  • Hoping to make a quick sale to start her new life in the country, Chris Burt has dropped the price of her four-bedroom, 1970s-style house on bustling Canvey Island. But after four months on the market, she’s still waiting. The home’s location and modern kitchen have lots of appeal…But its animal menagerie and theme park interiors, including a scary scarlet sitting room, vast collection of plush toys, and a graffiti-laden teen lair, are keeping buyers away.
Enter real estate experts John Rennie and Sofie Allsopp. They vow to makeover the home’s interior and drum up potential interest…And while John explores the neighborhood and follows up with the agent, Sofie and her team get busy with decluttering and neutralizing the décor. The results are impressive…But will the house finally sell?

Thank you for such wonderful comments! We sold on the day this program was aired & moved to a lovely thatched cottage in a small Devon village, the same Devon that half of the UK is now so desperate to move to, where house prices are rocketing. There are still hints of red but being in such stunning countryside green is my new red. Keep safe everyone.

Ikr. Most of the ' issues ' I've seen on this show seem to be cosmetic, solved by decluttering and paint.
Pleasantly surprised to see the kitchen and master bedroom. I don't recall seeing those rooms or the bathroom on this show. (Even if they were already in good condition, I'd still like to see them.)

I bought my house with visible damage to the walls. But my Dad was a contractor and I knew what the problem was, how much it cost to fix and have someone to do it at a reasonable price. Seller had a lot of cosmetic problems with the house but none of it was expensive or difficult to fix. I got my house for $285k in an area that houses typically went for $425k because it has already been on the market for 6 months. It took a few days to fix problems that needed to be sorted out immediately and cost $80 total. Then updated each room in the house exactly how I wanted them, one by one over three years. I now have the cheapest property tax rates in my neighbourhood but one of the nicest houses.
People are daft not to fix cosmetic issues with their home but other people are incredibly stupid not buying houses with minor cosmetic issues. It makes it much expensive for them buying houses.

I think some people become blase to the faults in the house an apathetic about it and they don't realise the new trend is real estates more expensive these days and people don't want to have to renovate before they move in they want to buy it done move in and leave they don't want to settle have to paint all the walls and do all the carpet and put a new kitchen bathroom before they even start to moving people are very old fashioned and think more people should see the potential or don't see the rain massive put up with it nothing people can see past it but the blind to their own mess so I think some people

I think they do a good job of cleaning up these houses for the price, but I am always bugged by them leaving carpets or not shampooing them at least. I also have issues with telling people to get rid of their pets... More than 50% of UK homeowners have pets, just warn potential buyers or give the seller 24 hours to board the pet and clean. Even removing the pet isn't going to help allergic people because they're leaving the carpets and furniture in the houses so the dander is already there.

Or they've had people in their lives that bought a fixer upper and then NEVER fixed it. It's been 30 years and they still haven't fixed it. Seeing that massively influenced my decision to buy a move in ready home and then slowly upgrade it. Also this doesn't take into account that people that don't take care of their house still somehow think they should get market value for their home when they sell. I could almost bet they got at least one offer and it was way under asking and they were offended by it. You can't get top dollar for a fixer upper.

I think they should have named the show "I can't sell my house because I have unrealistic expectations and/or a dirty house". It has been my experience that people that don't maintain their homes still think they should get top dollar for a home that needs work. The people featured on this show could very well sell their home to an investor or someone looking for a fixer upper but they aren't going to be able to sell their home for the price they want. Obviously you shouldn't just be mezmorized by a clean home and fresh paint, you need to really look at the integrity of the home, but making the house for sell "vanilla" is the best bet for getting a buyer. Plus, anyone else get the feeling that the people at the "open houses" at the end of the show are just friends and family pretending to be looking to buy the house? I still love watching this show even if it is fake reality with a bunch of common sense advise 🤣

Well this is my mum's old house this was over 10/15 years ago....
All your negative comments before you know the situation of the people.
My mother a single parent with 4 kids trying to keep a roof over our heads. Trying to provide for my brother and sister to go University and working 2/3 jobs to support everything.... She had a son like me who was a little shit. As you see by my room, motor bikes, tags on the wall etc.
My mother tried the best she could, she just wanted to sell and start fresh. Yes lots of work to do. But how can a single person working 2/3 jobs looking after 4 kids ment to tackle all that work???? Think about that why your so negative.
Plus just to let you know the BBC had to come back and redo the house because they made it worse.... How you wonder. Well in camera veiw they only painted 3 walls. They didn't remove furniture they painted around it. They didn't sell the property. It did nothing to help. But remember this was a long time ago. My mother tried her best to give us a home. No matter how it looked. We are not all fortunate to have everything like you people seem to have to disrespect my home

This idea of getting rid of pets while selling is ridiculous. I can see they shouldn’t overpower the house and be in every room, and hair shouldn’t be visible on carpets and furniture. Most of all. It shouldn’t smell like animals. However, I sold one house at a tidy profit with 3 cats and 3 dogs living in it. The dogs were always outside in the back yard when people came to view, and the cats were low key, the litter box away from the living area, and kept clean. I sold another house with one dog and two cats, same deal. Millions of people sell their homes with pets in them every year.

  • @MarisaAndChew
    @MarisaAndChew 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

They should've added some decor to the outside for curb appeal, cleaned that carpet instead of just hiding it and painted the doors properly. Also remove the wall sconces to paint behind them. This was done with zero effort. No reason to not have pets but place them in a location that doesn't make them feel dirty. I have 3 birds and keep them in my room as I spend most of my time here, vacuuming and cleaning up daily is required or it can look gross fast. If that bird wasn't in the cage bored it wouldn't have been trying for attention. JMO

Curb appeal is really lame; that horrid tiny garage slapped on the front, the yard plantings ungroomed and non existent. Why did you not replace the horrible living room printed carpet? It's awful! Are these people totally unwilling to spend a few thousand to spruce up the place? They would more than make up for the cost when selling b/c they'd get a higher price. When we had house showings the three cats were crated and stored inside a car in the garage, and the litter boxes placed outside. Windows were opened for ventilation and all the lights were turned on. Half our stuff was put in storage for the duration.
