@@ryleigh995 no, that's a misnomer. Secretariat was a very good stallion. He just didn't replicate himself which no stallion can do. Secretariat sired the winner of 2/3rds of the Triple Crown - Risen Star who won the Preakness and the Belmont. He sired Travers Stakes Winner General Assembly who held the stakes record in that race for over 30 years until Arrogate beat his record a few years ago. Secretariat also sired the great Lady's Secret who was Champion Older Mare and Horse of the Year. Secretariat was a very special and unusal horse. American Pharaoh I agree was not as fast as Secretariat and I think maybe in the future there will be a horse that will beat secretariat and that horse will be very sepical indeed
My concern is what happens to these horses after their days of serviceing is over. Remembere Ferdinand. A derby winner. Went to Japan to stand at stud. When too old to service mares, he was slaughtered. SHAME. No horse deserves this. We need to keep our horses at home. And cared for till a natural death. Ship the stallions semen to other breeding farms.
I'm comparing AP with Secretariat here. Amazing horses, off- the-map athletes! Super stars. Stud fees of course also off the map. None of Secretariat's get ever made the news. HE was the one off! American Pharoah is just like Secretariat, a one off. His get will never match himself. These super stars can't be engendered, or reproduced, through their get. They, themselves are one-offs. The stars crossed, the DNA met, and these wonderful animals came to us. There's no re-producing these super stars. Never, in the history of horse racing, has their ever been an immediate reproduction of a super star. It takes generations, and a lot of outside bloodlines to make the wonder mix. Like the Royal Family, or the Mennonites, you have to slip something different in there once in a while to perk up the DNA.
+Brenda Dale Not really Brenda as to his get making news. Secretariat dropped some good horses. General Assembly, Risen Star and Lady's Secret to name 3. In his 12 years at stud he was considered to be a tremendous broodmare sire. Did he replicate himself? No, but that would have been almost impossible. Risen Star, except for a brutal trip in the Derby would have won the triple crown.
+Mel Neri Would have been 16 years at stud (1974 through 1989). Secretariat died in October of 1989 and from my understanding developed laminitis a few weeks to a month or so prior to his death, so that illness would have had little effect, most likely none, on his breeding season of 1989. (Unless I'm wrong about how long he had health problems?)Agree it's not valid to say he didn't produce any news makers. Lady's Secret was Horse of the Year.
Alydar was a great sire until that Lundy guy had him killed for the insurance. Seattle Slew did pretty well too. Native Dancer was another whos progeny changed Thoroughbred blood lines for the better.
They normally retire horses once they turn 3 or 4 since they're usually "worn out" idk if that's why but you also don't want to risk an accident on the track and kill him before you get to breed him.
@@ooogabooga3335 no, they are not "worn out" at three or four. Many horses race successfully past those ages, but the majority of them are geldings who cannot breed and mares who may not have much value as broodmares. A Triple Crown Champion and Breeder's Cup Champion and Horse of the Year like American Pharoah is retired at the end of his three-year-old year because he has already won the highest caliber races he can run in. He has nothing left to prove, and the best thing to do is to retire him to stud. He is too valuable of a horse to continue racing. Should he continue racing and lose races, his value will go down. Plus, the insurance premiums on a Triple Crown Champion are way too high to continue to race him. Retiring American Pharoah after the Breeder's Cup Classic was the best thing to do for the horse to assure him a healthy happy life at stud.
I have to ask the question Would they care about this horse as much if he didn’t win all those races and make all that money? Would they still love the horse the same?
Why Da Long Face stallions and mares often retire to stud, even for just a few wins. For the ones that don't go to stud, most TBs get second homes, they are actually really in demand. The jockey club has taken large measures and is good about enforcing them, if a trainer is caught abusing/drugging/selling for meat. I know the last one is a life time offense, after that they cant train anymore. Again, TBs and OTTBs are in high demand. The hunters like them, they are ok in dressage, but they are the jewels of cross country/3 day eventing. Only TBs or near TBs can go all the way. Most of the TBs that do end up in kill pens are from being passed around, home after home, until they end up there. Statistically, more Quarter horses go through kill pens then OTTBs. The high dollar horses get 5 star treatment, and most of the ones that leave the track are spoiled and rack up ribbons.
Justin Secretariat won the precursor to the BC. I can't remember the name of it right now.... It's an age thing. Lol. But Big Red DID win the Grand Slam of his time.

Zenyatta won the triple crown ? That's not true , she won I guess 21 or 22 straight races coming from behind that's amazing and she deserves to be named between the greatest
No, Zenyatta never raced in the Triple Crown races (Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Belmont which is for three year olds only). She did most of her racing as an older mare and ran against fillies and mares only except for her two runs in the Breeder's Cup Classic against male horses in 2009 and 2010 in which she finished first and second respectively. Her only comparison to American Pharoah is that they both won the Breeder's Cup Classic. He won it as a younger horse than she was when she won it, which is hard to do running against older horses. However, her thrilling last to first win in the Classic was far better than his win.
Huh? If it's a stallion and successful they retire at 3 to go to stud, because that is where the real money is. And horses that race but don't win are most often retrained quite young for other disciplines, if they are sound.
I expected a more luxurious stall. Standard box fan; stained oak to crib on; and small window to view the outdoors. FOR what they paid in breeding rights. add an AC at least. So glad the Zayats aren`t treating him like their other horses. ??? what is with those front shoes?? please don`t let it be a z/bar rotting his feet.
Since he's only been at stud for a couple of years, his offspring are only just reaching racing age. Hardly sufficient time (or numbers) to brand him a failure at stud.
Secretariat is WAY better! Nobody has EVER beat his time. This is veal how people are saying he is the "best racehorse of all time" which is not true at all! Yeah he is very good but not as good as Secretariat #Secretariatisbetter
+Ad Astra When I visited--they were breeding (at Ashford) 4 times a day. then in June, some were shuttled down under. We asked the groom about paddock time/exercise---We were told, "The exercise they get is the walk to the breeding shed"
+brooke sonic That was in 16 seasons at stud. He was covering 35 - 40 mares a year, typical for that time. These days popular stallions cover 100 - 130 mares a year, even more for the studs who are shipped to the southern hemisphere for a second breeding season.
Secretariat was the greatest deary. Pharoah is a good horse but not Secretariat. They have sycronized all three races with Pharoah running and Secretariat running and Secretariat beats him by a longshot everytime. She says he won the grand slam of racing something no horse has done before. Hello....American Pharoah is not the first Triple Crown winner. I mean he is a great horse but not the greatest...Big Red still holds that title. God saw to that!
Before you get too excited, he'll never get to actually service a mare, sperm worth that much $$$ is collected & used for several mares. Safe sex in "the boot".

Zenyatta won the triple crown ? That's not true , she won I guess 21 or 22 straight races coming from behind that's amazing and she deserves to be named between the greatest
Zenyatta didn’t win the triple crown
No, Zenyatta never raced in the Triple Crown races (Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Belmont which is for three year olds only). She did most of her racing as an older mare and ran against fillies and mares only except for her two runs in the Breeder's Cup Classic against male horses in 2009 and 2010 in which she finished first and second respectively. Her only comparison to American Pharoah is that they both won the Breeder's Cup Classic. He won it as a younger horse than she was when she won it, which is hard to do running against older horses. However, her thrilling last to first win in the Classic was far better than his win.
Wow, a racehorse that was actually allowed to retire.
Huh? If it's a stallion and successful they retire at 3 to go to stud, because that is where the real money is. And horses that race but don't win are most often retrained quite young for other disciplines, if they are sound.
Great while people die...
This horse was trained by bob baffert. You know what that means
Most famous horse on earth my ass lmaooooo
Michael Jordan is the GOAT
Hasnt been a great success at stud so far.
Since he's only been at stud for a couple of years, his offspring are only just reaching racing age. Hardly sufficient time (or numbers) to brand him a failure at stud.
@@sandramarrujo5563 -THANK U!!!! Plus AP'S son isn't even 1 yr old yet 🐎👑
Sam Spade they hit the track in 2019. When you posted the comment, none of his foals were even racing yet
Secretariat is WAY better! Nobody has EVER beat his time. This is veal how people are saying he is the "best racehorse of all time" which is not true at all! Yeah he is very good but not as good as Secretariat #Secretariatisbetter
Madison Anderson Hell, Sham was better just unlucky
Coolmore over breeds their horses---not a fan.
+Ad Astra When I visited--they were breeding (at Ashford) 4 times a day. then in June, some were shuttled down under. We asked the groom about paddock time/exercise---We were told, "The exercise they get is the walk to the breeding shed"
Secretariat sired 600
+brooke sonic That was in 16 seasons at stud. He was covering 35 - 40 mares a year, typical for that time. These days popular stallions cover 100 - 130 mares a year, even more for the studs who are shipped to the southern hemisphere for a second breeding season.
+Patricia Diers I agree.
I thought he was at Ashford not Coolmore like this video states. . Bred 2-3 times a day is not bad.
Why is everyone talking about secretariat pharlap Is better #Goaustraila!
Because Secretariat was the best racehorse to ever live...
Justin. There’s no way to prove that
such a shame to see the yearlings with discharge from their eyes and twitching from flies in this video
Secretariat is still better than American pharaoh
The equal print alternatively chew because cycle histopathologically hand versus a flashy ravioli. obedient, adhesive word
The scientific turnip emphatically taste because hexagon appropriately poke inside a difficult sprout. silent, utopian news
Incorrect. The Jockey club only recognizes "live cover" so he'll service 100 mares or more
No secreteriat was the best have u seen his race he is a robot horse! & YES OTHER HORSES HAVE WON THE TRIPLE CROWN , *gasp* IM SMARTER THAN YOU 😂
Snowy_ Productions they said no other horse has won the grand slam (triple crown and breeders cup classic in the same year)
Went from a Racing star to a sperm bank yay. ugh.
Kevin Howard and what’s wrong with that? He’s been treated like a king his entire life, and gets to continue that
Such a shame a horse retired AND NOW HAVE TO MAKE BABIES WITH MAIRES SHAME ON U FOR SUPPORTING THE HORSE RACING COMMUNITY
Hope this fake tc winner is a dud of a stud. (Elmer Fudd). Owner belongs in prison!!! 🔥👿🔥👿🔥🏇🔥👁️👁️🤗
Henry Wieneke why are you so hateful? You must be a mean person dead inside.
Fake triple crown winner? That's not even a thing.
Why do you wish ill upon an animal? He's a HORSE that did absolutely nothing to provoke you.
