Thanks for this video, motofun. I bought the 'puller' tool, and everything went smoothly between that and following your video. A definite must-watch for first-timers!
You just saved me hundreds of dollars!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!! I went to Lowe’s, got the replacement cartridge and IT WORKS!!!! 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽 I wish I could “like”this video 1000 times!! ❤
For anyone in Canada - Homedepot will give you the Moen cartridge FREE of charge (Its under lifetime warranty)! I just got 2 free ones to replace cartridges on my 2 washrooms. Just bought the puller from Canadian Tire ($15), and with the help of this video I replaced them both.. Thanks for the vid good sir!
Good video. My girlfriend told me I was installing it wrong and she wanted to do it 180° off like you accidentally did. While watching your video she said you look.. he is doing it the right way… I was vindicated when you said you installed it wrong. Thank you for showing the whole process.
I tried using chanle locks like in this video and ended up breaking it off inside. So a 30 minute and $50 repair turned into a four hour and $200 slap in the face. When I should've bought the $15 tool and pulled it out. And I just noticed this guy has the tool but said wanted to see if he could do it without. I'd bet money he used the tool first then made the video. So for anyone watching this I'd recommend buying the $15 tool and the name brand cartridge not after market. Thanks for the video I learned a valuable and expensive lesson today!!
I didn’t use the tool first and then made the video. W have all been where you were (learning as you go). The difference is, I had the tool on hand before doing the repair. You didn’t, but next time, I’m sure you will.
Cool!!! Thanks for teaching me about this!! YOU sir are VERY ENTERTAINING!!!! Great job. It was excellent watching you go from start to finish!! I had our bath tub replaced with a shower enclosure and they did NOT leave me any of the instructions/paperwork for the shower faucet.....YOU saved the day! Daryl
OMG!!! Went to the hardware store purchase the part went home and I did it my self. Less than 1 hour. I am Not a plumber. Thank you so much and happy new year 🤩
Thank you!!! I spent forever completing this job. My old cartridge was stuck due to the rubber on the sides. After I finally got it removed (i had to go buy the moen cartridge removal tool) I couldn’t slide the new one all the way in! The oil they give you inside the packaging is useless and wound up not being sufficient to slide mine in without ripping the rubber again. Swapped the broken one out and bought some faucet grease. Used the removal tool to insert and voila!! For whatever reason my clip wouldn’t fit but during one of my many trips to Home Depot I had bought a three clip replacement pack and one of those fit perfectly. 🎉 If you cant slide your cartridge straight in try changing your angle. I was working from sitting on the side of the tub but when I switched to working directly in front of the faucet that angle was what I needed to make things slide in place.
@@motofun72 saw this cause we are having same issue with hard to turn the lever; couldn't we use a lubricant or petroleum jelly to make the handle turn more easily?
I hear you say but to make sure the drain is closed, and I immediately knew were are kindred spirits! Thanks man! Super helpful video. Super easy to follow. And saved a chunk of money! I appreciate you,
Thank you for showing how to do this! The mistake you made on having the lever in the right position (when shut off) was great! You KNOW we all would've done the same thing and you saved us the extra aggravation lol!!!❤
Thank you for this. Did the job. Little tricky getting that clip down. Needle Nose pliers helped. Had to buy the $16 puller from Depot to get cartridge out. Thanks again!
You are hysterical! Must be a lot of fun to be around! Thank you for this! Really helped to get rid of anxiety so I can do this myself. I called moen and they are sending me a replacement for free. Can't wait to put your teaching to work!
Thanks for this video. My old stem broke inside while removing it (I was using the puller tool) so I had to find another video where a guy screwed up like me, remove the broken stem parts, then come back to this video LOL.
Great video. I am currently working on my daughter's shower at their cottage and this video is a life saver and confidence builder. I love the mistake on the black collar insert. I make those same type of mistakes on almost very project I do, Thanks again.
The shower handles on all three of my showers keep falling off. They are all the same from a a remodel on the house before we purchased the home. My Hubby has purchased a couple of new replacement showerheads that were supposed to be "universal" but didn't work. I personally didn't know that the housing could be replaced since I haven't done any type of plumbing in my life before, but now I will try this out. By the way, I like the holder for your allen wrenches. It reminded me of my Dad, who did plumbing on the side, having one in his pocket for years. I have all sorts of allen wrenches in my home that came in kits when I ordered shelving, etc., but I would much rather have that instead. Makes it easier to keep up with those tools. Thanks for the videoo.
Video came in handy just when I needed it. Damn plumbers wanted to charge me for call, then per hour, on top of buying parts. Least was 200 bucks on marketplace, then 500 on Google search. The main part faulty in my shower faucet was only the cartridge which Moen replaced free of charge based on lifetime warranty. I ended up spending only 19CAD for the cartridge remover tool plus gas money to Home Depot. Thanks for this. Saved me some money.
Those posi temp cartridges are terribe to break in half. Other than your small mistake you did an inspiring job. Glad it went easier for you. Thanks for sharing with us.
Great video! The set screw that holds the handle on was very tight. Turns out it was corroded under the handle so soaked in it some vinegar and applied grease to the screw and inside the handle before reassembling. The old cartridge was tight coming out but I managed to wrestle it out. The tool would have been handy. Hardest part for me was reinstalling the retaining clip when re-assembling. Make sure the new cartridge is pushed in all the way! I had to Scotch Brite twice! Went to my local hardware store for the new cartridge and was told they have a lifetime warranty!!
1. You’re hilarious. 2. You lost me at “turn off the water to the faucet.” 3. Thank you anyway, it was fun to watch your tutorial. Thanks for having clean nails 😂
I went to homedepot Canada and they just gave me the part. Under warranty they said! I love Moen what a great company that stand by their stuff.. I will never buy anything else.
i was just quoted $575 to replace my shower cartridge I'm afraid to find out what else can go wrong and me trying to fix it. you make it look easy.. Thanks
This video was very helpful i was unable to turn my handle it was straight stuck as I did step for step what you did removing and installing a new moen cartridge and I also had to take it back off due to the off position of the faucet handle pointing straight up instead of down and my cold water was coming from a left turn and hot was on a right turn but reposition the knob and its all good now thanks again, also its alot easier to use t handles for getting in the tight spot for the set screw
Thanks man that video help me out well. Here’s what to me, I went to Home Depot to buy the mixer and they told me it was free, so I didn’t have to pay for it. Isn’t that cool?
Jst did mine. Could not get that clip on. I ended up taking that back cover plate off and klip went on super easy.😅😊👍👍👍👍 Next time take that chrome plat off.😁👍👍👍
I don't know of any one man that reads instructions! I'm a woman and my bathroom faucet lever is hard to turn too. I will buy a new cartridge, but I will read the instructions. LOL😇
Should it spin so easily and freely? Should it be tightened? After replacing mine it spins very loosely and even doesn’t stay in place when positioned at certain angles.
how do you get the handle adapter off. Mine seems stuck and I don't want to use brute force to risk breaking anything. Also is the white limiter behind it important? I don't see one behind mine.
How loose should the handle be turning? I replaced my cartridge because it was leaking but now it turns really loose. Everything is tighten down, it’s the valve stem that I noticed was looser than my other showers. From this video it seems as if it’s a good thing. For perspective if i had a heavier handle it feels like it would just turn down and off on its own. Not sure if my replacement cartridge is defective.
If you already have the Moen shower valve installed (which is a $200 valve or so), and want to reuse the same valve for a shower remodel- does changing out that cartridge more or less make the valve like new again?
A stopper? 😂no wonder mine keeps falling off. The apartment we are renting doesn't include a stopper, so the lever keeps falling off, and it is super loud! 😅 Now iI have to find one that fits
My problem is that the allen screw/set screw is strioped. Cant get the handle off to do the job. Its a moen posi temp with 1222 cartridge i need to replace. Think im gonna have to cut the handle off..
I can't pull out the inside of it. I have went through and by all instructions. What do I do? I don't know how to add a pic to my comment, but it's the last part that you pull out....the little medal rod.
What would have been very helpful for us DIY's is to explain how you determined which Moen valve to purchase, since they make about 20 different replacement valves. it would stop us from making 5 trips back to Home 'Depot trying to purchase the correct valve. IMHO....
Thanks for this video, motofun. I bought the 'puller' tool, and everything went smoothly between that and following your video. A definite must-watch for first-timers!
