  • To celebrate the release of Team Fortress 2, i made a video ive been planning for 10 years, my first true internet addiction, Team fortress for Quake 1.
    A great game, which futured: lag, spam, doorblocking, lpbs, hpbs, telefrags, respawn camping and so much more! :D
    The track is sunshine underground by the chemical brothers, one of the best tracks ever for a killing spree trance or a nice flagsteal ^^.

    Whenever I hear this song, I think of this video and how much I played this map in the late 90s. I'm sure my ping was 500ms or more on dial up but I had the best time. It was my first FPS multiplayer experience as I'm sure it was for a lot of us

    Thanks for bringing back some incredible memories. I played more games of MegaTF than *any* other online game in my lifetime, and a lot of those games were on the biscuit servers. I wish there was still a community for Quake 1 MegaTF, but I still have the memories and for that I'm grateful. Great video!

    The joys of a well placed air strike or a toaster in the water. Played on a pentium 133 with a 33.6 modem. Before voice, before steam and valve. Quakeworld and MPlayer were kings. A young teen in high school 97-98 playing all night every night. This was pure gaming... We did it first.

    Oh the memories. Can't believe it's been 14 years. Playing on my 56k, praying for days when my ping was low enough to be playable, getting pwned by those rich cable/T1 bastards. And man were the classes unbalanced lol. And yet, to this day I haven't found a game I've been quite as addicted to. But alas, those days are gone, never to return.

    @NekoSOM Heck, TF was pre-cable modems. 56k modems weren't even around yet when TF first started. They were invented about when Quake 2 came out. I have fond memories playing regular Quake (pre-QW) multiplayer at the local ISP's TF 2.4 server on regular singleplayer maps. E1M1 was one of my favorite maps to play TF on. That was back when I was playing on a parallel Microcom 28.8 modem. It had better performance than the 33.6 I used afterward and even the 56k modems that followed that. =)

    The same people who made QTF, QWTF, TFC also made TF2 :) (Robin Walker and that other guy). The classes have always been the same that you see in TF2, but they were alot different -- eg Medics had grenades. In TFC, the scouts and pyro were completely worthless classes (medics were better, harder scouts and pyros did no damage.) Amusing to compare that to modern TF2, where pyors and scouts dominate :)

    Well, it's a port of a TFC map, but TF2 doesn't play at all like TF2. In TF2, it's causeful for long, endless stalemates where neither team can accomplish an advantage over the other. It's horrible for balance, and just was not thought out well for TF2. There are still holes in the bridge roof you can be shot through, it's more or less all chokepoints, the 2 entrance ways into Intel can both easily be blocked off by a single Engineer, etc.

  • @iwantagoodnameplease
    @iwantagoodnameplease 15 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    also:
    The pyros were tough in QTF/QWTF, not like TFC. Loads of different maps. Most of the famous TFC/TF2 maps are identical in layout to maps made for quake -- hard to belive, but true. eg well, 2fort, the rock (not in tf2 :(). TFC had the best original maps of the pre-tf2 bunch, imho. Also, rocket jumping/bunny hopping is just how the quake engine worked. That carried over into HL1 by the same 'accident' of movement. You can't BH in HL2 though.

    I would also like to know if there are any active MTF servers still alive. This game was my life back in the day. So many good memories

    it'd run, the problem at the time was Internet, having a dial up of 28.8 you would usually have a ping of 400ms+ which means a 0.4 second delay between pressing a button and having it perform.
