This is one of the best tips you mentioned: Most great games end up coming back to crowdfunding with expansions or reprints, so wait and if a game is good, it will come back (usually).
CMON may be the except to this rule, but can often find backers selling them later, and if you do back a CMON game, it will sell 100% of the time, often with a bit of a profit.

Great topic. Great presentation. I, sadly, resonate with TOO many of your observations. Buying addiction, ☑️. Free shipping at $100, ☑️. Unplayed shelves of shame, ☑️. And so much more. Keep it up. Very enjoyable.

If there's any problem that messes with me most consistently, it's free shipping at $100. Whoever came up with that sales strategy, kudos.

Bonus advice 1: find people who also like board games and, if you play together regularly - there's no need for all of you to buy every game.
Bonus advice 2: find gameroom near you. It's like library, but with games :)

Just letting you know this is the second video of yours I've watched and you're a really great presenter of information. Keep it up! I had to stop buying when my shelf of shame got bigger than my already opened collection. Went on a bit of a binge there, and I definitely feel the "free shipping minimums" problems.

woww.. tip 5 hit a little too close to home there.. glad it was prologued with a few farts to lighten the mood... that helped ease the sting.
I suffer from "my collection needs all the highly rated, sought after, grail games that are held in such high esteem by fellow board gamers even though deep down I don't actually find that must satisfaction from them and dread setting them up and would rather gouge my eyeballs out with a spoon than teach it to someone" syndrome. I recognize my faults though. This week I made a step in the right direction! I finally let go of A Feast For Odin. It was tough. But I accepted how I truly feel about the game and decided I no longer needed it. Please don't tell me I made a huge mistake though! I'm a little fragile at the moment.

That’s really funny that you mention FfO… I just saw it on sale and it’s been on my “to buy” list forever, and I DIDN’T buy it! I took it off my list, in fact! Hooray for New Year’s clarity

@@boardandsaviorgames did we just become best friends?! I may or may not have turned around and immediately poured the money I got from AFFO into 4 other brand new game purchases... that's a different problem for future me to look after!

TTS is wonderful with regards to trying new Kickstarters before pulling the trigger, and retail releases of course. It's saved me a lot of money. 😄
I was also super lucky to have a friend with a significant collection before I started buying my own. It meant that I already knew I didn't enjoy party games, or trick taking, etc, so I didn't waste space or money on styles of games I wouldn't play.
    Great video! Subscribed!

I love the components for Photosynthesis, but I’ve cooled a bit on the game itself.. I haven’t tried Evergreen by the same designer, but I’ve heard some people suggesting it’s something of a Photosynthesis 2.0!

Maybe I missed it, and maybe it's obvious, but *Keep a "want" list.* These could be want-to-play or want-to-buy. Either way, you can look at the list for a week, or a month, and delete those you cool on (or move games from "buy" to "play"). If you have any doubt, don't buy it. If you are 99% sure you will enjoy it, and get other people to play it, then pull the trigger.

Too many collectors, not enough players. I know people who buy 2-5 games a month year after year. They only play each game once or twice on average. Not the best way to learn all the nuances and subtle strategies games have to offer.

Find a good gaming group and try the games physically as well as digitally before you buy them. There’s nearly always someone with he new hotness who wants to people to play it with.
