Another important thing to mention about the a&m - ut rivalry is that outside of football the schools are two vastly different cultures, with a&m being the conservative country school and ut being the liberal city school. And then a&m’s seemingly lopsided hatred for ut stems from when ut was first founded, it was deemed the “more prestigious rich” university even though a&m was founded first, and lawmakers tried to keep a&m as this “poor ag school”. Of course now the two school are wealthy now, but that helps explain why the aggies hate for the longhorns is more intense in their traditions.

That's the true meaning of assimilation and that's why this country is great. To fully embrace our culture here as well as the culture your family is from is the best kind of citizen you can have. When I went to college, we were a division two basketball team that had one or two pretty good in state rivalry games for us. Most of the Asian students at our school would never be at any of the athletic events, that's why I love seeing people of all colors coming together and drinking that college football Kool-Aid. I think it just makes for a tighter community.

Texas' biggest rival is OU. A&M is a rival, for sure, but it's not like Michigan vs Ohio St. Texas vs OU is though.

A rivalry is not judged by how many fireworks are set off during the event. It goes much deeper than that. You don't play your rival for what 13 years, yeah there is going to be a lot of pint up frustration and intensity. If you wanted to see what the Michigan OSU rivalry was about then show the fight at the end over the flag plant.
