My rarest record I have is a old Vogue Picture Disc (78) from 1942 I think, last time I checked in it’s near mint condition it’s worth anywhere from 500-800$ of course it’s really only worth what someone’s willing to pay so I’ve decided to use it for wall art!

This is true. I dropped $200 (most I've spent on a record, ever) on MxPx's "Slowly Going The Way Of The Buffalo" which only ever saw one vinyl release back in 1998 on release day. I had it on CD as a teenager, and it has some personal, special memoirs attached to it for me. So at my current age of 37, I felt the need to find it on vinyl (because only the music I DEEPLY care about I get on vinyl). It is a prized possession of mine, along with some other vinyl I have purchased ($100+) in the past several months. I am in no way rich, and have fell down the rabbit hole of buying vinyl when I most likely shouldn't LOL
The soul is fed, though. Mostly satisfied. :)

I'm getting a record player for my birthday and I've already started my list of vinyls I would like. Hopefully I'll get some money to buy at least one of them. You might know them.
    1. Their Satanic Majesties Request- the Rolling Stones
    2. My dear Violet- Amy's arms
    3. Soft spots- adult mom
    4. I'll try living like this- deaths dynamic shroud
    5. Million miles away- macross 82-99
Your channel is really useful when it comes to teaching me about record players and vinyls
When it comes to rare vinyls I don't actually own one but I did see one in a shop. It was an original pressing of a live performance from queen (I think it was live performance in Manchester. I can't really remember. I haven't seen it in a while) but I know it was a live performance and the selling price for it was £300.

I collect 78s and wax cylinders, so it's hard to judge what's the rarest cause there are quite a few. The rarest 78 I have is a 1902 columbia 7 inch disc that is miss announced and labeled and made during the time Columbia had Victor press their record (lasted for about 3 months)! The rarest lp I have is a mint condition copy of the first pressing of "The Art Of The Theremin" by Clara Rockmore!

The picture disc of the soundtrack to Xanadu has sold in the five figures. Only a handful are known to exist, Olivia Newton John did not like her photo on the record, so the story goes, and collectors with lots of cash jump on one when it comes up for auction. I've never seen one in person. The movie bombed I guess, although many of us liked it.

My most valuable record (not sure if it's the rarest, I have a lot of stuff from very obscure bands that's probably rarer but not as sought after) is a very early mono copy of Pink Floyd's first album, The Piper At The Gates of Dawn, pressed in 1967, the year before I was born. I paid 5p (about 3 cent is US money) for it at a charity sale when I was a teenager sometime in the late 80s. It's realistically worth somewhere between $200 and $400, but I have seen them go for over $800 on eBay.

My 1st pressing 7" of Holidays In The Sun by the Sex Pistols (although I think it's a freak sale, I've never seen ot go for wvwn close to that before), Loveless by My Bloody Valentine on vinyl, my original 7" of Anarchy In The UK by the Sex Pistols (first run with a miscredit on the B side) and the double LP Pork Soda by Primus, on brown vinyl.

One of the rarest for me is Onra's "Chinoiseries Vol.3". Assuming the rarity is primarily because they stop pressing it and it's also from what I consider a legendary trilogy of instrumental hip hop albums, which samples a multitude of vintage Chinese, Vietnamese and Taiwanese music from the 50s, 60s and 70s

  • @kreature6632
    @kreature6632 6 ปีที่แล้ว +102

I'm not sure about the rarity of this one but it has a lot of sentimental value. One of the records I wanted to get when starting my collection was Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here. Considering that a lot of their albums have been rereleased on new vinyl, I figured it wouldn't be that hard to find. I looked everywhere I could think of but no one had a copy for a good price or at all and I'm kind of against the idea of ebay when it comes to this. I told my dad about this and without a second thought, he walks to his collection he had inherited from his late brother, pulls out an original 1975 pressing (scratch free, just needed cleaning), and hands it to me along with Animals by Pink Floyd and Signals by Rush (which are original pressings as well). I still don't think I've thanked him enough for this.

I don't really own rare records, but I do have a pink Pink Floyd bootleg record that I love because it's a record of a 1968 live performance they did in Rome and it has a Roger Waters interview on it. It's not rare or expensive, but it's really cool because I feel like Pink Floyd is performing for me--it's different from their recorded sessions and kinda why I like the Ummagumma Live LP in the same way.

I haven’t put my whole collection into Discogs yet, there might be some more rarities. And I might dig out my moms old collection when I’m done, she has a lot of Rolling Stones and Beatles albums that might be first pressings

The original Simply Vinyl pressing goes up for 500 or even more. For all I know, Trent Reznor (who produced ACSS) is in good terms with Manson again and the master tapes are not destroyed (as it's been said in old interviews), so there's a huge chance the album could get a vinyl reissue in the future. We can only hope.

I have the first Tuxedomoon 7", of which they made 250, I believe. At the time, late 70s, allegedly you could submit your own tape at some department store or stores in the US (in this case most likely somewhere in SF) and they would make a personal small pressing for you. Was this ever a thing? I don't know.

Most surprising sleeper record is the Only Lovers Left Alive OST red vinyl by SQUURL and Jozef Van WIssem. Paid 20 USD for this, and recently copies went for 300-350 USD. current cheaoest copy for sale on Discogs is 420 USD, with some users selling for up to 1000 USD.

two albums that seem to be very rare I'd like to own are:
Feel the Cold by North Star: only ever found a vinyl on sale on Discogs and it was for 75 euros. Outside of that one LP, never found it on sale anywhere else. On Discogs, 4 people own it and 23 (excluding me) want it. This album was never sold on Discogs, so I don't know what happened to that one LP I once found
Bla Vardag by Atlas: more people have it on Discogs (41 own it and 132 want it), but currently there is only one copy on sale and it's for $100 CAD. On Discogs, the lowest price it went for was $78 CAD, the highest $178 CAD and the median is $150 CAD. Again, can't find a copy of the album anywhere else

One of my favorite packaging so far gatefold and comes with a poster.
I checked how much it's worth right now and it's about $80

The album ABC in your possession is not and original pressing. It was on Motown US pressing 1969. The pressing you have is the Canadian pressing I assume by the Tamla/Motown logo. Which in 1970 or even 1969 had a white and black label. That's the canadian version of all Motown records back then. I have an original copy of ABC I personally bought in December of 1969 (being at the prime age for bubblegum music) and has a worth of $30.00 give or take. Sealed and unplayed may have a worth of $100 to $200 dollars. Depending how much the consumer is willing to pay. Don't rely on discogs as a bible for records' worth. These are appaised by record dealers and based on the amount consumers are willing to pay. Pick up a copy of Jerry Osborne's Money Records. These figures aren't etched in stone, but it give you a better idea through Jerry' in depth record research.

One of my albums that I bought in the 80s for a few dollars is now going for $50 and up. It is "Hymn" by Ultravox, the Japanese import had laser etchings on it, not playable through the etchings, but still pretty nice looking. I was surprised to find out how hard it is to get a copy for a decent price. Mine is still in great shape.

I have to take notice of the Jackson 5's ABC album. I think it should be noted that the copy you have is a British pressing. The US pressing uses the standard Motown Map label layout. Tamla Motown is usually designated to European releases. I suspect your copy is a British release judging form the color of the label and the STML prefix on the catalog number.
