    Apologies for the video quality only being SD Standard Definition, I recorded in 4K however ran in to issues uploading and it's too late to change it now the video is live. Future videos will be in 4K @ 60FPS. 😀

    The amount of progress you make in between each video is out of this world. While I know nothing about British railways I do enjoy the high quality videos you put on the subject. Thank you, these don't look easy to edit and put together.

    Layout looking great. There is a platform mounted signal at the north end of platform 3 at Eastleigh which is in a similar position to yours just prior to the point that comes in from the yard at the side of the station. Simon.

    Always enjoying watching your videos after finding your channel, makes my weeks away training (EBI 200 Track this week) a bit more bearable. You have a lovely layout progressing there and I look forward to the updates. If I am allowed to give some helpful information, TPWS and AWS are 2 different Train Protection devices and would not be together in the same place. But I really enjoy the spacing of the TPWS grids, makes it all look real.
    Look forward to the next update.

Personally I like the waste land as it is as ots well done and like you said I think sometimes you can have too much track. I also love the TMD revisions as it looks better in my view and you've given me some ideas too. Susannah

    Absolutely some great work has gone on here love it,a further point in relation to renumbering your transrail 37 to 240 I think you mentioned you would need to modify the side grills on the noise ends to the small grills unless you have this in mind anyway just a thought good look and again great work.

    • @GoodfordModelRailway
      @GoodfordModelRailway  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, you’ve caught me out on the 37240, I was hoping a little renumbering and addition of the BR logo and Colas logo would have been enough. I was trying to avoid a respray and from what I can tell, Bachmann have never done a Transrail 37 with the correct grill ends for the 37240?

    Great layout. Well thought out track layout makes for realistic operation. The depot works well too I think and you have avoided the usual error of adding too many short sidings. I would query the platform signal - passengers getting off the train would be obstructed I feel.

    Excellent as always, those platform shelters look wrong in my opinion, I would of had them in silver, as the ones you've painted, have disappeared. Today's railways are all about being. bright & colourful. As for the space above the arches, how about some carriage sidings. I'm loving the layout, vids, keep up the good work.

    Hello from the Netherlands. Great layout! Some thoughts I 'd like to share: the footbridge seems a little too big for the platforms to remain safe. An idea for the green space near the station may be a disused , overgrown track waiting to be removed? Keep on the good work...

  • @marksinthehouse1968

    The rough ground near the station I would leave ,I work at Clapham junction and it looks similar to the overground area by grant road platform 1/2

    The trouble with your tunnel behind the depot is that it looks like a tunnel for the sake of having a tunnel. Imagine the land there was a gentle rolling hill, then the railway came along. They tunnelled through the hill and all was well. Then they decided to build a depot and flattened the land all the way into the hill until going any further could compromise the tunnel. That’s why it doesn’t really make any sense.
    The answer is Richard’s and Everard Junction vid where he has a scenic break ending with a bridge but what he has done is to continue the visible scenery beyond the scenic break and it works very well. It’s a great idea, it may not be what you decide to go with but it’s very effective, cheap and realistic.

    • @GoodfordModelRailway
      @GoodfordModelRailway  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your comment and I couldn’t agree with you more, the tunnel looks odd as it doesn’t follow the natural lie of the land. I think a road bridge of sorts would do the trick however I wanted to avoid road bridges as I think layouts look odd if the trains are moving but other (road) vehicles aren’t moving. It’s often hard to make road bridges blend in well with the backscene. The space available is a bit small/tight but the solution is out there, think I’ll get a load of card board and do some mock ups of possible solutions, maybe another idea for a video….! 👍

    • @eddherring4972
      @eddherring4972 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GoodfordModelRailway A bridge doesn’t necessarily have to be used by road vehicles for example it could carry a farm track, it could be a road under construction, it could be another railway line, it could be a canal, it could be a disused road. Near Chelmsford there are several bridges over the railway which have become disused since the A12 came along and they lead to nothing the approach on the A12 side has literally been removed. I’m not suggesting you model that but there are disused bridges, bridges which carry other modes of transport and bridges under construction. Certainly they fill the brief of not modelling static road vehicles. Also if you model a section of canal don’t feel obliged to have a barge on it, they are generally very few and far between.
      I really cannot recommend Everard Junction highly enough to you. Richard doesn’t necessarily have every answer but he has a great solution to creating a realistic scenic break.

    • @GoodfordModelRailway
      @GoodfordModelRailway  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@eddherring4972 thanks for all the suggestions. I’ve been watching Everard Junction for a couple of years now and it’s a really inspirational channel, Richard does a really good job of telling a story and explaining processes from start to finish. Your first comment got me thinking and almost got me half way out to the railway room to start ripping it up. I’d like the depot to appear to go further on than it does and a secondary depot to be behind it (fed by the “branch line”) so thought the bridge could have supports which run in line with the main line rather than have a solid structure. On top could be a normal road which has a bus stop on it, there would be a bus parked up and this will block the view of where the road meets the backscene and doesn’t continue. The layout was not designed properly from a scenery point of view and there’s too much track in certain places, the existing tunnel is literally as small as it could be and the whole area underneath it is track (point work for the start of the fiddle yard). As I say, you’ve definitely put forward some great ideas and I really appreciate you having taken the time to do so. Cheers!

    Lovely work. It’s really great to see something very different to ‘another rural GWR branch line in the 1930s’ 👍 Your use of different levels is great. I’m contemplating a six track station between tunnels with hidden spiral helixes at each end. Do you know how these can be planned/ set out (to accept steam locos)?
    It is also really great to see how your station has ‘history’.

    • @GoodfordModelRailway
      @GoodfordModelRailway  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve never experienced helixes but from what I can tell they can be a little temperamental with steam locos so personally I’d try and avoid them. It does of course depend on how much space you have and the gradients and length of trains you plan to run. When planning my layouts I’ve used the Anyrail software and would recommend taking a look if you haven’t already.

    • @stephensmith799
      @stephensmith799 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GoodfordModelRailway Thanks for your recommendation. Yes, I will be tight for space. I want to run 10 coach trains into and through this six road station which won’t leave much room for anything else. To save space I thought of omitting all points ie 6 independent and unconnected tail chasing loops and no fiddle yard. I think each track could hold two trains (twelve altogether) which would be all I could afford ever, even with a ‘lump sum’ off my pension!

    love the video and how it’s coming along! i also noticed that the class 37s have the snowploughs and couplers on the same end, how did you do that or did you buy them? if so where did you buy them

    • @GoodfordModelRailway
      @GoodfordModelRailway  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your comment. The snow plough at the detail driving end has the NEM cut off and is glued to the buffer beam, this is so that you can add all detailing without it getting caught when the bogie moves for corners. On the coupling end the plough is cut back and glued to the bogie either side of the NEM pocket. Quite hard to describe but will try and add to a future update for you 👍

    • @GoodfordModelRailway
      @GoodfordModelRailway  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The layout is 100cm deep on the station and depot area and I can just about reach the edge to add the scenery. The track cleaning can be a stretch but isn’t too bad. It’s worth noting that the board was only 60cm deep when the mainline was laid and backscene put on the wall.
