I really do believe that Rick is not only immune to the virus but it also helps keep him from dying. We see so many instances where no normal human should walk away where Rick not only walks away but heals rather quickly from it all. Sure, plot armor, but it could act as an in universe explanation as to why he’s so resilient. You could even go as far as saying the hallucinations he had in s3 with the phone was the virus trying to keep him from completely jumping off the deep end and getting himself killed.

Here's my theory: Writers wanted to show us Rick Grimes and Madison Clark are related as siblings. In new promo of ftwd season 8 we see Madison is bitten and crm type guys are doing experiments on her. What if they actually show us the Madison and Rick is related , that would explain why Alicia took lot of time while turning into a walker in her last episode or maybe she didn't turned.

During the whole show the characters say try not to get any walker blood on you, don't get it in your eyes, mouth, nose, etc. Gabriel got just a little bit in his eye and he nearly died. Season 5 finale Rick shoots a walker and the walker's head explodes on ricks face, he roles over and spits some blood out from the walker. He's got to be immune because it didn't effect him
They said that because they were still learning about the virus and how it spreads, covering the skin mouth and eyes is common advice for any unknown virus if you’re unsure how it can be spread, that doesn’t mean he’s immune because he figured out during a few time jumps that it wasn’t as big of a deal to get some blood in your mouth as long as you don’t ingest it and don’t get it into open wounds
I’ve had the theory for years that Rick literally can’t die. That the zombie virus was originally intended to be a cure for death, and for some reason it only worked on Rick. There’s him waking up in the hospital when Shane said he had no heartbeat, and then later in the series we see him take what should be fatal injuries, he passes out, and then just gets back up again and never seems to need surgery or rest. I’ve begun to wonder if this could be the case for many characters, though, with “We’re the ones who live” becoming much more literal.

If they go this route, 6 episodes of telling this story that has never been hinted at before is just another thing that the spin off won't be enough time for.
Expanding on the superhuman theory, I believe that somehow the virus works reverse on Rick, basically making him a reverse walker. Maybe he can't die without destroying his brain like a walker. So he has all the strengths of a walker without the negatives of being a walking corpse
The 1st theory makes sense, if you watched carefully The World Beyond season 2 episode 10 post credit scene, you'd know that the virus was originally in France and the doctors tried to make a cure( they're trying to prevent the transformation into a walker by starting other systems of the body like heart and blood system) but failed which created a fast aggressive zombie type
My theory is that it is his mental determination that he can't turn because we have seen people in the franchise games and comics that depending on someone willpower when they get a bite that's how long they last. A good example is Lee Everett he got bit on the wrist and survived an entire day with the bite from morning to midnight almost 24 hours maybe 20 hours in total until he gave up because he completed his mission. And when someone like Bob Adams got bit he only lasted a couple of hours. And in the end they die apart from Rick. As we see in his final episode in S9 he was hallucinating several times about the dead and his friends giving him motivation to keep fighting because realistically no would survive that long with an impalement wound and being chased by walkers for several hours and surviving a point blank explosion after and is still breathing.
If Rick is immune, then isn't there a chance the immunity will have passed to Carl? Or was Carl just unlucky and didn't win the genetic lottery? Because personally, I think RJ being immune could be a really interesting plot.
Rick had Carl BEFORE he was shot and fell into a coma. It wouldn't have affected Carl unless he had him after the fact, which, simply isn't true...This theory also can't apply to Judith because she is not Rick's biological daughter. She's Shane's Plus, Carl is definitely not immune, as showcased in season 8.
Rick died while in the hospital, but reanimated and was there long enough to have evolved as we see walkers do later on. This is why he can take so much damage and keep going.........only way to take him out is take his head. Or at least that is what I always told myself as a youngster when I saw the show originally.
My own theory is the shear will to live is keeping Rick going, certain people can suffer immeasurable pain and stuff that would normally kill them, but their will to keep going and do what’s necessary to survive keeps them alive. Some real life examples, is Kentucky Ballistics (TH-camr), his Serbu 50 cal rifle exploded in his face, torn his jugular and stuff open with shrapnel in his face, and with the help of his father being their and a thumb in his neck to slow the bleeding, and his will to live kept him going till he got to the hospital which the doctors did the rest, and according to Kentucky Ballistics, the doctors claimed that he SHOULD NOT have survived that explosion, especially when that round that exploded had reached well pass 80,000 PSI…
Wow, this is actually a very cool theory! I like to think that Rick actually died in that coma but the virus, or whatever it may be, brought him back to life, but instead of him transforming into a walker, he is just immortal unless shot in the head, just like a walker.

I like your first theory! I think it's possible that the virus is what fixed Rick & brought him out of his coma. It's even possible that maybe this is what the french scientists originally created the virus for. But something went wrong & an unexpected mutation occurred & resulted in the Walker Virus (which eventually went airborne and infected everyone on the planet) But Rick in this theory would be this strange exception where the virus actually made him better rather than sicker or turning into another walker. Hopefully we learn more.
It could be they were for example looking for ways to extend life or like stop people who are fatally wounded from dying but things just went wrong. It would also go along with what the person shooting the french scientist said: "you wanted to make it better but you just made it worse". Although I initially thought that guy was just talking about the virus, and the french team looking for a cure but potentially creating the variants along the way.
Now that I’m really thinking about it. It makes sense. The entire show, he’s been cut, bruised & fucked up. When has he ever got an infection? T dog cut his arm and got an infection 2 seconds later. Every time a character gets hurt they immediately scramble for antibiotics, when has Rick ever need any?

Rick Grimes was a test subject all along. Let me explain Rick is the only one to see helicopters a lot and no one else sees them. They are only around Rick because he’s a test subject for example in season one while he was in the city full of walkers he saw a helicopter and no one else saw it and in other seasons he sees them and that’s why he’s 80 percent a test subject and maybe that’s why he couldn’t leave for a while.
I like the theory from a scientific point of view. I feel like having some people immune could happen with any disease out outbreak. But at this point I feel like they won’t go that route simply because they’d be accused of copying The Last of Us, considering the comics, the source material, never had this (to my knowledge, I haven’t gotten far into the comics yet).
Alicia in "Fear the Walking Dead" may be proof some are immune. She got bit, but lived for months, and may even be still alive? IDK left her on a cliffhanger in the most recent season, so it's possible Rick may be too. Thats how the show will end I think, they use their blood to find a cure.
I'm hoping Alicia appears in the upcoming show with Rich and Michonne. Be good if both Rick, Alicia are immune to the viruse, well immune to it in a way of it turning them. They get very ill from it (we see with Alicia) but we didn't see this with Rick because he was in a coma during this stage of mutation. There are many others like them out in the world, the CRM have been looking for them and collecting for research. Alicia was captured (after she walks away from the beach now well and past her ill stage) This is how Alicia and Rick meet in the new show, would like to see these two side by side. Let's see, probably won't happen but would be cool to see.

For people who don’t know the virus is from a space spore and spores can have different types so I think he got infected with one that helps him fight against the bad one
if I remember correctly there was an episode where rick just punches a walker on the head and I'm pretty sure his fist bled after that to my knowledge it doesn't take much for the walker virus to infect someone just a drop of the blood in someone's bloodstream and it could infect them after I could be wrong but that's how I remember it
I like this theory, but didn’t Rick and everyone else’s blood get tested at the CDC in season 1? It was confirmed that Rick is infected, so I’m not sure how they could write around that now. I do like the idea that the reason he’s resistant is because machines were breathing for him when the outbreak happened, though.
I feel like rick would’ve died in the hospital if he wasn’t immune because he would’ve been vulnerable to the virus but while in the coma, but his body’s immunity kept the virus out while he wasn’t active
@@anush4800 he was on nasal oxygen, not a ventilator. He could still breathe through his mouth, and there wasn’t a seal around his nose. It’s to make sure you’re getting enough oxygen even with depressed breathing

If we recall to Season 1 Episode 6 TS-19, when Jenner was giving a closeup to the infected persons brain when we saw all those lights, when you look close enough, we can see some black spots, similar to how the virus looks when it infects the brain. So it could be from that point, when Jenner knew everyone was infected, or maybe when some of the staff killed themselves, they did it in a way where their bodies could resurrect? Either way, the idea that Rick is immune, could explain why The New World Order wants him to come back? Another thing that bugs me, is how did TNWO get so well prepared and have everything? I'm not really caught up with TWD lore, as well as FTWD, but I think The New World Order are the remnants of the government, and they're trying to either find the key to vanquish the virus, or find a way where when someone gets bit, they don't die from it. Either way, it's something interesting to think about. Personally, I think it'd be cool if there was a series about some random apocalyptic scientist experimenting on the dead, and studying them. It could be a cool idea, but it's just an idea. XD
Timeline doesn't fit, at least for how long Rick had been in the hospital. Remember when Rick takes Shane out to the crossroads to talk with him about Laurie. Shane tells his story and says it started with just a couple weird reports on the news. Then he says 2 weeks later he was in the hospital trying to get rick out and their were soldiers shooting down people. So according to that information, Rick has been in the hospital for at least 2 weeks. Probably longer unless the reports started the day rick went to the hospital.

Coma is basically prolonged state of unconsciousness, and like normal sleep has a reduced muscle, cardiac and respiratory activity and doesn't necessarily damages, nor kills the brain, in order for the virus to take over. The machines are mostly for monitoring, nasal cannula is used for increased airflow and respiratory help, and not to be confused with full fledged ventilator. Rick was in a deep sleep. Why he woke up is a whole different theory. In other words he did not turn, not because he was immune, but because he just wasn't dead enough...
I would love for them to make Rick the cure and that’s why the CRM is so interested in him, but as he escapes with the help of Michonne the CRM somehow find out about RJ’s existence and how me might carry the same dna for the cure so they decide if they can’t track Rick down they’ll just find his son. It would be a great race to get home, and eventually lead into CRM vs Commonwealth.

In the post credit scene for the series finale we see rick is bare foot and stand right next to a walker out in the open like its nothing. He isnt a coward but hes not stupid either, I think its a hint that he is immune and knows about it. It would explain why the CRM want him so bad and explain why he wasnt worried about the walker even in the slightest. Very exciting stuff.
I always thought the best way to end the franchise would be to show children born of two infected parents after the apocalypse were immune. It would actually have made the kids important. Of all the kids that got ganked in TWD, none were born after the outbreak.
Here's the answer: Plot Armor. I mean it's fun to theorize but if we are gonna be honest, of course the main character of a show is going to be shown going through the toughest of times as opposed to the supporting characters. The show needs to build suspense but doesn't want to kill off its leading role in most cases, so yes, he was through a lot and survived because that's how shows work.

CRM has Rick because when he arrived he was labeled as an A, which I believe means a person who is willing to do anything and everything to return him and has the will/skill set to do so. Meaning that Rick has to do odd dangerous jobs to “pay off his debt” to the CRM for keeping him alive before they return him
It makes no sense for Rick to be immune if Carl wasn't they already killed him off for no reason. What would be a better plot is Judith because we have not seen anyone born after the virus started as yet. It would make sense that children born after is immune.
Carl was more resistant to the virus than other probably because when he was younger Rick shared blood with him to keep him alive which didn’t make him immune just resistant

If that's the case, it must only be a temporary thing, or whatever treatment they use requires a constant dosage and thus Rick can't leave because he's dependant on the CRM constantly supplying him with the medicine.

There was a movie called Awake, a Netflix exclusive iirc. This video reminds me of the ending and Rick could have similar reasons to be immune, if he is. Spoiler warning. For TWD, keep in mind that he was not immune in the comics, as Carl finds Rick as a walker after he (Rick) was murdered by the disgruntled son of a villain. In Awake, a solar flare fries everything with electricity, and it affects the electricity in everyone's brains, taking away the ability to sleep, eventually killing lots of people from exhaustion, with the only treatment being an adrenaline shot now and then. Even with anesthesia and all, nobody can sleep. There were a few people immune to it, including the protagonists daughter. Iirc when the catastrophe hit, the protagonist's car fails and they crash into a lake with her daughter briefly dying during the event before being resuscitated, something that was eventually figured out.

They call them everything but zombies The other thing i noticed, in season 1, rick is taking refuge with morgan and his son. When the walkers stormed the house, i recall one at the door trying to bash it in with a rock... I never saw walkers use "tools" again after that

There was an episode in season 6, either 1 or 10, I forget. But Rick cut into a walker with a knife, where that walker-filled bloody knife then cut into Rick's hand. They made sure to show the audience that he's aware of that..he took a second to look at it. That would be just as bad or worse, than getting bit. As you all know, he survived that just fine.
I’m gonna put my mind in the heads of amc. Here’s my theory. A means alpha B means beta. Simple right. What that means is that the group that took him, are gathering up group leaders thinking that an army of people like that is what’s needed for this world. What it will ultimately lead to is power grabs where Rick wants to help save the common folk while also halfway through finding his family. My own thought before finishing the video is that when he went into a coma and the machines blacked out, he had no pulse and no brain activity. The only time he had brain activity was when Shane and co were visiting him. So he technically died however I think the virus when on to do its thing and rather quickly / shortly after he "died" but through the virus activating he regained his pulse and eventually brain activity. The virus acted as a sort of stimuli that forced his body to "wake up". He basically has a mutated virus strain inside his body that makes him immune to the necrotic variant of the virus (bites / infection) but can still die by any other human means. We he was barely alive after the bridge explosion it's clear he was barely clinging onto life. So he would of died within a few short minutes had Jadis not showed up to help him. Sure MAYBE the mutated strain can keep him alive after near-death experiences, but I don't think he gets any special strength. That's all just adrenaline and willpower to stay alive.
Uhm Rick has this immune system call PA, as you can see throughout the first seasons, it has helped him battle against the walker virues, some would call it "Plot Armor"
Yo that heart beat thing would make perfect sense for the show plot plus the fact crp is looking for survivor's/group leaders as a for virus research for a cure it lines up with the story for rick to be the cure

Expanding on the superhuman theory, I believe that somehow the virus works reverse on Rick, basically making him a reverse walker. Maybe he can't die without destroying his brain like a walker. So he has all the strengths of a walker without the negatives of being a walking corpse
The 1st theory makes sense, if you watched carefully The World Beyond season 2 episode 10 post credit scene, you'd know that the virus was originally in France and the doctors tried to make a cure( they're trying to prevent the transformation into a walker by starting other systems of the body like heart and blood system) but failed which created a fast aggressive zombie type
My theory is that it is his mental determination that he can't turn because we have seen people in the franchise games and comics that depending on someone willpower when they get a bite that's how long they last. A good example is Lee Everett he got bit on the wrist and survived an entire day with the bite from morning to midnight almost 24 hours maybe 20 hours in total until he gave up because he completed his mission. And when someone like Bob Adams got bit he only lasted a couple of hours. And in the end they die apart from Rick. As we see in his final episode in S9 he was hallucinating several times about the dead and his friends giving him motivation to keep fighting because realistically no would survive that long with an impalement wound and being chased by walkers for several hours and surviving a point blank explosion after and is still breathing.
If Rick is immune, then isn't there a chance the immunity will have passed to Carl? Or was Carl just unlucky and didn't win the genetic lottery? Because personally, I think RJ being immune could be a really interesting plot.

Rick had Carl BEFORE he was shot and fell into a coma. It wouldn't have affected Carl unless he had him after the fact, which, simply isn't true...This theory also can't apply to Judith because she is not Rick's biological daughter. She's Shane's

Rick died while in the hospital, but reanimated and was there long enough to have evolved as we see walkers do later on. This is why he can take so much damage and keep going.........only way to take him out is take his head.

My own theory is the shear will to live is keeping Rick going, certain people can suffer immeasurable pain and stuff that would normally kill them, but their will to keep going and do what’s necessary to survive keeps them alive. Some real life examples, is Kentucky Ballistics (TH-camr), his Serbu 50 cal rifle exploded in his face, torn his jugular and stuff open with shrapnel in his face, and with the help of his father being their and a thumb in his neck to slow the bleeding, and his will to live kept him going till he got to the hospital which the doctors did the rest, and according to Kentucky Ballistics, the doctors claimed that he SHOULD NOT have survived that explosion, especially when that round that exploded had reached well pass 80,000 PSI…

Wow, this is actually a very cool theory! I like to think that Rick actually died in that coma but the virus, or whatever it may be, brought him back to life, but instead of him transforming into a walker, he is just immortal unless shot in the head, just like a walker.

I like your first theory! I think it's possible that the virus is what fixed Rick & brought him out of his coma. It's even possible that maybe this is what the french scientists originally created the virus for. But something went wrong & an unexpected mutation occurred & resulted in the Walker Virus (which eventually went airborne and infected everyone on the planet) But Rick in this theory would be this strange exception where the virus actually made him better rather than sicker or turning into another walker. Hopefully we learn more.
It could be they were for example looking for ways to extend life or like stop people who are fatally wounded from dying but things just went wrong. It would also go along with what the person shooting the french scientist said: "you wanted to make it better but you just made it worse". Although I initially thought that guy was just talking about the virus, and the french team looking for a cure but potentially creating the variants along the way.

Now that I’m really thinking about it. It makes sense. The entire show, he’s been cut, bruised & fucked up. When has he ever got an infection? T dog cut his arm and got an infection 2 seconds later. Every time a character gets hurt they immediately scramble for antibiotics, when has Rick ever need any?
The only time Rick needed antibiotics was when he was nearly beaten to death by the governor and fell asleep for so long. But yeah I definitely know where you are coming from

In addition, I would also like to add that if someone's in a weakened state, it could make a dormant virus become more active. Or the virus itself could make people weaker and more susceptible to physical injury, and illness.
Rick Grimes was a test subject all along. Let me explain Rick is the only one to see helicopters a lot and no one else sees them. They are only around Rick because he’s a test subject for example in season one while he was in the city full of walkers he saw a helicopter and no one else saw it and in other seasons he sees them and that’s why he’s 80 percent a test subject and maybe that’s why he couldn’t leave for a while.

I like the theory from a scientific point of view. I feel like having some people immune could happen with any disease out outbreak. But at this point I feel like they won’t go that route simply because they’d be accused of copying The Last of Us, considering the comics, the source material, never had this (to my knowledge, I haven’t gotten far into the comics yet).
Alicia in "Fear the Walking Dead" may be proof some are immune. She got bit, but lived for months, and may even be still alive? IDK left her on a cliffhanger in the most recent season, so it's possible Rick may be too. Thats how the show will end I think, they use their blood to find a cure.
I'm hoping Alicia appears in the upcoming show with Rich and Michonne. Be good if both Rick, Alicia are immune to the viruse, well immune to it in a way of it turning them. They get very ill from it (we see with Alicia) but we didn't see this with Rick because he was in a coma during this stage of mutation. There are many others like them out in the world, the CRM have been looking for them and collecting for research. Alicia was captured (after she walks away from the beach now well and past her ill stage) This is how Alicia and Rick meet in the new show, would like to see these two side by side. Let's see, probably won't happen but would be cool to see.

I like this theory, but didn’t Rick and everyone else’s blood get tested at the CDC in season 1? It was confirmed that Rick is infected, so I’m not sure how they could write around that now. I do like the idea that the reason he’s resistant is because machines were breathing for him when the outbreak happened, though.

If we recall to Season 1 Episode 6 TS-19, when Jenner was giving a closeup to the infected persons brain when we saw all those lights, when you look close enough, we can see some black spots, similar to how the virus looks when it infects the brain.
So it could be from that point, when Jenner knew everyone was infected, or maybe when some of the staff killed themselves, they did it in a way where their bodies could resurrect?
Either way, the idea that Rick is immune, could explain why The New World Order wants him to come back? Another thing that bugs me, is how did TNWO get so well prepared and have everything? I'm not really caught up with TWD lore, as well as FTWD, but I think The New World Order are the remnants of the government, and they're trying to either find the key to vanquish the virus, or find a way where when someone gets bit, they don't die from it.
Either way, it's something interesting to think about. Personally, I think it'd be cool if there was a series about some random apocalyptic scientist experimenting on the dead, and studying them. It could be a cool idea, but it's just an idea. XD
Timeline doesn't fit, at least for how long Rick had been in the hospital. Remember when Rick takes Shane out to the crossroads to talk with him about Laurie. Shane tells his story and says it started with just a couple weird reports on the news. Then he says 2 weeks later he was in the hospital trying to get rick out and their were soldiers shooting down people. So according to that information, Rick has been in the hospital for at least 2 weeks. Probably longer unless the reports started the day rick went to the hospital.
I mean it makes sense in season 5 Rick ripped open a walkers neck and a bunch of blood went into his mouth and he survived

Coma is basically prolonged state of unconsciousness, and like normal sleep has a reduced muscle, cardiac and respiratory activity and doesn't necessarily damages, nor kills the brain, in order for the virus to take over. The machines are mostly for monitoring, nasal cannula is used for increased airflow and respiratory help, and not to be confused with full fledged ventilator. Rick was in a deep sleep. Why he woke up is a whole different theory. In other words he did not turn, not because he was immune, but because he just wasn't dead enough...
I would love for them to make Rick the cure and that’s why the CRM is so interested in him, but as he escapes with the help of Michonne the CRM somehow find out about RJ’s existence and how me might carry the same dna for the cure so they decide if they can’t track Rick down they’ll just find his son. It would be a great race to get home, and eventually lead into CRM vs Commonwealth.

In the post credit scene for the series finale we see rick is bare foot and stand right next to a walker out in the open like its nothing.

Here's the answer: Plot Armor. I mean it's fun to theorize but if we are gonna be honest, of course the main character of a show is going to be shown going through the toughest of times as opposed to the supporting characters. The show needs to build suspense but doesn't want to kill off its leading role in most cases, so yes, he was through a lot and survived because that's how shows work.

CRM has Rick because when he arrived he was labeled as an A, which I believe means a person who is willing to do anything and everything to return him and has the will/skill set to do so.

What if Rick got bit after the explosion but the CRM knows how to treat bites and not let them kill you.
If that's the case, it must only be a temporary thing, or whatever treatment they use requires a constant dosage and thus Rick can't leave because he's dependant on the CRM constantly supplying him with the medicine.

There was a movie called Awake, a Netflix exclusive iirc. This video reminds me of the ending and Rick could have similar reasons to be immune, if he is. Spoiler warning.
For TWD, keep in mind that he was not immune in the comics, as Carl finds Rick as a walker after he (Rick) was murdered by the disgruntled son of a villain. In Awake, a solar flare fries everything with electricity, and it affects the electricity in everyone's brains, taking away the ability to sleep, eventually killing lots of people from exhaustion, with the only treatment being an adrenaline shot now and then. Even with anesthesia and all, nobody can sleep. There were a few people immune to it, including the protagonists daughter. Iirc when the catastrophe hit, the protagonist's car fails and they crash into a lake with her daughter briefly dying during the event before being resuscitated, something that was eventually figured out.
It's content like this that I wish we could get the direct reaction of the actors on the show

But Rick cut into a walker with a knife, where that walker-filled bloody knife then cut into Rick's hand. They made sure to show the audience that he's aware of that..he took a second to look at it.

I’m gonna put my mind in the heads of amc. Here’s my theory. A means alpha B means beta. Simple right. What that means is that the group that took him, are gathering up group leaders thinking that an army of people like that is what’s needed for this world. What it will ultimately lead to is power grabs where Rick wants to help save the common folk while also halfway through finding his family. My own thought before finishing the video is that when he went into a coma and the machines blacked out, he had no pulse and no brain activity. The only time he had brain activity was when Shane and co were visiting him. So he technically died however I think the virus when on to do its thing and rather quickly / shortly after he "died" but through the virus activating he regained his pulse and eventually brain activity. The virus acted as a sort of stimuli that forced his body to "wake up". He basically has a mutated virus strain inside his body that makes him immune to the necrotic variant of the virus (bites / infection) but can still die by any other human means. We he was barely alive after the bridge explosion it's clear he was barely clinging onto life. So he would of died within a few short minutes had Jadis not showed up to help him.
Sure MAYBE the mutated strain can keep him alive after near-death experiences, but I don't think he gets any special strength. That's all just adrenaline and willpower to stay alive.
