A good tip is this: imagine your right shoulder is aligned with the center of the lane. This applies to right or left side steering wheel vehicles. I align my side view mirrors with the rear corner of the vehicle. This gives maximum outward views . I used the shoulder with center of lane alignment with tractor trailer, bus, and standard vehicle.
OMG!!! What a coincidence!! I just drove home from training my daughter with her new permit and she is struggling a bit with straying from her lane. I landed here for some techniques and tips and realized that I had just drove down the same streets in Kendall Fl. as this video 😆😆. The tips were great, thanks for sharing!
Honestly, the easiest way is to just look where you want to go. Look as far as you can see, and look at the center of the 2 lines. You don't look on your sides when you walk right? You look where you want to go. Same for driving. You look where you want your car to be in, and your hands will do the rest.
I love this video. I just got started driving a few months. I already got my permit. I've already gotten my permit, and I'm about to go take my road test next Wednesday. But outside of my road test, I'd be on the road, and sometimes I feel swirly, but I'm trying hard. I am on my way to get my CDL Did I mention I have a disability Cerebral palsy
Blessings to you my brother you can do it I also have cerebral palsy I got my permit last year I’m praying I get my license before the end of this year keep going 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I just finished my learning driving of the first day and didn't go well at all,Am laying sad here and decided to search in TH-cam, about steering wheel and find your page interested thank you🙏 the explanation help me a lot,
Thanks for the video. I have been driving for 30+ years, accident free and very confident of my driving skills. Until 5 days ago, when I rented an OPEL CORSA, driving from Nice to Paris, France. The car steering wheel kept trying to turn at random times. I thought that it was lane departure waring system moving the car away from nearby vehicles or the metal road barrier. After about 700KM (435 Mil) , and the road all but clear of other vehicles, I was now convinced that there was something wrong with the vehicle steering. I stopped at a truck stop and tried to call the company's support, but the provided phone number was out of service! Frustrated, I continued with the journey to Paris. Then I noticed something. On the dash display console, two green lines appeared whenever the car was properly centered on the lane, with no more ghost steering!. This video has taught me an important lesson on how to keep the vehicle centered on the lane. Which, as I learned in France, makes it easier to keep going at 130KM/H (way more faster than my local limit of 100KM/H)
I started my driving lessons 3 days ago ... i was a little bit nervouse and had a problem maintaining the car postion in the center of my lane and my instructor seem not to be patience with me which made me more nervous....i love how you take your time to explain and i feel a bit more calm ...now I'm ready try again... I'm ready for this 💪🏾
My next driving class, I going to make sure I relax my hands on the wheel. Guess my hands has been too hard on it that’s why I have been drifting off the line. Thanks for the video, hope it helps.
another tip i might add is to look for TIRE MARKS on the road from vehicles using the road. if there is then try to align your wheels to that tire marks and just follow, that simple.
@@Cynthia-sg3yc you may be gripping the wheel too hard. Just relax your fingers, and put your hands at 10 and 2. Especially in modern cars, power steering is really strong and sensitive so you won’t need to adjust a lot. You also have to get used to your car’s steering and accel
Yes I feel better when I relax you are so right because I’m a nervous wreck at times…didn’t know I would get a drivers license and drive one day but I did it very proud of myself! I joke I can do it I will thanks great video…
I wish I had such a calm and thorough teacher when I was learning. What scares me the most is the crazy drivers. one never know who will cut in front of you or tailgate you.
I am a beginner and your video is very helpful. I am having trouble how to stay in the straight lane. Just couldn't figure it out because my instructor never thought me.
I was taught to use the windscreen (which ever side you drive on) use the near east bottom corner of windscreen to get the middle lane line and the middle of the windscreen to get your outer lane line.
Hey, I did find this some helpful information with an issue I was having as a newer driver... which is me changing lanes, looking over my shoulder, and then drifting out of my lane while doing so. But I will try this technique of not staring for too long next time I go driving. Another issue I am having is maintaining my speed without looking at the speedometer too much. If I am in a 25MPH speed limit, I'd be going 25, then I could take my eyes off the speedo for 10 seconds and look back. Suddenly, I'd be over 30MPH. It really didn't feel like I was going that fast. But it might be all the traffic around me going faster so I usually just go with it when I am not looking at my speedometer. I could be wrong about this, but can this in any way be manageable?
Thank you so much, I just started today and I was worried about keeping the car straight and I applied too much pressure on the steering wheel but now I know what to do ❤
Good video overall - I did struggle, when you indicated to have hands on the wheel at 9 & 3 … which is of course correct … but your grip in the video was 10 & 2. 10&2 - no good for you (if airbags deploy fists/hands get forced into eyes!! 9 & 3 is where to be!! Thumbs up for city driving- rural / highway & expressway I say it’s ok to rest your thumbs in the top notches right & left - easier to keep the car going in line.
i will be taking my drive test soon, it's not scheduled yet, but i think i might be taking it in a ford transit 350 as that is the vehicle that i am the most familiar with
I'm British, so we have RHD cars. But the principle is the same. Just keep your leg nearest the centre of the car, in the middle of the lane. So here in the UK I use my left leg. But in the USA you'd use your right leg.
I was totally looking at my left mirror for way too long and started moving into the middle of the road.....now watching this video I was so embarrassed. 😅
Not on UK roads where cars are packed on the every road side. How do I make sure that I not to far from my lane while trying to avoid touching the cars packed on the road sides?
