As a swimmer, I’d like to say, caps are not just for keeping your hair dry. The purpose of a swim cap is to hold your hair in one place as you swim so that your hair doesn’t drag and make you slower when you swim.
as a competitive swimmer I would just like to note that caps are actually not for keeping your hair dry but to keep your hair out of the way to keep you as streamlined as possible
Thanks so much for this!! As someone who has nearly 1m of hair, it’s been hard to fit it all, so I’m glad to have found your tutorial because it genuinely helped so much!! You have amazing long hair!!
I'm using a swim cap tomorrow for the first time, and my hair's recently been cut to shoulder length, but I still wasn't sure how to get it in correctly. So thank you! But my GOSH, your beautiful hair! I actually gasped!
well, this is the most random place to find you LOL. Also, good job on your channel! I've watched it grow for the last decade and you are killing it! I love how you inspire so many women!
I swam competitively for 5 years and my latex caps always lasted longer than the silicone ones. I have a very large head which seemed to put a lot of tension on the silicone ones, and they would ALWAYS split down the seam after a few weeks. The latex ones took a lot longer to break for me. That's just my two cents. For normal sized heads I'd say you are right but for us pumpkin heads latex or lycra (fabric)is the way to go.
I only discovered your channel today but I am so glad you are out there! I feel like your channel was made for me. I have already learnt so much. And to think that I suffered for years. Thank you for taking the time to share all your tips from one cone head to another!
thank you so much because I just got a swim cap and this helped so much. my hair isn't long, it's thick so I had a problem getting it on before this video!
SwimCulture has an excellent long hair swim cap that has space for long hair and earflaps to cover those little bits in front of the ears. It is silicone, with no seems (that I can see) to split holds the hair very well. I wear it with goggles, and put one strap under my ear and the other over the bun, just to really keep the water out.
I was a swimmer for four years and I always found that my rubber caps lasted A LOT longer than the silicone ones... the silicone ones would ALWAYS split down the seam after about a month... the rubber ones lasted about four times as long. And they stay on a lot better than the silicone ones. And the fabric ones only protect your hair from the sun, not the chlorine.
***** first of all thank you for replying!_! I didn't expect it! Second of all the only reason I wanted to know was because I have a swimming class and if my hiar touches water it goes from flat ironed to afro in seconds. So I looked up this and found your helpful video! Thanks!!
You make it look so easy! I have waist length hair and got a swimcap today and cannot seem to get that on! My hair keeps getting pulled and all messed up and my head hurts with that just halfway on 😭
thanks for the quick answer ! I was born in 77, but I know about old chin-strapped swimcaps. I'm thinking in more modern racing caps ! I usually stay in the beach for 5, 6 hours, most time in the water, swimming or surfing. I was worried to look ridiculous, tacky, old-fashioned wearing a swimcap. Also, I'm thinking I will have to put it at home, and go to the beach wearing it, because will be tricky to put it there. And I'm sure my boyfriend will complain.
When I joined swim for my future high school that I am going to soon, I've been asking a few people on the team if they can help me with my cap so I hop this video is helpful
I noticed that you are a mouth breather, as I used to be too. I learned from my vocal coach that mouth breathing is not only destructive to the voice, but also to your overall health. You should google it. Ever since I quit mouth breathing I have felt much more energetic and I have improved physical stamina. Random, but anyways, very helpful video:)
Hy. How you take care about your hair? I have long hair and I'm looking for a way to maintain it as little as possible and have as little work with it as possible. I have them in a braid and I have them in a manban for a month and I wear a scarf, but after a month they are terribly tangled. I wonder if it is possible to wear them for a long time without regular maintenance.
Thank you so much!!!! This was soo helpful my hair goes to at least my waist and swimming with it down makes it so tangled and the chlorine in the water makes my hair so dry and stiff like cardboard again thank you so much!!!
Thank you for a wonderful video! Helped me this morning with getting this thing on my daughter’s head. She, too, has a head full of curly, thick hair! ❤️

I guess it must take you longer because your hair is longer and thicker than mine. stunning!! btw I use the same swim cap. :)

I was looking for stuff in regards to swimcaps. I use a neato long hair cap called the Arena Smartcap. It. Is. Awesome. Takes about ten seconds to put on, even if leaving my hair loose (booty-length). But I was looking for a better silicone-esque cap to go on top of it too since the neoprene type Smartcap isn't exactly waterproof. Hence how I came across your video, and all your other ones too! Anyhow, Arena came out with a Smart Silicone cap that works the same way, but with the top piece being silicone, of course. I've been debating buying it and thought I might request a review on it, with the assumption that you yourself might like to try a cap that's so super easy to use as well. And to end, fantastic videos! I plan to creep my way into the corsetry stuff in the future, but right now I'm just super loving the *intelligent* information regarding hair! Professionals would say yes - there are even swim caps that have molded pouches for your ears to comfortably sit! I have huge ears so I'd have to fold my lobes up in order for them to fit in my caps. If you're a casual swimmer like me, just fit as much of the ear as is comfortable. :)
However, I used them every single day for three hours at a time, so a silicone one would probably be just fine for a casual swimmer, rather than a competitive swimmer.
Hi nice video I just want to ask I hav long hair I use swmming cap but I dont understand why my hair still wet when I come out can any one tell why dhould I do pls
gurpreet kaur swim caps aren't meant to keep your hair dry. They help keep your hair out of your face, especially in competitions and help streamline you, so there is less drag caused. They aren't made to keep your hair dry.
My hair will still be damp around the edges, but it remains 90% dry as long as I don’t do any diving. But the main purpose is to prevent it from tangling, not to keep the hair bone dry
I wish they had those when my hair was long. When I was in 7th grade, my class took a field trip to the public pool. My parents told me I was not allowed to get in the pool until they brought me a swim cap. I waited for hours. When it was almost time to go, they showed up with a cheap, disposable shower cap, the kind you get from hotels. Needless to day, with calf-length hair, it was useless, and completely embarrassing. :( I think yours looks cute on you.
Yes, a bit around the edges. Apparently all caps do allow some water in, though. However the majority of my bun remains dry, and most importantly I don't have matting and tangles that take 3-4 hours to comb out.
As a swimmer, I’d like to say, caps are not just for keeping your hair dry. The purpose of a swim cap is to hold your hair in one place as you swim so that your hair doesn’t drag and make you slower when you swim.
I also had problems with my long hair getting stuck in my armpits so a swim cap really helps!!

your hair get wet with this or not
It did not work for me .The cap was slipping off from my head
Thank you so much for the advise.
Possible for very long hair
I wish they had those when my hair was long. When I was in 7th grade, my class took a field trip to the public pool. My parents told me I was not allowed to get in the pool until they brought me a swim cap. I waited for hours. When it was almost time to go, they showed up with a cheap, disposable shower cap, the kind you get from hotels. Needless to day, with calf-length hair, it was useless, and completely embarrassing. :( I think yours looks cute on you.
Does hair get wet with the cap?
Yes, a bit around the edges. Apparently all caps do allow some water in, though. However the majority of my bun remains dry, and most importantly I don't have matting and tangles that take 3-4 hours to comb out.
