Ah, the glorious voices of Chris Shenkel and Jim McKay! Brings back wonderful memories of watching golf in that era. Take me back!

Jim McKay really wasn't a great golf commentator, or The Indy 500.

I was a young high school golfer in 1971 from the same Pennsylvania town as Jim simons. The town held its collective breath that whole weekend. Jimmy shot 65 on Saturday to take the lead which blew us all away. Playing with Nicklaus in the final pair was more pressure than imaginable. Still Jimmy acquitted himself very well even though he fell apart the last holes. Jimmy went in to be a good pro and won several tournaments including the Nicklaus Memorial near Columbus Ohio. Rest in peace Jimmy!!

I remember how we were all in awe of Jack back then, as he really was like a great golden bear, and despite not winning a major in '68 and '69, he won his 8th at St. Andrews in 1970, giving him 8 his first 8 years as a professional. As much as I admire Bobby Jones winning 44% of all the majors he ever entered and of course, being from Texas I worshipped Hogan, but Jack's record is beyond belief - 18 wins, 19 runner-ups and 8 third place finishes. Sustained excellence for over 20 years - no one else is even close. Jack is obviously the GOAT.

@@MisterCrookedNose Certainly Tiger is closer than any modern professional but Jack has 45 first, seconds and thirds in majors and Tiger only 26 - Jack almost twice as many - not too close in my book.

Jack’s own words, only a handful of players could beat me. On the other hand , at least one hundred guys were capable of defeating Tiger. In otherwords tiger faced far more stiffer competition

You don't see rough like that anymore, there are talking about making the ball go shorter, hell bring back this rough and furrow bunkers like in Bobby jones day, they'd think twice before trying to hit it 350. In Bobby jones day some rough was so tall they joked about losing their caddy. Several golfers from jone's era could hit it long but had to play within themselves, one of his major wins the par 5 was 625 yards long and slightly up hill, jones was the first golfer to eagle it, he hit driver, big spoon(2 or 3wood) to 15 feet and holed the putt. Jack won the long drive contest in the 1963 pga championship with a 341 yard shot with wooden clubhead. Point is you couldn't take a chance on big drives all the time because of rough.

I just turned 80, and it's so nice to hear bunkers called sand traps and hear the term British Open again - indeed kerryunderwood6735, take me back with you! Funny how Jim McKay was ga-ga over Bobby Nichols winning $60,000 in a tournament the previous year - great stuff.

Thank you for posting this. I do have some questions about the quality though. Does it look better on Roku or Apple TV, for example? I'm not sure how many generations down this is from the broadcast master, but in addition to it maybe not being that, it also suffers from a great deal of compression artifacts. There is precious little detail, and I do know that live location shooting back in those days was fuzzy, but not this fuzzy.
All that said, I appreciate it being available in any form.
