Huge Barca fan here ..I like Klopp, but I believe that it was a masterclass of a c session by Valverde. There were moments in the match Barca were playing so very unlike Barca and this was the need of the hour. The reason Liverpool didn't win this game is because of the fact they controlled the midfield and pinned Barcelona back. If they had sat back and let Barca have the ball, Barca would naturally pull a high line since they play position football and Liverpool could hit them on the counter using Mane and Salah's pace. That way they would have also open space for Mane to run at Pique, but by pinning Barca back not only they took away their own advantage in pace, but they didn't have a target man for crosses to go in a crowded 18 yard box either. On the flip side of it, by pinning Barca back, Messi had miles of space when Barca did get the ball on the counter, which is just scary. Liverpool could have lost the game 5-0.

The best managers in the Europe are Valverde and Ten Haag, because they play the best inherited possession based football in the world at the moment. That Salah shot that got off the post is the only real chance Liverpool had. Everything else was either cleared by defenders, or Ter Stegen saved it (and trust me, all of those saves were easy for a gk as good as he is). So, Liverpool only had possesion, and that is by a small margin (52-53 % in the end). So, saying that Liverpool were a better side, well, that is not really a case in this game. Even if Liverpool wins at Anfield, which I don't think will happen, they are still not going trough. Barca will surely score at least one goal at Anfield, because Liverpool will have to attack, and that will leave space behind them for a counter attacks, and we all saw that Barca can do so much in those kind of situations, even in this first leg.

Yup, people outside Spain don't seem to understand that Barcelona is no longer Guardiola's team (in a positive sense).
They've learned how to play without the ball, how to force the rival to come at them, how to defend + counterattack, how to adapt their intensity to the demands of every game.

The reason Liverpool didn't win this game is because of the fact they controlled the midfield and pinned Barcelona back. If they had sat back and let Barca have the ball, Barca would naturally pull a high line since they play position football and Liverpool could hit them on the counter using Mane and Salah's pace. That way they would have also open space for Mane to run at Pique, but by pinning Barca back not only they took away their own advantage in pace, but they didn't have a target man for crosses to go in a crowded 18 yard box either. On the flip side of it, by pinning Barca back, Messi had miles of space when Barca did get the ball on the counter, which is just scary. Liverpool could have lost the game 5-0.

It's ridiculous that they are trying to pretend Liverpool defenders are blameless on those goals.
The first goal was a great pass and finish, but Matip was a bit out of position and van Dijk just stood there rather than following the run of Suarez. That is not good defense.
On the second goal, Barcelona definitely got a lot of luck for it to wind up with Suarez, but again van Dijk just stood there ball watching. Maybe Messi still scores, but Virgil needed to get on the goal line and make Messi work for it. That is what Rakitic did and he was able to save the ball off the line. If him and Jordi Alba stood around like the Liverpool defenders, Firmino would have had a goal.
The last goal was a stupid foul by Fabinho. If he lets Messi go by him, it is doubtful Barcelona create a goal. There were guys supporting him that should have been able to snuff out the attack. Instead he makes a needless foul that sets up the best free kick taker in the world.

As a Barca fan, I can't believe how we walked away with that result, in the second half we just could handle Liverpool's intensity and not one of our players could hold the ball and find a pass, then, those 5 or so mad minutes and the game is killed off by Messi's brilliance and some measure of good fortune. By the way, there has to be a special mention for Ter Stegen, so often he bails us out and tonight was no exception, hard luck Liverpool.

I can totally believe it because we were amazing defensively. Sergi Roberto, Piqué, Lenglet, Jordi Alba, Busquets, Rakitic, Vidal, Ter Stegen, etc... what an amazing defensive job.
Offensively, though, we were just good enough, nothing crazy (except for Messi, of course, who showed once again why he's the best footballer in history.).
Suárez, Coutinho, Vidal and Dembélé had a poor game (offensively speaking), that's why Barcelona only scored 3 goals.

These pundits are crazy. Klopp had no answer to the changes Valvarde made. They don’t need to be in possession if the opposition are only passing it around in their own half and Barca open teams up by drawing teams into a high press. Teams seem to fall for it week in week out with Messi dropping deep, Jordi on the over lap. Freeing up Suarez and Messi and Dembele on the right wing. Sometime after 85 mins as always Pique will make his way into the penalty box to try and sneak a late goal. How do they not see it is beyond me. That Salah shot that got off the post is the only real chance Liverpool had. Everything else was either cleared by defenders, or Ter Stegen saved it (and trust me, all of those saves were easy for a gk as good as he is). So, Liverpool only had possesion, and that is by a small margin (52-53 % in the end). So, saying that Liverpool were a better side, well, that is not really a case in this game.
Even if Liverpool wins at Anfield, which I don't think will happen, they are still not going trough. Barca will surely score at least one goal at Anfield, because Liverpool will have to attack, and that will leave space behind them for a counter attacks, and we all saw that Barca can do so much in those kind of situations, even in this first leg.
