    As I mentioned in the video, hoping to have gaming results soon. Spotted a few strange results while benchmarking, unfortunately there's limited in depth testing to compare to so we're just waiting for a few people to get back with answers. Hope you understand! We want accurate results above all else

    In the laptop segment manufacturers gives you 2 choices at midrange now:
    1. Midrange Intel laptop for midrange money
    2. High end AMD laptop for midrange money
    Go AMD, get a tier higher performance across the board. Who knew a blue sticker was so expensive?

    • @Therapistwatermirrur

      OEMs and gamers will still justify that high price tag of high end Intel as being worth it. Basically you have to have deep pockets to be a mobile heavy user of Adobe and gaming.

      4900H wouldn't benefit from 90W much. But there are already 3950X build into laptops at their 65W efficiency mode. With 3950X configurable power draw would be amazing thing. Though I think that laptop with 65W mode is only 15-20% less powerful than 3950X in a desktop. But giving it 20W more would close the gap pretty well.

      @3polygons 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Still.. in Puget tests, both Davinci Resolve and Premiere seem to do quite better with just a 2060 Super 8gb than the 5700 XT. Significantly better, if you look at the benchmarks. Surely drivers and internal design favoring more games than apps in the AMD cards, as in games the AMD card is clearly better than the 2060 S. The brute force I believe is actually in the AMD cards, but internal design, fine tuning and drivers are a huge factor (both have same amount of VRAM!). Indeed, the Radeon VII 16GB (such a pain that is EOL) beats so many nvidia ranks that is not even funny. In certain very key test (Davinci, if I recall right) is THE SECOND, above the 2080 ti, and a bit (very slight, despite the 8gb VRAM of difference) below a RTX Titan 24 GB. Of course, in video editing 4k and stuff, VRAM quantity is a huge factor, but u know the huge difference in cost with that Titan... Even more, it's way cheaper than a 2080 ti, which it surpass with ease in that test. So, a card in a high end video editing benchmark (which, if anything, tends to favor nvidia and, till recently, intel), done in a very professional way, costing sth about 550 bucks, beats (not by a large margin, but significant) a nvidia card, the 2080 ti, which costs, what, 1400 ? Almost 3x. If I had the money, I'd be getting not one, but two VIIs, just for when the 1st one would break, lol. Like the 3950X, an absolute productivity monster/beast. Would make an incredible combo.
      Better put: In Davinci , 4K video editing, a 2500 $ nvidia card, the RTX Titan 24GB, performs almost the same than the 550$ Radeon VII 16GB. By 1/5 the cost. Ouch.
      It is not now, but if stuff with the quality of the VII are done in the future (equivalent stuff) , and so optimized for apps, I can foresee then a tight fight in graphic content apps, too.
      Not an AMD fanboy, I indeed surely will pair a Ryzen with a 2060 S, but I had lost my hopes for AMD in cards for productivity until I saw what a 500 bucks (the VII, not 5700XT) card from AMD can do.

    My son was very curious about why there was an anchor through the box, so I had to explain the whole thing. Then I had to show him some old videos with TH-cam's Closed Captions (to show how TH-cam loves the opening)...and happened upon a Tim video which had the caption "Hadron Boxed". LHC much? Might be a little complicated for merch., though.

    Just took delivery of a HP OMEN 15 Ryzen 4800H and it's bloody brilliant. Excellent compliment to my 3900x based desktop for photography work.
    I wanted one with an RTX 2060 but they are delayed till end Oct / Nov at the moment and my old Dell 5577 I5 4 core was on it's way out so no choice but to go for the 1660ti version.
    Slammed 64GB in it and a 2nd M.2 and happy as can be. Will do all I need and then some.
    For those interested. Old laptop I5 4 core 7300HQ took 13 mins 40 sec to render a 1080p project from Davinci Resolve free. The new one did it in 3 min 28 sec and it rendered the same project out on battery in 3 min 45.

Next year they're going to be replacing our Intel CPU based laptops and, if, by then, these AMD CPUs are paired with decent spec GPUs by then, I'll be suggesting we upgrade to AMD machines for the laptops too.

    • @juzujuzu4555
      @juzujuzu4555 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I think it's 5% in single core but 10% with multicore workloads. As I would assume those would have to be binned CPUs to make sense in having 4800H and 4900H. The integrated graphics being faster is insignificant detail, as even the smallest int.GPU will be plenty enough for everything one would do with it because discrete GPU exists. So to justify price difference the only choice is binning. And probably those laptops with 4900H will have better cooling, which helps with Ryzen to gain even more.

    Zen 4 + RDNA3 with enhanced 5nm+ node. That's the one laptop I want. AMD could build 16c/32t and 5700XT level performance APU with smartshift tech. As if RDNA2 was 50% better perf/watt on 7np node , RDNA3 could have perhaps 30% from architectural changes and 90% better power efficiency from 7np -> 5nm+ enhanced. Thus 1.5 x 1.3 x 1.9 = 3,7 times performance per watt compared to 5700XT. And that CPU doesn't consume anything when it's feeding 5700XT level GPU.
    If AMD goes wild, they could even have much higher performing GPU on that APU if they think they could take over the gaming laptop market. They could easily beat any Nvidia GPUs on APU assuming Nvidia isn't moving to 5nm+ enhanced, and even then AMD had the added benefit of having just one APU.
    These numbers are based of TSMC's own numbers, multiplying the efficiency numbers from 7np to 7nm+ EUV to 5nm and then 5nm+ enhanced.
