    1:38 "the right person with my taste hasn't come through and seen it." To me, that is the key (no pun intended) as to why the long time on the market. She's waiting for this "right person with HER taste" which is probably rare when trying to sell one's property.

    Honestly for what sells in Sothern California now as a nice home, this is a gem. Redoing the blinds and the carpet is no big deal. Yeah the furniture is a little tired but this place is so well kept. Sometimes it is crazy to me what people can’t look past

    • @caterinaramirez8864
      @caterinaramirez8864 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      This show is almost 15 years old, the price of the home has probably doubled if not more by now, so maybe it was over priced for not being updated. I’d rather pay less and then update accordingly to my own taste too, I don’t get why people are so lured by staging!!

    • @hildacollier2638
      @hildacollier2638 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree. After all, the furniture is not staying in the house is it? Do people in Toronto leave their furniture? I don't live in California but all the people I've known want white walls. I certainly wouldn't take up carpet and put more carpet. People want wood or laminate or LVP which looks like wood. Maybe this episode is old because I find the updates outdated.

      My dad did that with his 1967 built tri level. The location was excellent but there had been no updating. But everything worked and was clean. We only repainted most rooms, and took down the 3 layer thick livingroom curtains. You know the ones… that looked like quilt at the top ! They were big in the late 70’s-early 80’s. And my parents already had an open concept kitchen.

      Hello Cayla, I am the Realtor in this episode(was my old married name).
      So this episode was shot around St Patrick's Day week 2007.
      After the reno HGTV did I was able to get more photographs made and I sold it a week after. I had tried with no luck to get the price reduced before the reno. If memory is correct I think it sold for 430K in the end.
      In my 20+ years as a Realtor I never ever had a house sit on the market like this.
      It was very large and for the Sq ft price it was a deal.
      I put it on the market late 2006, we had a horrible winter lots of snow. I did an open house every weekend just about!!!! The realtors called back for a second look in the episode I had met and they had brought clients before the renovation. Even though we could all see the potential without the reno the buyers at that time just wanted turn key.
      People have commented that the house exterior should have been painted, this was impossible as it was aluminum siding with the color in it, and possible to paint but not for the episode- they only have a week and it was freezing outside.
      Anyhow, was a memorable sale for me!!!!! On an up note I became the consultant for the show from then on(this was episode 8), find the comp houses(which I did for this episode), I wrote a bunch of points for Sophie to use on her talks at beginning and through the show.
      In the second season I found the homes that were to be featured and renovated to sell. So I ended up working on about 30 episodes.
      Was a fun gig for me.
      The crew were really great.

      That fence is awful and the colour of the exterior is a put off, but I can't see what was wrong with the original decor and furniture - sure, it was dated, but it won't be there when you move in and you can choose your own paint, etc once it's yours. I also find that the houses on either side of all of the houses that have been on these shows are built too close - a bigger gap would make them feel less crowded in but there isn't a lot which can be done about that.
