I drove for Greyhound for 43 years. We would be called in the office if caught driving like this. We were taught the push pull method. However, don't tell anybody, I usually spin the wheel with one finger. It drives bad drivers crazy, because many of them have trouble controlling their car with both hands.
pull push method is unsafe and outdated and stops you being able to make precise and quick steering adjustment. this is much better. you should unlearn that as soon as you pass your test
Single hand is better when driving slow, gotta use two hands when fast and have to be extra precise since there's not much movement. Never really learned from an expert but I have been driving for years now and it's what most natural for me.
During my driver's test, I remember doing the three point turn and parallel parking wrong so the guy criticized me because I did everything else perfectly. My response was "who the hell drives with two hands!!?" Said it with attitude too. Did it one handed and got a half mark xD

Nope you still got it wrong. While cornering your hands are never supose to leave the wheel and your arms are never supposed to cross. The only thing here you got right was the 10 n 2 o'clock position. When turning left you turn with your left hand and feed the wheel with your right hand. And vice versa when turning right
Exactly. You're supposed to feed the wheel through your hands, not cross them over. I'm still guilty of this sometimes, but, I know you're definitely supposed to feed the wheel through.
At the time you need to cross your arms youre not going fast enough to trigger the airbags. Unless you got unlucky by some morons on the roads. Also feeding the wheels is an ancient techniques which is why most drivers abandoned it because of its jerky inputs.
@@reynaldiwidjaja277 and it's bad habits like that which is the reason most drivers on the road would fail their driving test if they were to retake it.
This is not how I was taught to steer. I was taught to use the trick where you maintain 9'oclock and 3'oclock positions with your left and right hands, and when you steer you pull the wheel left or right while sliding your hands back up to keep them even. Then exiting the turn you do a "controlled letgo" where you slowly let the wheel slide through your hands, guiding the wheel back to centre as you exit your turn... Hard to explain without a video demonstration, but it's the only way you can ever operate the wheel without crossing or twisting your arms. And it works pretty smoothly, in practicality, keeping your hands as central as possible will always allow you to "react" to things more efficiently, should you need to dodge an obstacle or evade a car.
Yes same. Never actually letting go but you let the wheel run through your hands rather than repositioning them on the wheel. That way your hands don't leave the wheel and no crossing = better control. 👍
You do realize that not all vehicles do not have that type of steering wheel right? I have a manual steering wheel and if I listened to your advice I'll be in a ditch, so you're only right when it applies to automatic steering wheels.
People who drive manual cannot use the 9,3 position when you go to change gears youll loose control its better to keep your left hand at the top you have way more control while switching
Racing drivers usually drive manual cars and they use this technique like in the vid trust me. The reason is to keep track of your tyre direction. And they usually downshift before turning into corners so that they can hold the steering with both hands when cornering.
I was instructed that both the hands should never go beyond the 12 o'clock position and the 6 o'clock position. At those two positions the other hand should come and take over. Especially the hands should never cross each other.
When there's yield signs, a complete STOP, is required when there's no one coming. That's what STOP signs are for. Luckily all-way STOP aren't used any European countries, even though they're permitted.
