you!!! Today I turned on my shower only to find that I couldn't turn it back off! Shut off the water main and then searched for how to fix it. Your video was very well made and easy to follow and understand. I got everything off, and then took the cartridge part to Home Depot, where I had originally bought the faucet, in order to be sure that I got the correct replacement. Nice to be told it was no charge due to Moen's lifetime guarantee. It came with a little package of lubricant so I didn't need the plumbers grease after all. I'm glad I was able to do it myself with your directions and not have to call a plumber. Much appreciated!

Pin replacement and reassembly A+…Your video filled in the blanks of some others. My handle is wonky- off at 12, warm at 4, and cold at 8! But hey for an almost 59 yr old, It’s working! I survived the shower. Just thankful on a Sunday night! Took me 3, hours and a trip to Lowe’s. About $100! I’m pretty proud. Thank you. Will address the wonkiness later!

Hey Danny--thanks so much for your video! Fixing my leaky tub faucet was my first plumbing project I ever did, and thanks to your video, I was able to do it with little difficulty.

  • @marjohnsalhi6476

Thanks for the great video! Yesterday I was letting the water run to fill the tub when something went wrong and turning the handle to the off position would not stop the water flow. I ended up turning off the water supply to the house, removing the handle (with the help of this video), getting a replacement cartridge from Home Depot ( which was surprisingly free when I told them it was Moen bc of lifetime warranty). I replaced the cartridge and reassembled everything else which solved my problem! ! I’m def not a plumber and have little to no experience doing this type of stuff so this video was a lifesaver for me! Thank you again :)

GREAT JOB!!! you saved me hundreds of dollars. just did this myself today following your instructions step-by-step. took me about 1 1/2 hours all in (shutting off water, running to Home Depot to get part, etc). cannot THANK YOU enough!
one thing to add - - some of the other videos talk about getting a puller for the valve system (you don't)... if that valve is stuck, as it was with mine, get some needle nose in there and "turn" the ends of the sleeve. it loosened it enough to pop out.

Heyyyy Danny, thank you. I was in the middle of this same job on the tub, saw your video and found out just what to expect. My valve was at least 25yrs old. Didn't work as good as yours, you know the nightmare. Stem broke away and left the sealing mechanism stuck inside. I used this extraction tool with a clever 2nd function, a spring loaded nipple and a compression fitting on a smaller metal tube inserts into the stuck remainder, twist and work the remainder free. THEN I'm at the easy spot you are of greasing and inserting the new valve piece. Yessssssss!
You might want to make a related video of this problem using the extraction tool I described.
Love this Moen valve, smooth, working good after 25 years!
It was a real kick to fix this after fighting with this sticky valve for years.
Too much reward and satisfaction in doing it myself to let somebody else fix it.

The best video for this specific repair. As often happens with me I found the best after the job was done. The mistakes I made could have been avoided.
Leaving the face plate attached was the biggest surprise. I removed it. More than once. The screws that attach it are nearly two inches of fine thread. The best piece of info was the notch on the top front of the stem to indicate up when the new cartridge is installed I guessed the wrong orientation so hot was cold and you know. It did not help either that on my redo I dropped a screw down the drain and somehow the cartridge retaining clip went into the hole in the wall.

Neat to see you do this without the "special" Moen tool - I have the tool because I didn't know at the time but, I think I still may need it since my cartridge is close to 15yrs. old and will probably not come out that easily. Is the 1225B compatible with most of the single lever valves Moen produced for shower/tub applications ???

I just want to thank you for this video, it was a lifesaver yes the valve was hard getting out but without your comments I wouldn't have known. Got it all put together and it works great! Thanks again! I am now a subscriber of yours.

My dad and I just replaced a moen 1222b. Works great except.....the place to put the set screw is now on top, make the handle's off position straight up instead straight down? What did we do wrong? Seems like we put it back together wrong but I can't understand how or why.
