Chevy Silverado Frame Restoration: Fuel Tank Cross-member Replacement

Cutting out rusted fuel tank cross-member and welding in a new one!
As you'll see there wasn't much left of the old cross member and it was beyond time to swap it out. I'm not a welder but since this truck was otherwise slated for the dump I figured I might as well try to learn something new and possibly save a truck in the process. Heard that! I recorded this back on a hot July day that i wish i could go back to. I'm up in Alaska, we just came out of a blizzard so my driveway is buried in snow 😆 here's to warmer days ahead 🍻

Pro tip ... unplug the dryer , build an extension chord .... i went totally trailer court and used a 2-12 wire( 3×2-12 , black,white and ground as one wire.) 3 of those and i could run my old Lincoln at 170 amps 50 feet away. When I fixaframe i always throw a gusset (plate) on the inside of the frame over the weld . Usually 6" -8" long . It was good to see your dog (bear ?) In the short video yesterday

Good tip! I'm thinking about getting a 5k watt generator so that I have a nice little travel setup. This way if I want to take it over to a buddies place or move to a shop I'll have everything I need. But yeah.. lol, my rental house setup was comical at times. Still did well enough. Oh yeah, that was my dog Yetti! 15 years of devoted friendship. She still chases the Frisbee, squirells, and pulled me all over the trail yesterday. She's coming to pow this summer 😊
