Man or woman, please never humiliate yourself like this by begging someone to love you. It won't work, it just makes them lose even more respect for you. Cautionary tale of how NOT to act
I am in Awe as I read all these comments. They didn't "work out" for a myriad of reasons. 1) She chased him 2) She was pushy & nagged him 3) She was Jewish and he wasn't 4)They were political opposites 5) Men don't like to be "driven" by women! They like women who "support" their ambitions....I am 64 & it took me a LONG time to figure this out.😜🤣👍
In my opinion, it’s because Katie was still re-living WWII. She thought she still had to support anyone who fought against Nazis. She also had photos of Roosevelt and Churchill, who were very much capitalists. It seems nobody really challenged her about the fact that Stalin had blood 🩸 on his hands.
Maybe at that time, people living in the West did not really know much about what were behind the Iron Curtain. "The grass on the other side is always greener". So some people idealized something that was beyond their reach/understanding.
There is always a phase in every romance when the woman begs and cries and pleads for love, and then moves on in a way that looks effortless, but very few are forgiving, unless they have met someone way better.
This is the most humiliating thing to watch. I wish she had a friend who would smack her and tell, her to move on because this guy is NOT into you. In real life Hubble would have changed his name and moved far away. I can’t imagine this embarrassing desperation ever actually working to get a man back.
Yeah, its so cringey. All the begging and self-questioning. No man would be attracted to such an insecure woman with such a low-self-worth. Why would a so-called feminist settle for this?
Wow, you really didn't get this movie. He was drawn to her because her temperament was so different from his and vice versa. It was an attraction of opposites and Streisand and Redford embodied it brilliantly.
This is the first time I am exposed to this movie. After a few clips on youtube, I decided to watch it on Amazon Prime. After their fight at JJ's place and she was about to call him, I could not continue to watch. First, I thought the script was so bad that she would do the begging. Then, I calmed down and saw that the movie was really well-made. Young women (of course not all) could be like that, even with all kinds of feminism talks today. At the beginning, it was a mismatch. She was into him but not vice-versa. The first accidental date, he puked then fell asleep on her. A mismatch cannot be fixed, no matter how both sides try. The movie was quite realistic. There was no "happily ever after".
I don't get it. Katie can choose to be herself, warts and all, and she's courageous. And yet, when Hubbell wants to live for himself, a life less complicated than the one Katie offers him, he's a coward. Personally, I don't appreciate the Katie-types who always think they know what's better for you than you know yourself.
Yes, Also I can totally see that Redford was annoyed by her. This seems to be the most genuine scene in the whole movie. He was frusturated with her being controlling.
This reminds me of The Last Five Years. Like, we can understand why the man got put off for a while, but then he cheats and it's like, OK DUDE NO. Especially with this guy cheating on her while SHE WAS PREGNANT.

Man or woman, please never humiliate yourself like this by begging someone to love you. It won't work, it just makes them lose even more respect for you. Cautionary tale of how NOT to act
Pushing pushing is not LOVE Everytime I see this, she is just plain insistent on having everything her way.
Thats NOT Love, Your NOT Getting the Movie.
ter far uh I do get the movie, more NOW than 30 some years ago
Ame esta película y la tengo cada tanto la veo
What man would want a relationship this intense ..lol but what a great movie ..
This movie broke my heart.
So realistic for the times that led up to these.
I am in Awe as I read all these comments. They didn't "work out" for a myriad of reasons. 1) She chased him 2) She was pushy & nagged him 3) She was Jewish and he wasn't 4)They were political opposites 5) Men don't like to be "driven" by women! They like women who "support" their ambitions....I am 64 & it took me a LONG time to figure this out.😜🤣👍
You are boring.....he loves her.....
can we not forget him cheating on her while she's pregnant?
Yes those are all valid points but he also loved her but too many differences to make it work
Its true, she pushes too hard..and makes him pull back even farther..both of their weaknesses are made more prominent
Wonder did they like each other while making the film
This hurts so much
she does beg him and make him uncomfortable
I begged before
Literally fell to the floor grabbed the guy's leg crying,
"Please don't go"
He did.
I got alot of beautiful poetry from him.
@@debravowell8337 Must be some intense poetry. I'd love to read it.
Sleeping pills and wine??? Oh Hubble’s a bad boy!
I could not have a relationship with a woman who has a poster of Stalin on her apartment wall. Just sayin’
Why didn’t he challenge her about it then?
In my opinion, it’s because Katie was still re-living WWII. She thought she still had to support anyone who fought against Nazis. She also had photos of Roosevelt and Churchill, who were very much capitalists. It seems nobody really challenged her about the fact that Stalin had blood 🩸 on his hands.
OMG I didn't realise that Katie had a picture of Stalin. Oh no no
Maybe at that time, people living in the West did not really know much about what were behind the Iron Curtain.
@@lepetitchat123 Low self worth comes in all stripes.
Un des plus beau film d'amour que j'ai jamais vu, un des plus triste aussi : deux personnes qui s'aiment mais ne peuvent vivre ensemble...
God he is sooooo good looking
I don't get it. Katie can choose to be herself, warts and all, and she's courageous. And yet, when Hubbell wants to live for himself, a life less complicated than the one Katie offers him, he's a coward. Personally, I don't appreciate the Katie-types who always think they know what's better for you than you know yourself.
Yes, Also I can totally see that Redford was annoyed by her. This seems to be the most genuine scene in the whole movie. He was frusturated with her being controlling.
6:16 Redford's Chewbacca moment.

Bonsoir, ou pourrai je voir ce film complet. Un site a me montrer, s il vous plaît. The way we were
I have just watched it on Amazon. I could not find a free version.
Heart wrenching scene - I always wanna shake them both when I watch this. 💔
This reminds me of The Last Five Years. Like, we can understand why the man got put off for a while, but then he cheats and it's like, OK DUDE NO. Especially with this guy cheating on her while SHE WAS PREGNANT.
Forcing him to conform to her idea of life. Who made her the arbiter?
Well-acted, especially Streisand.
It the best m v good
I well cry with you were together ❤️ in this

Rewatching this as an adult, I have to say that I find many parts a bit cringe-worthy. She really is just begging this man to stay in her life. I get it. I've known people to do it in real life. Still makes me say an internal eulogy for her pride. repost PEOPLE YOUR NOT GETTING THE POINT OF THE MOVIE!! guilt trip never works. he was with her out of pity/
Oh no, the poor guy is put out... geez.
@Jessica LT, actually he acted like any GUY (not a woosy boy) who was irritated by her games
" style " has nothing to do with who a person is or their character . hubble was too concerned with his peers accepting his girl . i love this movie but i didnt like the ending . he seem to care too much about what other thought .
There is a scene earlier where she basically takes advantage of him when he’s passed out. It didn’t age well because it’s actually assault. My heart breaks for her, but her character is so cringe. Brilllant performance though.
TH-cam: Love Story/The way we were free please 😊
Yes please
Far out, she seems exhausting! And he seems just right.
Seems like a woman trying to change a man… 🤦🏻♀️
