definitely if you get prelim match, GS becomes easier
Hi. Thanks for this upload. When you say 'older graduate,' are you referring to age or year of graduation? Can age be an influencing factor for applicants applying to certain residencies, even if all other variables are well addressed?
primarily YOG>5 is older. Age is not really a factor unless you are 45+ in most cases

No. It is quite hard. Strong US research with USCE will be needed. Typically Home country residency in OBGYN is a plus
hi , can you tell something about med school transcripts as well as mspe , will it affect imgs???
So far mspe is not considered important for non Caribbean imgs.

During residency in home country, is it possible to do observership in the US?
It should be possible to do rotations in US. And now a days tele rotations are also there.

@@theovercomer7032 yes home country residency definitely helps but yoy have to balance it with year of graduation, since it will take you back 3 years.

Hi , I have completed MD radiology residency in my home country and currently working as a consultant. I am planning to apply for an alternative pathway for fellowship program and then ABR. Please throw some light on the alternative pathways. Thanks

Sir how long will it take to complete research in US and in which year of mbbs should I go for it.... as an Aiims student.And can I do USCE and research at same time?does everyone who did USCE get LORs...
Typically you can either do research electives 4 to 8 weeks when still a student or after graduation you can do research full time. Yes USCE is very important and you should focus on that. If you work hard you should be able to get a strong LOR from USCE
Thanks for the video sir so overall it is not possible to match only by scoring high in the usmle steps you should to have some research or observership in the usa for that .minimally how long should you have research or observarship wich will be at acceptable stage thanks.
Typically 3 months of USCE (handson/electives or observerships). Research is good to have not required. one or two publications is good if you are a recent graduate

I'm an old graduate. I have a home country residency in general surgery and just moved to US. What are the chances of matching into general surgery? what other specialties if not general surgery?
Prelim year then advanced is typically the way to do GS. Rotations and research will help. Scores ofcourse are important
If I pass step 1 and and step 2ck but fail in step 2cs should I give the exm again frm step 1 or frm 2cs
You can only take the exam again which you failed. If you passed an exam scores are valid for 7 years
Is it difficult to match specialities like dermatology for imgs??
it is doable but needs a lot of time and commitment. Excellent scores and research are the key

sir my year of graduation was suppose to be 2020 but due to covid pandemic exams were delayed and i took my final year mbbs exams in 2021 so basically i graduated in 2021. so which year will be considered as my year of graduation 2020 or 2021? and secondly if i apply for match in september of 2023 would it be considered late and would it affect my chances?
It will be 2021 and no September 2023 is not that late for you.

I want a residency as a neurosurgeon....it's the first attempt after MBBS and have done 6 months research from John and Hopkins....what's the probability of getting it as I am an IMG(India)
Very hard if you look at the NRMP data. About 30 or so IMGs matched in 2020 in Neurosurgery but high scores, strong research will probably help you develop the network to match. It is doable but the overall spots are less as well
After giving step 2 cs taking a year off to do job in home country, will it hinder my chance to getting match next year? I mean is it okay to do so?
Good scores should make it easier.

hi doctor , i am graduated since 1991 and my aged 55 years and i have gap from 2007 -2022 in my cv and i pass step 1 and 2 is there chance to be match , and what should i do to override this problem
it is hard but doable. focus on USCE and step 3
Sir, is it mandatory to do Electives, what if one doesn't do Electives and does USMLE and Observership will they have less chance of getting match?
Electives can only be done if you have not graduated. Yes they are the most valuable form of USCE. But in the current scenario may be hard to get. Try externship and lastly observership if no electives.

Typically most programs consider more than 3 years yog to be old.

What about an img from Guyana? What is the process and how long does it take?
The entire proceess of exams and application? Proabably 15 to 18 months.

I have done residency in ENT in my home country India and have 2 years of senior residency experience in the same. Is there any chance of getting ENT in US? I have around 7 publications also.
very tough. high scores and solid research even in US top university then perhaps the chances improve, otherwise hard.

@@swativashisth8385 in general hime country residency helps quite a lot in IM and Peds. But ofcourse scores LORs and other factors discussed in this video ate also important.

Thats an IM sub specialty. Many IMGs match without problems for fellowship
What is the probability of getting match in gynecology?
It is very hard unless you have high scores, home country residency, US reserach.
Does our mbbs University exam marks matter if they are just pass marks in mbbs?
Not for community programs
Is it possible to get match, without a US clinical experience?
Possible in Pathology and perhaps in some specialties if you can do tele (and have strong home country experience, with good scores), otherwise very hard without USCE

What is definition of recent graduate??less than 3 years or 5 years?
Most programs consider 2 years or less as recent. Some can consider 3 years or less as recent. However Year of graduation is a soft filter and there is no single policy across programs

Yes. There are several applicants to take usmle after finishing home country residency.

How finishing residency in home country can influence your possibility to match?
While the match rate for visa seeking IMGs is similar, the NRMP data shows the probability of matching being significantly higher for US IMGs than the visa seeking IMGs. The average matched applicant scores are lower and For some specialities, the probability of matching is as much as 20-25% points higher for US-IMGs than non US IMGs for the same scores. Eg. IM data shows matching probability for US IMG with a low 230s almost 80% while the number is less than 60% for non US IMGs with the same score. Does that not make that part of the video very very inaccurate?
Just to clarify, we mentioned the match rate. Yes you are correct that non visa seeking imgs in most specialties have a lower scores filter
And yes, we did several other videos on nrmp data about scores and match probabilty depending on visa status. The intent of visa variable in this video is to acknowledge that it is a factor but in most cases, you can't change it.
Is it easy to match for orthopaedics, I'm currently in my final yr. How shall I go about it?
Ortho is very hard. Very high scores probably US research and electives.

I am an IMG , Indian medical student to be specific....and I am preparing for usmle. Is there any possibility for matching to " Medical Genetics" speciality for PG as I heard positions are very very limited in this branch.
Best is to look at nrmp reports and see the number of spots and img match rate.

Only one ERAS CV can be certified and submitted for the application
Is it easy to match ophthalmology?i m having 4 yr experience as have done residency(fcps) in Pakistan with research.I am now giving usmle so kindly tell for ophthalmolgy match?
It is one of the hardest to match. Scores will be very important plus your research if you can get in US. Your residency will be a very big plus.

Im 33 years old, Im medical oncologist in Mexico, i almost got the title, do you think is easy to get my license in the USA
To practice here you will still need to do the residency and get board certified. To do research and non clinical work you can perhaps try some fellowships but hemeonc fellowships may be tough

as a indian IMG am i required to give TOEFL ? and if yes in what sequence after 3 steps or before 3 steps?
Toefl is not required but helps in electives.

Multiple failures are but match is still possible. Usmle scores are more important.
