Insane. Not like "wicked sick" insane, more like "clinically challenged" insane. But still extremely cool, it's insane in every sense of the term that you guys can come up with stuff like this, this must've took alot of effort, big props.
I honestly havent been playing magic long enough to follow how quickly you go through this, but you and your friends mastery of these interactions is fascinating to listen to
I think if you wanted to play this at an event and surprise people you'd need to say like "I'm gonna trick you all into playing a different card game, first person to guess the card game wins"
I've read a couple years ago in a math research paper that mtg can be set up to be a Turing machine. The authors did an AMA on reddit at the time. I think they'd be very interested in your work if you want to share it with them. From what I understand, this is somehow a proof that 4 player UNO is contained into 4 player edh. You'd have to implement the "say UNO when only one card in hand" but this should be possible somehow with allowing unsets and gotcha mechanics.
Their turing machine doesn't allow for inputs (or for any player to make any choice ever) while it's running, can only allow one player to win with the other outcome being a draw caused by an infinite loop, and I think it only works with two players, so you'd need to play an entire game of Magic to simulate every turn and somehow use the final board state to represent the game state. Plus, it doesn't really allow for hidden information, so you'd need a third party to run those games and give the uno players the information they're allowed to have every turn. Basically, the machine can only store the game state and evaluate the legality and outcome of moves. There's also no good way to implement the rule about saying uno in this system. I do definitely think the creators of the mtg turing machine or any of its predecessors would appreciate this though.
I put this in the category of Kyle Hill's deck that actually works as a computer. Pretty thought provoking, pretty far out there - and just proves the complexity of Magic compared to other tabletop games.
I also built a similar deck called Codie's auction house with Codie as a commander (because he can Tutor for cards with Profane Tutor) trying to reset and lock down the game. Then, the game is "programmed" to flip a random creature every turn and cast Illicit Auction on it. Everyone then fights with the creatures they get, and the board becomes bigger every turn, so that paying life for the auction becomes more and more risky. Lifelink creatures are very good
This is MtG's equivalent of Yugioh's Flower Cardian, Amazing. Tbh, I'd be initially confused as well if this was suddenly dropped on me. This is definitely one of those concept deck lists where you emulate the thing you're basing deck off of rather than something to seriously play at a table as UNO is so easily accessible at stores.
I'm building this myself right now, and trying to make a few modifications. One notable thing is that I think I found a fix to two core problems of the gamestate: 1. Every time you need to cast Shocks from the Scepter, you need to bounce Rule of Law which is inconvenient and too "game master"-y. I'm gonna fix this by using Ghirapur Aether Grid instead. 2. Every time you need to flicker the Thought Prison, you end up revealing your entire hand to your opponents, which doesn't happen in UNO. I'm gonna fix this by using a Gustha's Scepter to exile my hand face down when I need to do that, and return my hand to my hand right after. To do this I'd need to untap it a lot, so I'm just going to give everyone infinite Sonic Screwdrivers instead of Coalition Relic.
Another thing I noticed is that you can probably cut down on steps by just having a scepter with Planar Incision flicker the Thought Prison, and cut Skilled Animator from the deck entirely. Unless I'm missing something. Maybe having exactly the correct number of creatures out at a time is more relevant than I think, and that's why we're running 1 more than necessary?
I'm glad you mentioned channeling because recently I made a Gandalf, Westward Voyager (the Simic one that cares about 5+ MV spells) deck that uses a ton of channel/cycle creatures. A lot of them are above 5 mana so they trigger Gandalf when hard cast, but we also have a ton of delve and big spells that are reduced by the number of creature cards in your graveyard so we can get multiple Gandalf triggers while paying very little actual mana. Not to mention we're using convoke, undaunted, evoke, emerge, etc., basically every trick in the book to get as many 5+ MV spells as possible on each of our turns. Each individual spell might not be as crazy as some other simic big mana decks (aside from the delve extra turn spell that will never not be wild, especially if gandalf copies it), but it's better at not immediately drawing arch enemy attention, it feels more durable than hail marying singular big dumb casts, and, as one of my opponents put it once, it feels like I always have an answer to everything.
@@thetrinketmage Everyone plays from one deck and during each player's end step they may cast any card as though it had flash and without paying it's mana cost if it shares a color or has the same mana value as the last card to be put in the graveyard, or draws a card. If at any time a player has no cards in hand they win the game
I definitely, didn't understand much of the combo - but big props and kudos! From what I've gathered it's well thought out and fun. Definitely Johnny as hell, and I respect that.
There is one deck that might be the most complicated, the sub game deck. It is a commander deck designed to imitate shahrazad using only legal cards. There is the Turing complete deck but that isn’t commander
this is great. my forever-dream mtg combo is, in the rules abilities need to be game objects (like spells and creatures) because they exist on the stack. and it feels like there most be some combo that manages to get an ability to ETB (which the rules do not explicitly prohbit, the way instants and sorceries explicitly cannot ETB)
I have a couple questions. I probably missed stuff. 8:55 "If any player doesn't have the ability to play something that will trigger thought prision, ... they have to draw a card by atacking with Medomai, and they keep drawing until they play somthing" What prevents the players from playing things that don't trigger the prision, are they supposed to play into it only because it is optimal? What forces them to attack if they don't play anything? How is Medomai's extra turn limitation avoided so that they can take more than two turns?
First two questions: Yeah, I guess the assumption is that they are still trying to win and only make plays that lead them towards winning. Third question: Trinket Mage explained this weirdly. In UNO, if you can't play (or choose not to), you get to draw a card, and then you can play the card you drew if possible, but if not, then you just pass your turn. In this case, you either play, or draw with Medomai and then play, or draw with Medomai and then can't play, so you pass. You only get to 'keep drawing until you play something' in terms of several rounds of the turn order, if that makes sense?
@@lucasriddle3431 I see, that part was explained weirdly indeed. In that case, if I understand properly, if another player doesn't have anything to play, nothing forces them to attack, right? They are free to pass turn without drawing. I'm not dure drawing would always be on their best interest.
@@cerocero2817 Correct. I'm not sure when it would ever be a good idea to not attack, though. Furthermore, this could be remedied with any of the Impetus enchantments or a few other Auras that exist in the game that can goad enchanted creature. That would obligate the player to attack with Medomai, unless they cast a spell (with Angelic Arbiter still preventing them from doing both).
@@lucasriddle3431if you could not draw in uno, you always would. Best case from drawing is that you play it and it's the same as if you didn't draw at all
5:43 SO, wait, if I'm getting this right- You play Nevermore naming whatever then Fractured Identity targeting Nevermore then Fractured Identity, again and again, targeting your opponent's token Nevermores to give you a triplet of commander-denying token Nevermores BUT if your opponents name Fractured Identity when they receive their Nevermores, you instead have to use Deadeye Nav to flicker Venser to get rid of that troublesome Nevermore, and you can proceed with Fracturing the Identities of the other Nevermores. Now, if only one opponent does this, that's fine. But if every opponent names Fractured Identity, with every Nevermore they receive, the combo stops here. You get stuck in an infinite loop of giving your opponents Nevermores, retrieving your own from exile, getting rid of all their troublesome Nevermores, then giving them more. But per the game rules, you, the active player, are obligated to break this loop, i.e., by... um, doing something else. SO (assuming your opponents understand this interaction) this combo doesn't work without at least ONE opponent's consent. ...of course, they could've long since conceded, so, you need their consent anyway... but, I just wanted to point this out I guess. and now I watched the rest of the video. I kind of lament how much action you have to put in to make the game work. It would be cool if we could automate it further. However, 'whenever a player casts a spell, bounce that spell, then bounce Thought Prison', is a tall order to piece together out of magic cards. 'Whenever a player draws a card, kill two of their tokens' might be more doable. Dealing with the extra soldiers created by Medomai damage also is probably doable. Also, I'm not sure you understand this, but YOU are not playing UNO in this case, only acting as a sort of 'game master'. Shared Fate replaces your draws with pseudo-draws from opponents' libraries, and since all your opponents' libraries are empty, you aren't drawing any cards at all. ...Unless I guess you bounce Shared Fate in your upkeep every time your turn comes around, so you can draw normally, then put it back down during your main phase. OK, wait, nevermind, that works, my bad.

Hey, I saw on another video that you are still on JVP storm and have been since 2016. A lot of the lists online are outdated, I was wondering if you had an updated list as after 5 years I finally got the promo for the card as a birthday gift, and as a long time legacy high tide enjoyer, as well as a huge fan of jace and his story I wanted to build the deck. I have a low power superfriends deck where I just play every card that mentions jace and some cool lore moments for him on cards, I have a higher power version with more synergy with the commander and some generic commander staples, but I was wondering if you had a full CEDH list up somewhere
I've had a crazy idea for a while of a deck that plays like a colony sim ( i.e manor lords) where you play farmland, have farmers and the like, or have training grounds for soldiers, alchemy to study science and etc. havent even started to figure it out tho
Weird idea for the wilds, would painters servant work since to set up the combo to begin with you need Venser, Shaper Savant. So every time someone plays a wild you can put painters servant into your hand they say the color of their choice and since you have Vedalkan Orrery you can cast it at instant speed and name the chosen wild color, and while the wild is the top card it will be the chosen color. Additionally if once someone plays the right color from the wild you can blink painters servant and then the game can resume. As if a wild was played. I personally think wild cards should be wastes so when the player plays the wild it is now the waste is now the chosen color without any additional color identity! If someone try’s to play a spell of the wrong color you can just end their turn with the blue card I forgot the name of lol and horse them to draw 2 with Kenrith idk if this would work or not but It just popped into my head lol. P.S a fun rule would be if you don’t call uno and someone else says it first you force them to draw 2 with Kenrith.
Hey, i have a pretty intresting question. Could you build this deck with 4 colors? Kenrith and infinite mana would basically allways win you the game on the spot, so that could be a feelbad so some players. Could you run this with 4c under thrasios and tymna? There are barely any red cards you need for the combo so maybe it could work, and thrasios will work to draw the whole deck like you need!?
This is awesome! Just one thing though, how do you make a copy of Isochron Septer (an artifact) with Copy Enchantment? I don't understand how that's possible, but also I don't think it's necessary anyways with the Tasigur able to loop anything you want.
I have a yidris deck thats mostly donates and beneficial for opponent spells. It offers a choice, would you like the benefit of the spell I have in hand/on the field, or do you want the mystery box! As if I hit them I cascade into something.
I'll be honest, I think it would be easier to program a PC from scratch than to both make this deck and actually manage to pull it off in an actual game of Magic.
Your opponents could just never choose to give you the cards back with Tasigur and cause you to deck yourself, but you'd probably be playing with friends so that'd be shitty, and also you can threaten them with infinite shocks.
You don't have to draw, your library can be empty. You have infinite mana so you are returning your entire graveyard to hand with tasigur they don't really have a choice
The problem with painters servant (the scarecrow you mentioned) is that it also makes the cards your opponents cast the chosen color, so instead of a wildcard changing the color required, it just makes everything the right color. I don't know the other card you mentioned; it might work.
I don't see how the sphinx was needed for the attack to draw a card... Was it for the extra turn? Because you can't attack with them on your extra turn. But in real uno, you draw once. Then your turn is over. So it could have been any monster, right? Why does it have to be the sphinx?
IVE DONE THIS TOO WITH KENRITH i saw the thumbnail and i was like 'no way, right?' BUT YES WAY, WE JUST HAD THE EXACT SAME IDEA ima watch the video now to check for differences but its been a few years so i dont really remember my own setup

Welp. I have a Kenrith Commander Cube where everyone gets Kenny and drafts the 99, with most of the cards saying 'target' for super-politicking. This is giving me a lot to think about with fun shit to change it up.
Here is my current list!

@@thetrinketmage thanks so much! It even looks like it would work pretty well in my current meta
Cool concept. However i dont think ill every jump through all the hoops to acomplish this. Planning on making any other games using mtg?
Not as of now... but maybe if I can figure one out I will make a follow up!
this video makes me wonder if its possible to build Doom out of a commander deck
Can't wait for One With Nothing to get added to the Uno Amalgam
I've had a crazy idea for a while of a deck that plays like a colony sim ( i.e manor lords) where you play farmland, have farmers and the like, or have training grounds for soldiers, alchemy to study science and etc. havent even started to figure it out tho
I have a four player box where any of the two decks interact with each other and confess some creature. Lots of fun.
If it's a paper deck, just write +4, skip, reverse etc. on an inner sleeve. So it's both a magic card and an uno card.
Need a demonstration of this deck
Hey, i have a pretty intresting question. Could you build this deck with 4 colors? Kenrith and infinite mana would basically allways win you the game on the spot, so that could be a feelbad so some players. Could you run this with 4c under thrasios and tymna? There are barely any red cards you need for the combo so maybe it could work, and thrasios will work to draw the whole deck like you need!?
I didn't fully understand everything but this is kinda crazy and hilarious. Good stuff 👍
The second I saw thought prison it finally clicked, but my GOD
This is awesome! Just one thing though, how do you make a copy of Isochron Septer (an artifact) with Copy Enchantment? I don't understand how that's possible, but also I don't think it's necessary anyways with the Tasigur able to loop anything you want.
When you play copy artifact it makes a copy that is also an enchantment in addition to its other types
@@thetrinketmage Oh! Yep that explains it. Thanks!
Bad deck idea: Extus, Oriq Overlord is your commander, but you only cast it as the sorcery side of the card.
At what point in this video do you reestablish your library so you don't lose the game to Wheel of Fortune (7:40)?
Before it resolves discard your hand to the crown of madness then flicker the guy who shuffles in your graveyard
I have a yidris deck thats mostly donates and beneficial for opponent spells. It offers a choice, would you like the benefit of the spell I have in hand/on the field, or do you want the mystery box! As if I hit them I cascade into something.
God this is so insane. I'd love to see something else as well.
You have Uno! It came free with your Magic: The Gathering deck!
So if I'm reading it right, part of it is just gaining so much power and control that you get to enforce the extra rules of uno as you please.
This is a pretty cool idea
I need to see this deck played
🤣🍻 Hectic! What happens if you don't say UNO?
shock four of their tokens and kenrith to draw them 2 cards?
you beat me to the answer!
This was so cool
I MUST try this hahaha
This is so fuckin funny I love this
This is amazing video
maskwood nexus/conspiracy/adaptive adaptation/rukarumel + moonmist + isochron scepter + double faced cards
Another boring good stuff Kenrith deck trying to make infinite mana, boring !
I'll be honest, I think it would be easier to program a PC from scratch than to both make this deck and actually manage to pull it off in an actual game of Magic.
Let's be real. Your pod scooped ages ago.
For Colors? It’s thoughtlace. I think. Or painter’s brush scarecrow or whatever it’s called
The problem with painters servant (the scarecrow you mentioned) is that it also makes the cards your opponents cast the chosen color, so instead of a wildcard changing the color required, it just makes everything the right color. I don't know the other card you mentioned; it might work.
Would my opponents get made if i pulled up a walkthrough on TH-cam for my commander deck's combo......... I bet not.
Question...... can you build this inside of a shahrazad?
Actually programmed another game inside of Magic the Gathering
I don't see how the sphinx was needed for the attack to draw a card...
Was it for the extra turn? Because you can't attack with them on your extra turn.
But in real uno, you draw once. Then your turn is over.
So it could have been any monster, right? Why does it have to be the sphinx?
Depends how you play. Everyone plays uno a little different so for that version yes any creature would do. Long as it can fly
Yup, it pretty fun actually. But in reality, it kind of hard to complete it, since others might counter/remove your uno pieces or infinite mana stuff
IVE DONE THIS TOO
WITH KENRITH
i saw the thumbnail and i was like 'no way, right?'
BUT YES WAY, WE JUST HAD THE EXACT SAME IDEA
ima watch the video now to check for differences but its been a few years so i dont really remember my own setup
