We asked our Mexican mamás to try different snacks from India! A few years ago, the moms tried Indian snacks for the very first time but this time around we invited more Mexican moms to try different Indian treats! They tried different Indian snacks like Parle-G, Lay's India Magic Masala, Thums Up soda, Haldiram's Khatta Meetha, Chatpati Imli, Kurkure Masala Munch, Frooti mango juice! Have you ever tried Indian snacks before? How will the Mexican moms react to Indian snacks?

Shortly after that, I was in an Indian restaurant that had a buffet and I tried the rice pudding dessert kheer. It was so much like what she used to make that I grew very emotional and began to cry in the restaurant. It was very special. I'm from west India aka Maharashtra and we sometimes eat 'bhakri' which is hard+mushy flat bread made of perl millet/sorghum/red millet with spicy chick peas flour dish called 'pithla' or can be eaten with non-veg curry. It is considered most healthy and light, usually ate in dinner so that it gets digested fast and don't carve to munch late night snacks. Hence we don't always eat rice or roti.

The egg boiled flavor she was referring to was probably the black salt (which is actually pink in color) in the chips. Black salt smells like rotten egg 😅 whenever we use it to cook Indian food at my house (we're Mexican) my mom calls it "polvo de pedo" 😂 no disrespect to my Indian peeps.

@@DAn-ur8ik the staples are literally the same. a standard Indian meal is usually some kind of flatbread (chapati, roti, naan, papad etc), rice (pure, as pilav, as biryani etc), legumes in some form (beans or lentils). The only thing that is different is the way they are spiced (the masala).
This is btw the reason why I think Mexican food for a long time had a hard time to become popular in India, not because it's too strange, but because it's too similar. You serve Indians a Mexican meal, they'll feel it's Indian food spiced 'not quite right'. Only recently Mexican restaurants have started picking up a bit in bigger cities and becoming popular with young Indians. But they do adapt the flavoring quite a bit to local taste, so it's more Mexican inspired than really Mexican.
The way Mexican food is composed though is very similar. It would feel very familiar to any Indian. And it's not only the food, family values are also very similar, the joy for music and celebrations. I've never seen Indians and Mexicans or Indians and any type of South Americans for that matter, not getting along. They always do find a lot of similarities and mutual understanding much easier between each other than, say, me as a Northern European with either of them (I've been living in India for 10 years now, but also used to live in South America for some time).
Mixed marriages between Indians and South Americans for those very reasons tend to run pretty smoothly too. Of course there a plenty of differences, but many of the baselines for a lot of what they consider 'normal' are pretty much the same.

    2. As an Indian, even I don't like khatta meetha. I mean decide a flavor and stick with it.
