The great thing about the screeching noise at the near end of Be Quiet And Drive is that's actually Chino's voice, he does it alot on the first record, adrenaline.
Stef the guitarist of Deftones during the pandemic has been doing weekly guitar play through videos of their songs. When he did Mx he left and the video went the full thirty plus minutes where he came back to play Damone. It was hilarious.
THAT IS HILARIOUS AND ALSO SOUNDS VERY IN CHARACTER OF STEPHEN. Man, he's such a unique guitarist. What makes him unique is his style of playing. He has a groove that just draws you in. Very humble guy, too.
Also don't expect much songs like headup, this was their last album that had this sound, they moved on from nu-metal with white pony. They still have very heavy songs but it's more like My Own Summer and Be Quiet And Drive. They have a more "romantic" sound, still incredible!
agreed they became more experimental but they still throw us back with their nu metal sound , from their recent release Ohms , radiant city definitely shines that light
@@vladmoriendi - From 7 words, I think Chino does the pig thing in reference to the film deliverance (w/Burt Reynolds) but that is just a feeling I got when we were hanging out in New Or & I asked him about that part... he didn't give me a direct answer but with what the song is about it fits to me imho.
enjoyed this reaction and glad you are on board with the band. a couple of notes: - bandmembers names/instruments: Chino Moreno (Vocals, Vocals + Rhythm Guitar on all releases after this one) Stephen Carpenter (Lead Guitar) Chi Cheng (Bass) Abe Cunningham (Drums) Frank Delgado (Turntables, Effects, Soundscapes + Keyboards - is on tracks 1, 4, 8, 9, 10 on this release, becomes a full time member on next release forward) -track 9 "Headup" features Max Cavalera of Sepultura and later Soulfly on guest vocals and second guitar. This song was written about Max's stepson Dana Wells who died in a car accident the year before and was good friends with the Deftones and introduced the band to his stepfather. Some of the lyrics are words and passages taken from Dana's journal. in terms of live performance of this song, these are 2 of the best th-cam.com/video/jcnn2ZBsYNM/w-d-xo.html on French TV 1997 th-cam.com/video/Rdm1h2wDaBE/w-d-xo.html in Phoneix 1998 - track 10 features drummer Abe Cunningham's then wife Annalyn Cunningham trading off vocals with Chino in the verses. - track 11 is called Damone looking forward to your White Pony review, make sure you start with the track "Feiticeira" as that is the actual first track not "Back To School" as it listed on many streaming services.
This was Definitely their heaviest album and we never really got anything on this level again but I think the change was ultimately for the better as their later albums were really incredible And had an even more unique sound. Headup was an early sign of their later tendency in albums like Saturday night wrist and koi no yokan to play with the quiet loud dynamic and switch from aggressive heavy songs like swerve city and rats!rats!rats! and pretty romantic dreamy songs like cherry waves and rosemary. You definitely gotta make your way around their entire discography, every album they’ve put out has been nothing short of fantastic though some are definitly better than others. Definitly listen to Diamond eyes and white pony as those are some of their best and I also reccomend checking out one of my favorites Saturday Night Wrist. I cant guarantee it will click with you but it’s certainly a wild ride lol
@@RawrxD23 That’s one I often skip. It’s not bad. But I just don’t love it. Rapture, Beware, and Cherry Waves all follow it on the album and I’d much rather hear those.
White Pony 🤘🏻. “Minerva” and a recent song by them I’ll throw out there is “Pompeij” are sick songs by Deftones and have a unique sound too. Chino Moreno is the singer
This album will forever be better than white pony for me. It's more original, more intense and more interesting. Also I hear no nu-metal here - and there's nothing wrong wit that. I also like nu-metal. White Pony's songs are more structured and thus a bit more boring for myself. They have a poppier tone.. No problem there I love pop music. Pop tunes wear out more rapidly though. White Pony is good. It's very good but not as "whole" as Around the fur. I'm an emotional guy and Around the fur is more on par with my way of feeling life. I like life intense and this paints that intensity perfectly into sounds.
One of the best. I cant fault this album. Beats White Pony for me. Loved your Dai the Flu reaction. You were digging it. Did you hear the bong hit between the last 2 tracks? Always used to wake me up when i fell asleep to the album back in the day.
Be quiet and drive is a great song, but NOTHING beats “Head Up.” Fun fact, the other vocalist in this song who screams “soulfly” in the chorus is non other than Sepultura and Soulfly frontman Max Cavalera.
This is great!, loved the reaction, if you want raw aggressiveness you should try their first album, Adrenaline, but if you want to hear something more melodic and deep you should try White Pony ;)
Aha it's like the opposite for me, around the fur reminds me of the sweltering heat and sweat of summer the pools the beach etc. White pony on the other hand, it's like a lonely car ride at night through the city while it's raining
The singers name is Chino. He does a version of Ice Cubes - Wicked, with Korn. Great listen. If you liked "Head Up", listen to their first album Adrenalize. Similar song styles. Chino raps more on that album. I think it's second behind Around the Fur.
Theres not one band in the world that sounds like the deftones our band tried covering some of there songs its literally impossible they copy no one ! They are there own breed !
The acoustic version of "Be Quiet and Drive" was one my exes and our songs. I hope you went back to Adrenaline, this is brilliant. White Pony is almost perfect. And then to infinity and beyond! There is no one like Chino, there is no one like Stephen there was no one like Chi and there's no one like Abe. P.S. Head up has Max Cavalera from Sepultura and SoulFly adding to the death and destruction
Please next time react to Second Life Syndrome from Riverside in memoriam of Poitr Grudziński ( RIP Piotr). You will definitaly love the voice of Mariusz Duda, especially Second Life Syndrome is a breathtaking song.
Have u hear the first album adrenaline of👈 Deftones 🤘🇵🇭🙏🏼🎚️🇺🇸 keep it up brother I had a first and 2album and 3 white pony there are amazing band 🤘🇵🇭🇺🇸🙏🏼
I'm glad your liking this album I wish I had co workers like yours no one listens to good music where I work it's all rap garbage Luke bryan and lady gaga please save me !!!!!!
1:28 be quiet and drive
7:57 lotion (my fav)

They still have tons of heavy songs since ATF, just more mellow vocals
Elite on White Pony goes even harder
agreed they became more experimental but they still throw us back with their nu metal sound , from their recent release Ohms , radiant city definitely shines that light
Elite tho.........
Definitely looking forward to the White Pony review
Hell yeah man my personal fav
adrenline > around the fur > white pony
The "what the f... is going on" moment in "be quiet and drive" was Chino doing his trademark pig squeals underneath.
Influenced by Mike Patton.

Fun fact: The song Headup features Max Cavalera originally from Sepultura. This song is where he got the name for his current band Soulfly

My friends and I used always have Headup on a playlist while we were trying to get 6 stars in GTA IV back in 2011 such fun!

Bro, Head Up is certainly nu-metal through and through.

I love that you give the opportunity to deftones, I subscribe
Listen to adrenaline!!

He was also in nailbomb!
Listen to Adrenaline before White pony!!!
You're so Young...I'm depressed 😒 I'm an old school fan of Deftones. I have the white pony horse on my traverse...aka my "mom" suv.
adrenaline is heavy !!! play that
You gotta listen to 'Teething'! One of fav tracks from Deftones! Around the Fur is my fav album of all time!
First song i heard from them off the crow city of angels soundtrack and was hooked instantly back in '97. Teething is awesome
