  • Here is a little review of my KTM 1290 Super Adventure R. These bikes are very impressive motorcycles. They fall in the category of dual sport adventure bikes, sport bike level power with the offroad capablites of a dirt bike. Just about 160 horsepower and 100 foot pounds of torque it is a very fast motorcycle that is very wheelie happy and prone to breaking the tire loose at high speeds

    - Touratech quick mount bags
    - Pro Taper Handlebars
    - Wings slip on exhaust system
    - Rottweiler intake

    Hi, do you know of the R and the S model sound any different? The R model sounds very grunty in videos, whereas the S doesn’t 🤔

    Hey man I have the same bike but a 2020. I agree best bike I've ever owned. I dont think I will ever sell it.
    Glitches: general engine fail (on startup)
    Gas gauge sometimes doesnt read after fill up sometimes
    I've been trying to clutch up my wheelies but the Tc keeps interfering. Scared to turn it off lol
    Agree on comfort. Also I'm over 6' and like the way it fits me.
    I do believe the newer model isnt as tall

    • @akidnamedsage
      @akidnamedsage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hell yeah! if you want to do wheelies on these bikes you need to turn MTC off, otherwise it doesn't really work. Sport mode, MTC off, 2nd gear no clutch is the way to go. These bikes make a ton of power and have a good torque curve so you really don't need to clutch up on them. just be careful and make sure you are always covering the rear brake. balance point wheelies are a combination of throttle control and dragging/modulating the rear brake accordingly, with enough practice you will get it

      @@akidnamedsage honestly dude I'm worried I'm gonna spin out the rear tire on take off and wipe it out. I've been able to wheelie every other bike I've had. But 160hp and knobbies is new. Any problems spinning the back tire doing a power wheelie in second or third?

    • @akidnamedsage
      @akidnamedsage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      From my experience not doing a wheelie, no. I was always really good at wheeling dirt bikes and street bikes so this bike just came natural after a little practice. Like I said, MTC has to be off there is no way around it. If you want to hang them good 2nd gear is where you want to be. Just be careful, the throttle is very twitchy and make sure you are covering the rear brake

    hi, just looked at your review. I own the same and i agree to basically everything, an insane thing to ride. One thing though...: the wobbeling you mention above 100mph. you got TKC80s on, they should not be ridden above 100mph by default. In Germany (where i live) we have to put visible stickers on the bike if the speed index (on winter or offroad tires) do not match the max speed of the bike. So for TKC 80s we have to put a 160km/h (=100mph) sticker on to limit the speed. For the US i am sure it is not needed as you do not have any roads where you legally can ride 100+mph

    Great review, mate.
    I recently tried the 2021 model and agree with you - the 1290 SAS may be one of the most, if not the most exhilarating bike available today.
    Source: I've been a motoring journalist for several years and tested most of the motorcycles released during the past decade.
    Currently looking for a pre-owned model, I'm on the fence between the 2017 et 2021 models.
    Among the changes KTM brought to the latest version, the heat released by the engine may be the deciding factor, since I live in a rather warm area.
    What's your take on this?
    Have you been bothered by the engine heat?

    • @akidnamedsage
      @akidnamedsage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The heat really doesn't bother me all that much, but it might bother other people. The reason why it gets so hot is because of the catalytic converter. A couple of my friends bought full exhaust systems for their bikes that deleted the cat and it made a HUGE difference. If you have a header back exhaust system on these bikes you get the best of both worlds with amazing sound, and much less heat on your legs

    Great video but I would like to address SOME of the cons. 1. Being while yes it is a taller bike, you should be able to get on and off it and maneuver it fine being under 6ft tall, as long as you aren't TOO short. Im 5'10 with the stock suspension set up and I get on and off it fine, I cant completely flat foot both feet, but i can get on the balls of both my feet, even without boots. 2. Ive never experienced nor heard of the headlight being on while the bike is turned off. Maybe yours is defective? 3. Yes the bike definitely gets hot around the leg area, but honestly when you have riding boots on you cant even feel it, even on hotter days. They also do make heatshields for that issue. I do agree with the faulty codes though. They dont always happen, and ive never had an issue with them... they just disappear when you restart the bike. Good review though.

      Sorry for the belated reply. Aside from random MTC failure warning lights that get resolved when you turn the bike off, nothing at all I’m really happy with it. The failure only comes on when you do a rolling burnout from my experience
