Great video!! Forgot how crazyyyy that season was… Nash & Bron were my fav players at the time so I am bias but Nash defied the odds especially when those players were all over 6’6” & he won a lot of games & was probably the best shooter/passer/PG in the league… that’s why I think he won.
Kobe was the best player in the league, and when he went head up against Dirk, Kobe’s putrid Lakers won the series matchup against the eventual western conference champions. Dirk has a strong argument in his favor under the current criteria that seems to change year to year. Though there should be no debate who the best player was. Kobe had 2 MVP’s and potential title runs in the bag but just wasn’t surrounded by much, screwed by the front office. Kobe’s true achievements this year can’t really be explained in a minute, it’s really 1-2 hours worth. He posted the highest PPG season ever recorded when adjusted for pace, arguably the goat scoring season. He was doing this during the slowest paced decade in league history. He was shattering records that had stood for over 40 years, and was turning one of the worst offenses in the NBA into a team that could topple the mavericks twice that year. Kobe was also first team all defense while posting the greatest PPG season of all time. Only two players in history have more top 5 mvp finishes than Kobe, it’s one of those reminders that mvps don’t mean that much when guys like Joel can beg his way into one, and Westbrook can win one as a 6th seed, but when Kobe was doing the same it was an issue. Too much narrative in mvp discussions by the league and the media.
Well said. . . I 100% agree with you on the inconsistent media narratives robbing worthy players. You make me want to do an in-depth video on Kobe’s 2006 season and stats. I’ll definitely shout you out when that time comes, because one minute certainly wasn’t enough time to dive into the madness that was 06 Kobe
@@Tay_Sports well said man! People seem to forget that prime Dirk was extremely mobile and limber . His pace of play (and Mike D’Antoni’s offense) definitely helped changed the pace of the league. It’s crazy how quick Nash was, and his efficiency was off the charts. I think we should stop compare westbrook's season and kobe's season, one really made history (westbrook) the other did an amazing season, jordan did it twice same for harden, and yes the era's pace was lower but he was 45% FG and 34% 3FG So yes, his season (mainly his 81 points performance who might be the best regular season game of all time) was amazing but he didnt go for a record that we thought were unreachable. Moreover, yes, his roster was not good but it was the same for lebron and he leads them to the 4th place on the east (3rd if we only look at the results) This said i don't think he would have deserved the mvp above steve nash maybe but not above dirk or lebron
I respect where you’re coming from. But when you look at it from a micro-perspective, in ‘06, he had the highest ppg for a single month that anybody in history (not named Wilt). Then when you look at the most 40 & 50pt games for a single season, only MJ and Wilt were up there with him at that point in time.
