Great collaboration video with Brian. I’ve had the opportunity to chat with him a few times in the last two years. Super knowledgeable and down to earth.
Great chat. You two blokes are my favourites by a long way. You're both level headed and don't go running click bait topics and best of all you both have a great sense of humour. I completely enjoy your individual work, but having a chance to have you both chatting together is an awesome bonus. Thanks to you both and merry Christmas to you and your families, from me and mine here in Australia. Cheers
Very kind of you - thank you! This was my first go at hosting a guest in this format, I enjoyed it (I think Brian did too!) so more to come hopefully! Merry Christmas 🙂
@@stuartburns8657 I'm supporting Tesla, because they make a superior product. Elon also has my support in most, but not all things. I do not confuse the company with one of the founders - I have owned VWs in the past, but I do not support Hitler in any way.
@@stuartburns8657 I want a good EV, with great charging infrastructure and technology, so yes it has to be a Tesla. I support Elon Musk in many, but not all things, and I can separate the product from the man. I had a few VW vehicles in the past and had them for what they were not the founder of the company back in the 1930s. (youtube deleted my comment when I mentioned the H word). And whilst X is not my favourite, at least now under Elon, they do not randomly delete my tweets. etc.
I have deep respect for Brian’s informed opinions on just about anything he comments on, but (ok, there is obviously an exception coming ( because there is a rule about there always being an exception ( though perhaps this could have been the exception to that…))) [continuing with the exception] though I think it likely that the V13 model could in principle be distilled down to be small enough for HW3 to run, it is also possible that the model will not be reducible to a small enough set of nodes, or else will require a higher rate of frame processing than can be attained by HW3, at least not without spending more to build and maintain future releases of that acceptable HW3 version than would be spent making and installing a few million bespoke AI4 or AI5 replacement boards and cameras to upgrade the older cars to run the newer model.
And by the way: I am no expert in NN modeling, but from what little I know about convolutional networks (but one type of NN, which might not even be of primary importance to V13), my gut tells me (it talks all the time, just ask my wife) that optimization of V13 down in size would require what is called an NP (non-polynomial) algorithm, for which a computational practical workaround might be found to get a good enough model reduction to be runnable on HW3, but which would nevertheless consume enormous human (yes, even ai tool augmented human) time. Looking forward to see what happens in the real world, outside of my visceral model of it, over the next year or two.
My current 18 M3p suits my needs just fine, But we will be adding the new Model Y “Juniper” to our household once it’s available next year. We have not decided whether to get the performance version or not. However, living with the 3p for 6 years sure makes it hard to accept a downgrade in performance.
I suggest the trucking industry is much like the shipping industry,a great proportion of it is for transporting oil and gas and may not be needed in the future.
Stop with the nobody wants small pickups Brian. The Maverick outsold the lightning by a wide margin. It would do even better if it was an EV. The EV crowd doesn’t want big trucks and vice versa. Kei trucks are hugely popular. Old tacomas and rangers are waaaaay overpriced compared to their contemporaries of any other body style. The reason the US only buys big pickups is that in 2005 the EPA made an emissions and fuel economy exception for full sized trucks. As a result the big car makers could sell full sized trucks cheaper than smaller ones.
So if you are playing Doom on a digital home pregnancy tester and you beat the boss at the end, do you get a baby? Also, when are the “duke nuke ‘em” and Quake versions coming out for the DHPT?
I keep saying, Elon (and by definition, the entire Tesla team) often speak very literally, whilst keeping certain cards up multiple sleeves. You don't need to literally have a steering wheel and pedals in order to turn a cybercab / robotaxi into a human operated vehicle. All you need is a USB-C port, and a game controller. You can operate acceleration, braking, turning, all sorts of vehicle features, with nothing more than a console game controller. I'm a GTA online player, and it's incredible how easy it is to operate an onscreen vehicle with just a controller - especially when you integrate real-time AI safety assistants within the software for use in the real world - assistance for smooth acceleration and braking, obstacle and collision avoidance, etc - all stuff with which Tesla already has plenty of experience! I wouldn't be surprised if a no pedals, no wheel vehicle emerges that can still be operated by humans using just a USB port and game controller. Tesla have stuck to their word (in a literal sense), but provided increased usability by circumventing the usual methods of control. Typical Elon. Typical Tesla. And cheap as chips (and very easy) to implement.
Ryan Shaw's Tesla channel just pretty much confirmed my game controller speculation - that's how they're getting Cybercabs into tight spaces like the Peterson Museum, it seems!
There’s no new models of vehicles coming. They’re all going to be warmed over 3s and Ys. Cheapened. Stripped. Cybercab isn’t coming until 2026. I hope I’m wrong.

Around 20:30. Musk specifically stated that if HW3 does not work with FSD v13.x, Tesla will replace it with AI4. For free. Can you confirm this?
Never mind, you confirmed 2 minutes later. Lovin' this video!

Great point
Less of those types of vehicles on the road, the better. Add autonomy and the makeup of all traffic is being disrupted.
I agree that the new Model Q is unlikely, but it's strange that Tesla hasn't denied it.
So you’re saying there’s a chance! 😂🤞
@TeslaJigsaw lol, possibly, but I think Tesla is just enjoying the endless speculation and publicity the DB claim generated.
To do the switchover in Q1 China factory makes sense as they shutdown for Chinese New Year anyway
What a time to be alive. 2025 & 2026 look exciting.
