Dean, the amount of work gone into this car is unreal. We've all been there and as you say nobody is perfect. Lets see the other projects that can be saved back on the channel 👍
You can't put price on learning from your mistakes, at least this lesson was learnt on a relatively cheap car and not something in the tens of thousands! Keep up the good work Dean
Back in the 1970s and 80s (I don’t remember before that) cars used to rust like that after just a few years. You were very lucky to get 10 years out of a car, and rust bubbles would often appear within three or four years. Really did not expect to see it on a newer car though, even if exposed to seaside salt. Enjoy your videos, though, always impressed with your skills, knowledge and sheer hard work.
I do not want to sound negative but I saw on day 1 that the Cupra was a money pit and when you showed the underneath . how could the whole car not be rotten? great work as usual thou. love this channel. NO MORE MONEY PITS.
Easy to say in hindsight but with the amount of rust found chances were probably pretty high for the front to be as bad. Loved the series anyway, think you made the right choice walking away before you get in deeper
I’ve been watching Deans content since the first Skoda wagon he bought & I had the same car, & I’m seriously impressed with the content, diversity, & success rate of the salvaged cars that have followed. Sometimes you make a mistake & no amount of effort or money will get a satisfactory result. At least you’ve still got lots of good salvageable parts for other cars in the VW/Audi/Skoda/SEAT family & future projects. Please continue with more cars like this, there is very little content that shows viewers everything the way you do. The ups & downs are so relatable for me, & it shows you’re human like the rest of us. Great little series on this anyway & I’ve learnt heaps. Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺!
You’ve done a good job to the car, good bit of work done to it already It’s not that big of a job replacing that part of the chassi I’ve done a lot worse than that, I definitely wouldn’t be scrapping it after all that work done to it, it be worth more when it’s finished rather than scrapping it
Don't be too hard on yourself, the work you do in my opinion is first class and you have very high standards. I too have made that sort of mistake but also l have been very proud of other work l have done. Keep going Dean as your channel is great.
Hi Dean. My heart goes out to you. So much work and apart from knowledge for the future, no reward. Good luck selling what you can. Anyway, onward and upward, what's next for us to enjoy? Get a good nights sleep and put it all in the past. Cheers, Bob
Lesson learned on that one unfortunately, we have all been there you are not alone. Stick to what you do best and stay away from rusty sh!T boxes. I was told years ago buy a clean car with a stuffed engine and not a rotten car with a good engine. Easier to replace the engine than try and rebuild a rusty shell. Keep up the good work Dean. 👍
Tough call to make but it’s the right one. Sell whatever parts you can and move onto the next. With doing restoration work. It's always twice as bad as it looks sometimes much worse. With modern car's of today you have to be careful not to compromise the crumple zones with over welding and use a proper spot welding machine as much as possible be they are made to brake on impact where welding is so much stronger.
You called this one correctly, there is a learning package here for most to benefit from. Rust is the enemy of almost every car on the road. Clearly with hindsight, the rust on the wings was a pointer to trouble, the state of the rear suspension amplified the 'rotten' message. This is one for the great motorway in the sky, or more simply, the scrapyard. If you try to recover the value of the parts that you installed, how buoyant is the market for a one 'man breaker' business?
Remember, it's not how you fall...! Think you got it right, learn and move on. Every opportunity brings some risk. Ce la vie. At least you're trying. Keep up the great work 👍

I bought a Passat TDI from a local car sales here in Glasgow. I took my mechanic guy with me, he said it looked OK, apart from the usual wheel arches, which had been done once already. He did mention that it looked like a builder had used it before, as it was filled with orange sand. Speaking to the guy selling it he said it had had 1 lady owner before me who live in Aberdeen and had used the car to take her dogs to the beach, which was backed up by the log book. Long story short, I had the car for about 4 years before it failed the MOT with subframe rust. It was the same as this car thou, the engine was great, but the body was fucked.

Shows the perils, if it wasnt for you removing that arch liner, there's a chance that level of rust wouldnt be discovered at MOT time. Plenty of MK3 MR2s out there with a gaping hole in the subframe but hidden by a rear plastic liner
If I were you, I’d park it up and see if there’s a decent cheap shell in any auctions then when time permits, swap everything over. Like you say the good bits on it are very good.
No point any of us having a go life is about making mistakes learning and improving from them thats whay makes us human we will all still watch regardless
Maybe you would consider doing some sort of deal with YCR Yokshire Car Restoration, they fixing Mat Armstrong's car wich was a complete disaster. So this car can be saved maybe.. I'm talking theoreticly I don't quite know how this things work.
So at the end the "Mistakes " are not really a bad thing, it teach you a lesson for another project in the future , but i can understand the frustration at the end when you have to put your tools on the floor because on a totally rusted car like this one. Sell maybe for parts and make at least some money off it.Never the less still like this project and looking forward for the next video !
What about finding a blown engine/front end damage cupra, or s3 and putting the engine and all the new parts on and making 1 mint car then scrap/sell the rest?
Hi dean such a pitty for the work you’ve done on it hope you can sell it or maybe even strip it and sell the parts off I know it’s probably wot you dnt want to do but it could be an option to get money back and maybe make on it
It's fair enough. When you shows the rust on the internal wings I agreed its too much. It goes to far. Shame because I love cupras but still hopefully somebody comes forward and knows what to do.

If I were you, I’d park it up and see if there’s a decent cheap shell in any auctions then when time permits, swap everything over. Like you say the good bits on it are very good.
Ah man! At least you tried. Sell it in parts and recoup your money 👍
No point any of us having a go life is about making mistakes learning and improving from them thats whay makes us human we will all still watch regardless
Aww man gutted for you, Great content never the less.
still can use the engine and gearbox and other stuff you bought in a golf or some other vag car with the same engine that was maybe blown up
Maybe you would consider doing some sort of deal with YCR Yokshire Car Restoration, they fixing Mat Armstrong's car wich was a complete disaster. So this car can be saved maybe.. I'm talking theoreticly I don't quite know how this things work.
We live and learn, thanks for the open and honest content.
Yeah it’s more frustration at the work I put into the rear end that the most annoying 😂
Bad luck! You’re a braver man than me!!
All that hard work sorry it turned out bad for you. Hope you get your money back from the vehicle great video
What about finding a blown engine/front end damage cupra, or s3 and putting the engine and all the new parts on and making 1 mint car then scrap/sell the rest?
Looking forward to a tutorial on how to strip a car for parts. What parts are worth the hassle etc.
Gutted for you mate. The same happened to me restoring a ford puma. I spent loads of money and time but the car was too far gone structurally.
Cant roll a turd in glitter dean. Well done for knowing when to stop
Can't win them all mate, was still good content regardless! Fair play for knowing when to pull the handle.
Shed a tear for you there Dean! 😢 Part it out and try to recoup some funds. Great video!
Keep at it Dean see what you're welding guy says price wise
