Whenever I hear him song "let your soul take you where you long to be", and he hits "be" so fricking hard, I just continuously amazed by this guy's greatness
When he lines "let you darker side give in, to the power of the music that I write" and he looks straight at the camera, it kinda feels like he is singing those lines to you. Saw him in Phantom in November and he was amazing.
There really aren’t many phantoms that can sing this song so well and so passionately!😍😭His voice doesn’t go thin on the higher notes either like most of them! 1000000/10 dayummn
Each performer brings something unique and special to the role. His emotive ability (and vocal smoothness) makes him among the very, very best at this role.
I think if you aren’t already drawn into the unorthodox “natural” voice of Crawford and Hugh Panaro’s Phantoms, then JOJ is the absolute best stage / trained Phantom that you could hope for. He’s the perfect blend of trained performance real deliverance of an organic fictional “living under the lair” Phantom out there.
After listening 🎧 🎼 🎶 to his singing song Music 🎶 of the Night 🌃, John Owen - Jones is now my fourth favourite💞 Phantom👽 after Michael Crawford, Ramin Karimloo and Hugh Panaro. Compliment from Hamburg ⛪ Germany 🇩🇪 .
Rather late for me to have found this video, but JOJ has always been my favourite Valjean and I'm sure he would have been my favourite Phantom too, having just watched the concert twice yesterday from the Royal Albert Hall.
Linda Christie I spent quarantine doing my all star les mis cast. I listened to 37 ValJeans. Alfie Boe got #1, Colm #2, JOJ #3. I went through every role knowing no one cared but me. Boredom is a strange roommate. Michael Ball got Marius and Norm Lewis got Javert.
Yea he is brilliant, Seen him on TV over the years doing these performances and adverts for it on TV with him- Went and saw Phantom with him in it recently a few months ago was ace
He's come the closest to the brilliance of Michael Crawford. His voice is incredibly powerful. I wish I can go see him play Jean Val Jean on Broadway this year.
Peter F Yes, John Owen Jones comes close, but still, to this day, no one has surpassed Michael Crawford's magnificent, majestic Phantom. And after 30+ years, I'm starting to think that perhaps no one ever will.
I consider him second best to Crawford in terms of beautiful Phantom singing, and third to Crawford and Panaro in terms of organic Phantom singing. Either way - absolutely love his approach & approach to it. He’s the most “technically accurate” Phantom that I like/love.
JOJ plays an extremely powerful phantom, Ramin Karimloo plays an emotional phantom. 2 completely different and unique portrayals that shouldn’t be compared.
John Owen-Jones along with Ramin Karimloo will be THE BEST phantoms i have seen...!!! And i've now seen this musical a total of 5 times with 5 different phantoms and christines. Speaking of christines i feel that Sierra Boggess & Celinde Schoenmaker were the best that i've seen in the 5 productions i've presently been to. This musical is so captivating folks that even though i've been 5 times now i could go 5 more and STILL have a whole bevy of new insights about it. And on that note the main reason i go is for the different performers. I feel like i walk away with a different experience each time. And obviously i only go to a show that has a different phantom and christine being played. I must say i did see the phantom played by Anthony Warlow and that was a mind blowing experience. Just based on the sheer fact that he's a baritone. And Weber specifically wrote the part of the phantom to be played by a tenor. But i have to say i liked Warlow's deeper voice for this role. Because it added a sense of commanding authority to the part i think the phantom needed. So my hats off to Warlow for pulling it off so perfectly with his baritone voice. I have also seen Norm Lewis who also has a GORGEOUS baritone voice. However, i felt his voice was to deep for the role. Where as Warlow was able to hit many of phantoms tenor high notes easily. Warlow certainly has a wonderful range i must say. I also should mention here that my critique's of these singers comes from me singing as well. I'm a tenor 1 borderline contralto. And i've sung professionally with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and many other 100 voice professional choirs. Anyway folks if you haven't seen this tremendously beautiful and moving musical masterpiece. You MUST get tickets and go it will leave an impact on you for sure...!!! And especially, if you get a chance to see it performed "similarly" to the people i've mentioned above and there professionalism.
Now that's the way the song is to be sung. I just clicked away from a horrible rendition on the X Factor, the guy over there was butchering this song. Love JOJ. It takes a real "cast" Phantom to do this song justice.
The best phantom I’ve ever seen. It’s been already 19 years I have serm him for the first time. May he come back as phantom and I will fly to London to see him in her majesty’s.

+Amy Baker I did see him on his last night 30/1/16,he was as good as I rember,I just wonder what new phantom is like?? im hesitating on buying a ticket.
I'm not sure about the new Phantom Adam, its Ben Forster and there are mixed reports about him.Someone has posted audio of him on YT.I had thought about seeing the show again but Ben's voice doesn't seem to cut it.
Crawford gets credit for developing the template for subsequent phantoms but vocally he's not in the class of Kamriloo and not within a zip code of John Owen Jones. JOJ's acting--and the fact that he is only one of two or three artists to play Jean Valjean and the Phantom on both the West End and Broadway puts him in a class by himself. Unless you can claim to have seen them all--which I have--doing the entire show, how can you compare them? Certainly, not from one song.
That's tv I suppose.... I also feel they are making him rush through it. Usually in the show, he takes much more time and holds the note for 'be' (long to beeeeeee) much longer than he does here.
John Owen Jones comes close, but still, to this day, no one has surpassed Michael Crawford's magnificent, majestic Phantom. And after 30+ years, I'm starting to think that perhaps no one ever will.

I really don't like MC version but didn't bother saying it before lol. He was probably great for the time back then I think his interpretation of Phantom was stereotypical of sort of a ghost villain and very Disney like. Joj adds a lot more depth to the character just by singing alone and that's why he is my favorite

John Owen Jones best Phantom and Jean Val J, any role he plays he aces. Truly the voice of theatre
I count my experience of attending Phantom at West End twice with John Owen-Jones singing this role one of my greatest blessings of life.
He is not only a great singer but also a great actor!!!
Every single time I watch a video with the Phantom in, he has incredible eyebrows

It's because eyebrows are the only good thing Erik has left.
