    Superb video as I’ve never seen any wheel refurb company in Ireland get them back to factory even when they charge €150 a wheel. Hence I was able to preserve the spoke on 20 inch 759i Bmw G30 wheel and just use your technique on the section that was damaged. I ended up using 3000 wet sanding and the finish was almost too polished like an E46 M3 19 inch diamond cut from factory. Thanks so much for this. Best solution out there

    Hi mate just wanted to say I followed your tutorial. I have a bmw 1 series with the polished shiny lips. They are the optional 18" Alloys in polished silver and black. I managed to kerb one alloy few weeks ago. Well my repair came out superb. You can't even notice where it was now. I used scholl s20 black Polish after 2000 grit wet sanding. Many thanks 👌👌👌👌

    Wow! Cracking results for just a few quid. My wheel are exactly the same as these on my S3 and they look like trash. I was thinking about sending them off to have them done at a cost of almost £500 for the 4 alloys. Seeing this I am not going to bother and will have a go at home.. Great work. good technique and lots of patience on display here. probably looking at 3 or 4 hrs work depending on depth of abrasions. I’ve done a few wheels as illustrated when turn around time was critical or replacement wheel wasn’t an option but at my $75/hr shop rate I check the aftermarket for refinished wheels before doing it in-house.

      If you want a cheap job then follow this. The reason you spend a lot with a professional is 1) the entire wheel back & front will be sand blasted, 2) all blemishes removed, 3) filled as required, 4) powder coated several times & baked hard, 5) several coats of heavy duty lacquer.
      You always get what you pay for.

    People trying to chime in by adding their own backhand compliments and slidding them criticism in, we see you, you ain't slick.
    This dude did a good job and you know what? it didn't require painting, just sprayed clear to protect and that's it!

    • @CatacombKidd
      @CatacombKidd 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s all well and good. I suppose I’ll be one of them and add a comment that you might find slighted and back handed, but will only help other people trying this... He never cleaned the surface before painting. Not to mention, just before the scuffing, he used a polishing compound. That stuff sticks around a long while, and paint isn’t going to adhere well to it. Acetone, mineral spirits, even rubbing alcohol. Just oils from your hands alone can contaminate a paint job. Have to clean it before applying paint. Looks decent now, but unfortunately, his clear is going to be chipping and peeling in no time at all. Maybe he did but didn’t show it, or said he did, and I didn’t catch it...

    • @hamzak4730
      @hamzak4730 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      CatacombKidd I’m going to attempt this. Not sure about the clear coat though. Is it absolutely necessary to use it? As there are quite a few diamond cut touch up videos on TH-cam which don’t use clear coat... thanks

    looks good, worth baring in mind as I have been window shopping for an audi a3 preferably with the same rotor wheels fitted and have yet to see one with an unmarked set and these wheels dont look as good when powder coated a single colour. It helps on these particular wheels that the machine polished parts sit out prominent from the painted parts so as to avoid damaging the painted bits.

    This is a superb demo, articulate and clear without any stupid music or the history of how the wheel got scuffed!!!!!! Just two things please, can i not just use my DA sander instead of a drill? and I struggle to find such high grit discs, they all tend to only go up to 240. I currently have a 2010 Golf match where the diamond faces have tarnished and also a 2012 Nissan Quashqai, again with corroded faces. Thanks very much, really is one of the best videos I have seen

    Hi Mad4Motors, thanks for the vid! I've got some pretty standard curb rash on the rim of my BMW A80 ferric wheels which I want to repair like this. In most of these videos it seems that, after sanding down the area, the whole wheel needs to be primed and re-painted instead of just the affected area of curb rash... could I get away with masking up the rest of the wheel and only priming and re-painting the affected area? Cheers.

    Fantastic restoration! Why do you use 1K clear coat and no 2K clear coat? Thanks for sharing!

    Looks great. Curious as to the effect it has as you’re possibly throwing the wheel out of balance for removing material? Just an educated guess. Excellent results though
