I grew up with Gerry, fell in love with Ramin's voice, and JOJ gives me chills. They all have their own way of singing this song, although some are better than others. I can openly say I love all three.
My first phantom was Gerard and I love the feelings he gave to Erik... but then I saw Ramin and it was a revelation!!! He has me spellbounded... I mean come on... who would listen to him singing music of the night and not fell under his spell??!!! Truly the voice of an angel!!!
when ramin sings u can almost feel the pain that phantom went through, he does a phenomenal job at putting emotion into his singing. ramin’s voice is also so mesmerizing & angelic. in my opinion ramin is by far the best phantom. but john owen jones is very good as well:)
@@tracypriest4386 but he sounds like he’s gargling salt water… also have you seen the man in the chinese production(ayanga) and LND ramin both are so HOTTTTTTTTTTT OK TED TALK OVER 😂
@@naomiheng3205 😆 The movie is not a concert! The movie is a more realistic version of the musical! Butler sung with so much passion, a great deal more compared to any of the other phantoms who were more focused on their vibrato....He, in my opinion, was able to show the pain the phantom feels and struggles with.... A lot of people I know also really like his voice so not sure what you are talking about as he sounds good and did a great job.
I discovered Ramin recently ... I just can't get over him. Not only has he made me cry but he has shaken me with his voice and his acting. It has really conquered my heart !!! He has a tenderness that other phanton did not have. Few singers have produced chills with which Ramin produces !! insuperable!!! Ramin forever !!
Eugenia Marques Sameeee ever since I watched the 25th when they made it free recently here on YT! I’ve just been obsessed with Ramin and Sierra 😍😍😍 Absolutely adorable together! 💕💕

Eugenia Marques agreed! Their chemistry is just amazing! I wish to have a friendship like theirs! Indeed, goodluck to them! And goodluck to us, stay safe in this time of crisis as they bless us with their music and voices! ❤️🙏🏻
I had tickets and then came lock down. I discovered Sierra and Ramin very recently, I hope they haven't ruined it for me when I do get to see it. I can't imagine anyone else being as good.
The way Ramin draws out the notes in lyrics like “defenses” and extends that high note while managing to maintain such expression is one of the many reasons I love his version of the song and Phantom. I won’t be so arrogant as to say that he sings everything perfectly, or that he’s the best (although he is for me), but he certainly makes me feel more for the character than any other actor I’ve watched in the role. I feel more compassion and could easily see a young woman being drawn in by that voice and persona, even if though I know he’s done terrible things and is not a good choice for Christine.
Comparing these legends never means one is better or disparage others, they all have their own unique voice and emotion but for me Ramin Karimloo and the way he transfer feeling and how he play with his voice is amazing and extraordinary he sings this song perfectly , every time he sing this song he sinks in the character and you can feel how phantom feels ... GOD bless them for all these good memories
JOJ is the best. His voice and so his singing techniques are so well-dosed so he transfers all the emotions the best. His voice is so soothing and romantic and then so passionate, then all of a sudden so haunting (and yes, I love the colour in his voice most). I wished I could watch him live - I'm so sad, he doesn't perform in Germany :-(
Ramin and Gerard are my favorite. Ramin has an emotional strength to his voice, while Gerard has raw intensity. Both have a great and powerful acting skills. Shivers time and time again...
I have to say Ramin Karimloo! His voice, to me, is perfect! It screams Phantom on so many levels and just the way it seems to blend with the music makes me fall more and more in love with him! Honestly he's the best Phantom, not only when it comes to his voice, but also because of his acting! I Love Ramin Karimloo so much!
I think I'll always prefer Ramin, but I can't deny that JOJ and Gerard Butler sing this song brilliantly. For sure Gerard Butker has less experience than the other two, but he manages to share the passion of this song. JOJ has a beautifu voice, can reach super high notes and makes you shiver, but I didn't found in his interpretation the emotion I was looking for. Finally, Ramin has the voice and the emotion, that's why I prefer him. But they're all amazing as the Phantom, the Phantom seemingly being an extremely hard character to perform as!
Isaure ALW settled the disputes once and for all. He never openly said that he prefers Ramin, but he requested that he played the phantom in the anniversary concert and wrote the LND play with Ramin in mind as the role
Other actors play the role, but Ramin becomes the Phantom... He is unmatched! No one can compare to him, to me he is one and only Phantom. Ramin THE KING! ❤️
All have qualities in their voice. Ramin is Strong and high pitch John is soft, romantic, and Gerard has a rugged which isn't bad at all. To say who the best is depends on how I'm feeling on that day.
I recently fell In love with Ramin but I grew up with Gerard. Although I know all the technical issues as to why Ramin and JOJ are preferred by most, I can’t get over my first love of Gerad. For me he will always be my first and last phantom. Although Ramin certainly shook my resolve and JOJ is undeniably amazing
The first Phantom I was exposed to was the movie version with Gerard, which I thought was great, and certainly was good enough to get my fanatical interest in the POTO going ever since. Since then I've listened and watched Michael Crawford, Ramin's stage performance in the 25th anniversary, John Owen Jones, Colm Wilkinson as much as I could. I have to say that Ramin is by far the best Phantom in my opinion, voice and acting wise. He has the voice that Gerard doesn't, and the acting in his Phantom in my opinion is mesmerizing, if not better than Gerard's. The others, e.g. John Owen Jones, Wilkinson, even Crawford, might have superb theatrically /technically better voices than Ramin's, but Ramin's performance and voice in the role somehow possessed an earnestness, and he was able to deliver a despair and rawness of emotion which the others lacked.
I'll agree on all but Ramin being better than Michael Crawford... Crawford is legitimately the perfect Phantom for me (obviously you have your own opinion) and revolutionised the part (think he originated it musically too) Major reason I think he is the best is because he had currently been playing an on-screen comedic idiot called Frank Spencer and his casting as Phantom in Webber's new big thing shocked people who said "he'll never do that justice" but he did! His Music of the Night and the title song are perfect renditions, Ramin's are far too strong and loud when they should be soft and seductive. (Ramin's is amazing, just he's missing the soft, seductiveness you get from Crawford) Despite me hating Butler's singing, I can't disagree that he got every other part of the Phantom spot on. As an Irishman I also have to talk about Colm Wilkinson who I think was a better Valjean than Phantom but I still loved his performance.
@@TriggaHappy19 I got to see Wilkinson as Valjean and the Phantom and loved both. Michael Crawford is the original and best Phantom. Somewhere I read that Andrew Lloyd Webber liked Butler's rendition very much. I like Gerard's acting as Phantom, he makes one feel so much for that tormented man, his performance is so compelling and captivating, you want to hold and console him.
For me there is no winner as these 3 gentlemen are my favourite Phantoms, so having them in one video is my idea of heaven 🥰 I feel so privileged to say I have both seen and met Ramin and JOJ. Yes, Geread is not as vocally trained as the other two but he makes the role his own, his acting is on point...and you have to admit he looks really good in those costumes 😉 JOJ will always have a special place in my heart though, he always makes me smile and he is so lovely....he has a lot of time for everybody!
Ramin and Gerard are my favorites. They both bring amazing things to the stage. Ramin brings a sense of relaxation into his voice that soothes you as you listen to it whereas with Gerard, the rawness in his keeps you on edge. Both Gerard and Ramin are capable of expressing immense emotion through this role. Both performances are beautiful.
My lord.. Where to start? Guess I'll do Gerard first. I used to love his performance, because he was my first Phantom. But, he just doesn't have the same compelling thing going on that JOJ and Ramin do. I definitely don't hate Gerard, in fact I kinda like his deeper rougher voice, and his very slow and calm way of singing Music of The Night. His version also has some really good memories attached to it for me, so that helps. But he just doesn't make me gape in awe at his voice. Ramin. God, I love his voice. It's powerful and emotional, and is completely different from any other Phantom I've seen.A great interpretation and I love it! John Owen Jones.. Man oh man. I love his voice too! The way he goes from soft to loud and makes it sound so great is astounding. His higher parts are beautiful too, practically breathtaking. The control he has in his voice is amazing. Hey take my opinion with a grain of salt though. I know nothing about opera or anything like that, I'm just Phantom trash.
My God, have I just died and gone to Heaven, anyone expects me to choose????????? Yeah right. Gerry seduced me. Ramin seduced me much further and deeper on a physical and emotional level and made me understand Erik for the first time. John is like a fine wine.
Jo-J's voice is just grrrr. Ramin had the passion in his acting too. But I have to listen to them sing past the point of no return. Emmy takes the female voice and emotion.
Ok Gerard and John both seduced me. It's the tenderness in their lower and softer notes while picking exactly the right words to use their power on. John seduced me the most though, second only to Sir Crawford. I loved the gruff tone in Gerards voice, which is why I think his whispers were so seductive. Ramin was just raw power.. Still seductive but the other boys seduced me harder.. 😂😂😂
JOJ- creative romanticism with gentle tone but with strong empowerment at different high and low notes. He's gentle yet demanding. Ramin-💖I love his voice his commanding basically his everything he's a great phantom with much emotion he demands and understands. He is in fact gentle to like JOJ He is my personal favorite💖 Gerard- He's different but in a good way. I've seen the movie and honestly I'm impressed he left an emotional mark I just respect them all so much!!
JOJ - definitely the more commanding of Phantom. What I mean by that is he can be soft but very firm when he sings. Ramin- he basically is my depiction of what a young Phantom sounds like and he really puts a lot of emotion into his singing. Gerard- I will say that he does a really good job of being a threatening Phantom and while he is not a singer he does do a good job.
Ramin will be my first place, then JOJ, then Gerard Butler, Ramin has always been my favorite phantom for both POTO and LND....I love his emotions putting into Music of the Night.
I'll have to go with Ramin because of how emotional and powerful his amazing voice is, but i also love John's soft and haunting singing. Gerard, on the other hand...
Nice job done here. The audio quality is exceptional for a TH-cam video. Thank you. I do not believe there is any comparing between or among these performers. They each bring a uniqueness to the song with their interpretations. Each listener will invariably appreciate the interpretation(s) which resonates with the listener's sense of what is beautiful. As the cliche goes: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And a thing of beauty is a joy forever.
All of the Phantoms are very unique in their own way, but in my opinion Ramin’s voice is just the perfect combination. Soft, romantic, and tender like JOJ, mixed with the power and slight anger of Gerard Butler. Love them all but Ramin is just 😍 💕
I was first exposed to Gerry and though he's the least classical of the three, I think his deep, rough sound is very appealing and he brought a lot of emotion to the song. JOJ has a somewhat darker, richer timbre which is beautiful but in these recordings he didn't bring as much emotion. Ramin has a lighter, 'pingier' sound and is a perfect mix of beauty and emotion. Any of them could be my phantom!
GB + JOJ 💝💝 RK 💝 Sorry, but GB is magical.... And he is not a professional Singer, he is first an actor.... But I love him.... & JOJ so high notes ... ❤
I can't choose because all their voices are unique and each one of them portray the phantom in a different way. Over all they all sound beautiful and I have to admit I grew up with the 2004 film which introduced me to the Broadway's. I've grown to love them all, but if I had to choose I think it would be Gerard Butler and Ramin.
I grew up loving Gerard Butler as Phantom until I found Ramin Karimloo last week here in youtube! LOL! I bought Royal Albert Hall Performance and OMG! I don’t want to see other Phantom of the Opera without Ramin anymore. LOL! But seriously, love the 3 performers. I just love Ramin more and obsessed with him!
Ramin Karmiloo is amazing but the sentimental part of me screams "Gerry forever!!" Gerard Butler as The Phantom was an amazing (and bold) casting choice! The rough, (operatically) untrained quality of his voice made me fall in love with The Phantom as a kid and made me love musicals in general. There is often too much stress on being note perfect in the world of musicals and almost a fear in singers voices of missing a note so the emotion is compromised. I will always take a performance that is rich emotionally over a note perfect performance! But maybe that's just me!
Callie Walsh I would normally agree, but the Phantom is the kind of character who HAS to be near perfect. If a singer such as JOJ or Ramin (who in an interview stated he had never had a vocal lesson) misses a note or has a voice crack it's different to Butler who has little skill as a singer. Although, with many other characters (and certainly in the medium of film) I would normally agree. But the Phantom is the "angel of music", and his musical talent is an important part of his character, even outside of the musical.
+Callie Walsh Agreed. I'd take emotion over that any day. Gerard does that amazingly. His voice is just so raw and natural and he has immense control over it. Just beautiful. Coupled with his wonderful acting, he breaks our hearts even more; especially the roof top scene after Christine and Raoul sing "All I Ask of You." That part always tears me to pieces the way he does it. His voice has a haunting quality that is shown when he sings the line "I am you angel of music".
+bleachfreak811 Agreed, but Ramin impregnates my ears man. Sierra was a lucky girl, god damn my darkest dreams are filled with Ramin singing this to me over, and over, and over again.
Ramin. I love JOJ, I appreciate Gerard for introducing so many people into the POTO world, but it's Ramin I truly and deeply love. He's so intense, sensetive, emotional and profound. Nobody do it in such exquisite, sharp way he did Music Of The Night in my opinion.
I love both JOJ and Ramin, but Ramin edges out the win for me. I grew up watching Gerard, but after watching the actual Broadway performance, I just wasn't impressed with his anymore. I love him as an actor and singer in general, I just don't like him as the phantom because the phantom is supposed to have an angelic, memorizing, and yet powerful voice, and I think Gerard lacks that. I also know that Ramin and JOJ's performances were live and not auto tuned or anything. Gerard, on the other hand, did a recorded performance with lip syncing that he probably had numerous times to redo if he messed up. I LOVE him as an actor, I just don't think he had the voice for the phantom. Don't get me started on Emmy...
He absolutely didn’t and I just can’t get why people think his growling, groaning Phantom is even passable. Phantom is supposed to be a flawed dude in almost every way, except his singing. Ghostly, inhuman, almost too perfect, softly haunting and regal. None of which Gerard is. They should have dubbed.
My main problem with Gerard Butler is the fact that he probably had numerous takes to try and get that note right along with the numerous times he can sing the song. He will also have his vocals smoothed over to ensure it was film worthy. Like props to him for actually singing and being able to use his own voice. But he cannot even begin to be compared to people like Ramin and JOJ, because he simply would not be in their league if they had a 'sing off'. For me Ramin is my favourite due to the emotional aspect of his performance but JOJ is amazing. Because essentially Gerard is doing a movie which is singing it in a day and having it cut together. Whereas Ramin and JOJ are singing live in 1 take.
LOVED THEM ALL , MY FAVOURITE OF ALL OF THEM IS MICHAEL CRAWFORD WHO I ,LOVED , FROM IST TIME HEARING AND WATCHING HIM THE OTHERS ARE ALL WONDERFUL, AND SO CLOSE TO THE Michael . GERARD IS GREAT FOR 1ST TIME VERSION, MAKES IT DIFFICULT. LOVE THEM ALL. LOVE TO WATCH MICHAEL,AND GERARD AS HE GOT ME STARTED ON THIS TYPE OF MUSIC. (MEDALS) TO THEM ALL).
People seem to forget that Gerard Butler was in a movie and that means that he gets autotune, now don't get me wrong he can sing. But its different, he could gp numerous time over. whereas JOJ and ramin had one take to get it perfect. Ramin will always be my favourite. He just has that something special that is so breathtakingly beautiful.
I'm so obsessed with the clarinets that play at 00:33, its in the other versions but I think bringing it up so high in the mix was a cool choice. I think it makes the song so much softer and innocent
+Dalek Supreme better singer maybe all around though John Owens jones is better for the role older ,nice balance between higher and lower range , and does a lot better job at projecting
HOW DARE YOU! YOU EVIL PERSON, HOW DARE YOU! Ramin Karimloo is THE BEST Phantom that will ever live! Sierra Boggess is THE BEST Christine that will ever live and if you don't agree, you know nothing of music.
I once listened the record of JOJ's stage, I think that is the best version. Unfortunately I haven't got the chance to watch the recorded performance...Ramin, I like Ramin's emotion on the stage at 25th anniversary. Butler is the first phantom I met, his act is brilliant
Thanks for upload one of the best song ever written, sang by two of my all time favourites. For my opinion, Ramin is the best actor. His performance at the 25th anniversary is marvellous. But I like to say JOJ is the better singer.
Erik, the Phantom in the book was a skilled singer and teacher and a brilliant musician. His entire life was music. To have an okay singer like Gerard sing the Phantom was a disservice to the character he was portraying. He hypnotized people with his voice. You have to have both the voice and the emotion. It wasn't awful, it wasn't even bad - it just wasn't the quality one would expect from a virtuoso such as Erik.
I just have to say that Gerard is my absolute favorite. Not for anything but he isn't a trained singer and to take on this iconic role was a very brave decision. I also want to say that in case no one else has been listening, you don't hear him catching his breath between lines....he belted out that BE more powerfully than the others....then went into the softer tones of this song effortlessly....and he held that note at the end of this song for 23 seconds. And btw Andrew Lloyd Weber wanted a more rock n roll quality to the voice in the movie and he brought it all to the table and then some. ...I love him as an actor...love his singing voice and he's a great person
@@jmfalz6198 You can't hear Gerard catch his breath in between lines because he sang in the studio. There was probably a stationary microphone and he moved away to breathe. JOJ and Ramin sang live, so they probably had a microphone attached to them. In this case, they can't move away from the microphone to breathe, so the microphone captured each breath.
Ramin always be my favorite phantom of all time cause tbh he's the one that made me got into musical opera but don't get me wrong joj and gerard are awesome too❤️
I love how different they are and how they sound. JOJ's is very soft like he is singing a lullaby with a few powerful moments that really wake you up. Ramin's is so soothing which calms one down and sing the words different and with a lot of emphasis that makes this song the most unique. He puts more emotion behind it as well sort of like making it a bit more of his own song and the emphasis he puts on some lines makes it sound like he's actually trying to get you to listen to the message. His voice is beautiful and soothing which is why a lot of people, including me, like him. Gerard's is the one that is most emotional, seductive, and powerful which is why a lot of people dont like this version (I love it) because it's not about the singing and getting it to sound perfect as much as it is about the emotion and passion behind it that Gerard placed in his interpretation and it also sounds like he is seducing Christine. Overall of everyone who has played the phantom. not just in this video, John is very talented but Ramin and Gerard are both my favorite phantoms!
No, the phantom as written in the book, had such a hypnotic and captivating voice that even Christine fell in love with him. Also, he had an operatic voice not rock quality as Gerrard possesses.
The thing is, the original story by Gaston Lerou has been twisted and turned into other stories entirely. Either the Phantom was taken around the world to be an architect, or he was taken into the Opera house at a young age by Madam Giry. No tale ever comes out the same. Books and movies end up being completely different. Movie adaptations can make the story better or worse. In this case, people fell in love with Gerard's voice because, well, he gives you a sensation that the book Phantom didn't. In my opinion, the movies pulled everything off spectacularly. I doubt that this Phantom wears gloves cause his hands are cold as ice. And I also doubt the movie Phantom was tracked down by a Persian. It's just that Gerard takes you into a different world, where the voice may sound musically untrained, but has something in it that you cannot pull back from.
B/c Gerard was my first Phantom, he'll always be my favorite🖤🖤 but I love Ramin's voice as well. JOJ sings beautifully too. I mean they all have their own twist to it which makes the song that much better
Oh, who to choose?! Gerard was my first Phantom and holds a special place in my heart, good voice or not. Ramin teleports me to the eighth dimension and makes me sob and feel amazingly happy with just his voice. John’s voice is smooth and rich, with control that Ramin sometimes lacks. Ahh I can’t pick
Combination of vulnerable, sad, gentle, yet possessive, obsessive, wounded angry soul is found in John Owen-Jones'. He's the true Phantom's voice. Ramin 's superb vocal is way intense and obsessive, tends to compete with Christine's voice. Butler's voice tend to succumb in the mighty orchestra.
I never get when people say they prefer Gerard over Ramin (leaving JOJ out of it, as wonderful as he is) because of his "untrained" quality. Ramin has stated to never having a singing lesson, so while he may have more experience at singing, he's actually had less training than Gerard (who I believe had 4 voice lessons before playing the role). The argument is invalid when comparing these two performers.
Lucy Wallis JOJ is not trained in vocals either and never had a vocal lesson. Gerard was a singer in a band before he became an actor but I agree, his vocals were sub par.
Yvette Campos I didn't know that, thanks for the info. So that makes the argument invalid for the entire video then. I see a lot of people using that to defend Gerard.
Lucy Wallis Even though Gerard was a singer in a band he doesn't consider himself a "singer". The studio worked A LOT with Gerard in reference to his vocals. Though he is a good actor he should not have played the Phantom. Just my opinion.
Yvette Campos I agree. Sometimes I don't mind if someone isn't a great singer in a movie (like Johnny Depp in Sweeney Todd) but the Phantom has to have an amazing voice, and Gerard just doesn't.
***** Except he wasnt good, and as someone else said, hed sung in a band, so he had experience. But he was off key and had trouble projecting, whereas someone like ramin karimloo and joj never had a singing lesson (gerard had 4, so actually had more training than them) and yet sing with much more strength and stability, that the "he hadnt sung much" argument doesnt have any weight. Besides, the character is supposed to have some heavenly voice, even outside the musical context.
Ramin added a lot of modern touch to his performance while JOJ sounded very classic... However, we shouldn't compare JOJ and Ramin to Gerald Butler's singing capabilities... cause Gerald couldn't even hold that high note for very long at 19:43.
Gerald is always going to be my fav. I grew up with his version and to this day it hypnotizes me still. The others were magnificent too. I just will always be captured by Gerald’s voice. Keep in mind that Gerald did that with out any musical background which just made me admire his talent more.
I like Gerard the best. To my ears he sounds the most "real" if that's what you call it. Like there's really this guy who lives below an opera house whose whole life has been about this one girl. Not classically trained or sounds like he's performing for an audience. Gerard conveys an intimacy for an audience of one. With desperation, seduction and emotional fragility he tries to convey that through his ballad to his Christine. It's like I'm secretly peering behind a closed door to a private moment. Ramin and John have fantastic and beautiful trained stage voices, but Gerard makes it more "real life". I hope I've made some sense in this rant.
+Ramuh321 I agree. Ramin has a beautiful voice but it doesn't have the emotion that Gerard has. Gerard did so much better than expected when having no training beforehand (true fact)!
I understand your argument that Gerard sounds more “down to earth”, and I personally like his performance (although not my favorite). However, in both the book and the stage, he’s supposed to sound ethereal (even though obviously he wasn’t “trained” based on both interpretations of his past) and beyond compare, so personally I lean towards those who have more control and mastery over their voice yet emit the emotions like Gerard did.
Gerard will always be my favorite as the all-around performance character. I never took notice of him or thought he was hot until that role. I really want to see Ramin live. As a singer, Ramin could sing the alphabet and it would sound lovely.
John Owen-Jones: Sweet & Smooth. I feel like he’s just singing to Christine to impress her or possibly convince her. Either way, his voice was soft, almost like a more sensitive Erik. Ramin Karimloo: Strong & Bold. I feel like he’s trying cast a spell on Christine and possibly seduce her. He knows what he wants, and he’s going to get Christine one way or another. He seems like a confident Erik. Gerard Butler: Older. He sounds like he chose accent and his own interpretation of Erik over vocal quality. Not to mention he sounds older. Like reaching grandpa older. He sounds almost like he’s pleading to Christine, and that he’s possibly a more insecure Erik. Hands down, my favorite is Ramin Karimloo. However, I wanna hear Ben Lewis sing this song.
thanks for the combined tracks! this comparison confirmed my thought: JOJ can express better the gentle side of Phantom, while Ramin is ... too vigorous to my taste hahahaaa
I actually really like Gerard Butlers version , where he may lose out vocally to the other two who are professionally trained singers , they in turn don,t have the acting talent of Gerard who really does act the song and phantom out.........great effort vocally .
Roy Stone Except Ramin is self taught and doesn’t really know how to read music. Literally watch the 25th anniversary edition and say Ramin can’t act again, smh. JOJ is amazing as well. Butler also had the benefit of redos when both of them never did. There’s no excuse.
actually ramin was never professionally taught. he taught himself by reading books and replicating what he heard. and while i agree gerard did an amazing job showing the passion of the character i feel like ramin did a better job representing the vulnerability
As far as high notes go, JOJ has the best out of all of them, but that's about the extent of it. There was absolutely no emotion in his version of it and was, in truth, kind of boring. Now, as far as technique goes, Ramin would win this hands down. He is everything that an Angel of Music SHOULD be, even if he IS just a tad bit over-dramatic (though, honestly, I kinda like that because he shows the most emotion, as far as this song goes). However, having seen the 2004 movie version of "Phantom," I think I fell in love with Gerry's voice the first time I heard it. Yes, I know his vocal technique leaves a lot to be desired, but to me, he IS the embodiment of what I think the real Phantom would be. I love everything about his voice, including the rawness of it. So, for me, Gerry's Phantom is the winner here, with Ramin coming in at a close second, and JOJ last. That's my opinion, though.
Take a look at his performance at the Llangollen music festival. I PROMISE you'll change your mind! It gave me chills, and it was just a performance of the song, not from the show
As a singer, I know the difficulty of controlling a diphthong. This work is full, "night, flight, write" et al. Keeping the 'i' without allowing it to slur in those long sustained notes requires tremendous technical skill. Kudos to everyone who has sung it correctly!
Ramin's "Silently the senses, abandon their defenses" is sung so hauntingly and also sweetly it takes my breath away. We love you Ramin!
This is my favorite line in the entire production. Close second to when he reprises “All I Ask of You” after Point of No Return
I’ve never heard vocals that clear before in my life. I could listen to that one line on repeat for the rest of my life
The emotion that Ramon Karimloo put into the role is unmatched. You can hear the pain in his voice, the longing.
I grew up with Gerry, fell in love with Ramin's voice, and JOJ gives me chills. They all have their own way of singing this song, although some are better than others. I can openly say I love all three.

Wow! John Owen-Jones has a great mix of power and seduction. Never gave him a real listen before. I'm a new fan. Thanks for posting!
Ramin is the Phantom. Without him the play looses that deep dark emotional side. His powerful male voice leads the way into the play.
How many have you seen?
Ramin is something magnificent.. His voice... makes me tremble inside . I suffer with him.
His voice is like God crafted it to be like his chorus of angels. If music was a person, it'd be Ramin Karimloo.
@@kendallthompson2027 You just put the thoughts I've been struggling to say into words
He sounds like he's singing at me... sounds like he's trying too hard.
I have to agree he’s the best other than the Man himself
Ramin is the best ever
All have qualities in their voice. Ramin is Strong and high pitch John is soft, romantic, and Gerard has a rugged which isn't bad at all. To say who the best is depends on how I'm feeling on that day.
I recently fell In love with Ramin but I grew up with Gerard. Although I know all the technical issues as to why Ramin and JOJ are preferred by most, I can’t get over my first love of Gerad. For me he will always be my first and last phantom. Although Ramin certainly shook my resolve and JOJ is undeniably amazing
For me John Owen-Jones has the perfect voice for the Phantom's songs. I hope he gets to play the role again in the West End.
Crawford is legitimately the perfect Phantom for me (obviously you have your own opinion) and revolutionised the part (think he originated it musically too)
Major reason I think he is the best is because he had currently been playing an on-screen comedic idiot called Frank Spencer and his casting as Phantom in Webber's new big thing shocked people who said "he'll never do that justice" but he did!
Yes. Yes! YES!
The more I watch Ramin the more I agree with you!
@@TriggaHappy19 I agree Music of the Night must be seductive and not too strong.
12:20- 12:26 how could you not fall in love with that voice😍
JoJ - Sweet , Love
Ramin - Strong , Drama , Love
Butler - Cool guy
yes! hahaha
For me there is no winner as these 3 gentlemen are my favourite Phantoms, so having them in one video is my idea of heaven 🥰
I feel so privileged to say I have both seen and met Ramin and JOJ.
Yes, Geread is not as vocally trained as the other two but he makes the role his own, his acting is on point...and you have to admit he looks really good in those costumes 😉
JOJ will always have a special place in my heart though, he always makes me smile and he is so lovely....he has a lot of time for everybody!
11:14 the way he sings "senses" gives me chills everytime
JOJ seduced me. Ramin made me feel whole. Gerard makes me feel empty.
I love singing voices of John Owen-Jones
JOJ- creative romanticism with gentle tone but with strong empowerment at different high and low notes. He's gentle yet demanding.
Ramin-💖I love his voice his commanding basically his everything he's a great phantom with much emotion he demands and understands. He is in fact gentle to like JOJ
He is my personal favorite💖
Gerard- He's different but in a good way.
I saw him in London and in the rooftop scene as he was crying, the entire audience was weeping and sniffing. Amazing.
I love the chemistry between Sierra and Ramin, but the voice for the phantom is JOJ
I like Gerard butler, but l think that they all have a way of singing that's beautiful
such a tough decision! I've yet to watch JO J version of the POTO but I have watched Ramin and Gerard and they were both amazing!
1 Ramin Karimloo
2 John Owen Jones
3 Gerard Butler
GB + JOJ 💝💝 RK 💝 Sorry, but GB is magical.... And he is not a professional Singer, he is first an actor.... But I love him.... & JOJ so high notes ... ❤
I can't choose because all their voices are unique and each one of them portray the phantom in a different way. Over all they all sound beautiful and I have to admit I grew up with the 2004 film which introduced me to the Broadway's. I've grown to love them all, but if I had to choose I think it would be Gerard Butler and Ramin.
All amazing in there own way, however Ramin gives me the chills when I listen to it every time.
+bleachfreak811
Agreed, but Ramin impregnates my ears man. Sierra was a lucky girl, god damn my darkest dreams are filled with Ramin singing this to me over, and over, and over again.
Me too 👏🏼
I agree completely .
Lauren Beth emmy was awful
@@chloenkitty I don’t think she did awful
John owens jones is the best phantom
RAMIN KARIMLOO, YOU NEVER LISTENED TO RAMIN I BET. MUCH BETTER
+Dalek Supreme better singer maybe all around though John Owens jones is better for the role older ,nice balance between higher and lower range , and does a lot better job at projecting
wrathofscorpias liar. RAMIN IS PERFECT
HOW DARE YOU! YOU EVIL PERSON, HOW DARE YOU! Ramin Karimloo is THE BEST Phantom that will ever live! Sierra Boggess is THE BEST Christine that will ever live and if you don't agree, you know nothing of music.
wrathofscorpias Ignore those others. They have no sense of maturity or respect.
John owen jones so effortlessly outcompetes the rest of the phantoms... He's a legend!
hithere
Matthew Cammelle's version is better than JOJ. And many times better than Ramin Karimloo.
I once listened the record of JOJ's stage, I think that is the best version. Unfortunately I haven't got the chance to watch the recorded performance...Ramin, I like Ramin's emotion on the stage at 25th anniversary. Butler is the first phantom I met, his act is brilliant
What Grace to be able to listen to these Heavenly music and voices!and people like Andrew who received the talent to compose it!
Thanks for upload one of the best song ever written, sang by two of my all time favourites. For my opinion, Ramin is the best actor. His performance at the 25th anniversary is marvellous. But I like to say JOJ is the better singer.
Ramin hands down! His operatic emotive voice is a joy to the senses
Ramin has always been my favorite. I fell in love with his voice! ❤❤❤
John Owen- Jones every time.
Pick one? Good lord I could listen to these men put different spins on the character all day long and never pick one. All uniquely beautiful!
Gerry's still my favorite. He has that rawness and purity that I believe the Phantom would've had.
No, the phantom as written in the book, had such a hypnotic and captivating voice that even Christine fell in love with him. Also, he had an operatic voice not rock quality as Gerrard possesses.
Ewa Sadowski It's all fine, to each their own preference, I always say.
JOJ is the best.
John will always be my favorite phantom.
John Owen Jones
Ramin Karimloo
Gerard Butler
Ramin Karimloo Is magnificent .
Love them all!
in my opinion, John Owen-Jones is the best.
Me to
Ramin will always be my favourite... what a singer. What an actor.
WOW, all three were fantastic! I just love tenors
Ramin - he is my phantom
Oh and surprisingly Ramin has said he didn't train much at all and can't read music
Ramuh321 I think you're forgetting that Gerard played the phantom in the movie. Ramin Karimloo and JOJ played the phantom on Broadway
Gerard looks like a gay Phantom
I understand your argument that Gerard sounds more “down to earth”, and I personally like his performance (although not my favorite). However, in both the book and the stage, he’s supposed to sound ethereal (even though obviously he wasn’t “trained” based on both interpretations of his past) and beyond compare, so personally I lean towards those who have more control and mastery over their voice yet emit the emotions like Gerard did.
gerry’s is the only version that can make me cry
Ramin is Amazing he sings it so powerful
They were all beautifully done, but I love Gerard's version the best. Just my personal preference.
Gerard will always be my favorite as the all-around performance character. I never took notice of him or thought he was hot until that role. I really want to see Ramin live. As a singer, Ramin could sing the alphabet and it would sound lovely.
It's amazing that Gerald butler can sing this as well as he could. I'm sure it was edited, but it really sounds professional.
GeraRd
ramin's and JOJ's voice are very similar that is why i cant choose who is better phantom
Ramin is my fave Phantom overall, but I gotta give the best specific MOTN to 2012 Jones. There's a softness the others can't quite match
Gerard Butler is my favorite. His voice is natural, raw and quintessential masculinity, without being forced, contrived or artificed.
grazie, bellissimo video
thanks for the combined tracks! this comparison confirmed my thought: JOJ can express better the gentle side of Phantom, while Ramin is ... too vigorous to my taste hahahaaa
Ramin will always be #1... nothing else is needed to be said
WOOOOO!! GERARD #1!!!💖💖💖
I really like Ramin’s voice
John Owen-Jones 2012 version was easily the best, to my ear. He’s the only one with mastery of his voice.
Ramin's acting as the Phantom is excellent. The way he emotes deep sadness behind that mask is utterly incredible.
i respect ur opinion but ramin is PHENOMENAL at acting. especially acting as phantom.
actually ramin was never professionally taught. he taught himself by reading books and replicating what he heard. and while i agree gerard did an amazing job showing the passion of the character i feel like ramin did a better job representing the vulnerability
Ii say Ramin 10/10 they should have had him do the movie
He is actually Christine's father apparently if you look at the picture she has of her father in the movie
Delta Kennings He makes a wonderful Gustave Daae. Best actor in the movie! 😂
It gave me chills, and it was just a performance of the song, not from the show
I agree completely
Yeah, they didn't pick a good performance for JOJ. He's got such beautifully raw emotion when he's actually *in* a performance.
As a singer, I know the difficulty of controlling a diphthong. This work is full, "night, flight, write" et al. Keeping the 'i' without allowing it to slur in those long sustained notes requires tremendous technical skill. Kudos to everyone who has sung it correctly!
I hate how Gerard just refuses to open up the vowels, instead he chooses to close his jaw as much as possible.
I imagine John and Ramins voices on stage, but I hear Gerard's voice in a place like Lurray caverns. Love love love.
YESSS THATS WHAT I WAS THINKING
In my opinion,
John Owen-Jones: 8/10
Gerard Bulter: 7/10
Ramin Karimloo: 12/10
I feel that Ramin is the best:)
***** Gerry is 5.5 for me.
Agree with Ramin's point, he's amazing. and my ranking will also be Ramin first, John Owen Jones second, Gerard third....
2/10
50/10
-90/10
Yes! What I would do to sing with Ramin Karimloo just once.
Gerry is the best looking Phantom! And the best Phantom of all time! I am madly in love with The Phantom of The Opera!
Ramin is unreal. People saying he sounds too young, does the phantom have to be a certain age? O_o
