- Lance can appear arrogant and flirtatious on the outside. But he’s really a nice guy. In fact, I believe he is the most selfless of the team. In the episode Fall of the Castle of Lions he pushed Coran out of the way of a blast. He got badly injured, but saved Coran. He went to help Coran again in Crystal Venom even though he thought the castle was haunted. He stopped Pidge from getting into trouble with Commander Iverson at the Garrison and ended up getting in trouble himself. He went into a place filled with mind-swished mermaids to save everyone. He was very supportive of Keith becoming the leader, even though he wanted to lead. Lance was the most worried about Shiro and Keith while they were at the Blade of Marmora. Lance stepped in to protect Laika from the warden. Lance deeply cares about his team. But he thinks he’s the weakest link of them. He was even willing to leave so the others would have a better chance of winning. Luckily Keith talked him out of it. Lance has many insecurities that he tries to hide. Combining this with his selflessness, if he had to choose between himself and his team he would choose his team. Lance would sacrifice himself for them. Lance’s voice actor actually joked about Lance dying. The thing with Jeremy Shada is that he tends to hint or spoil things about the show. Lance could actually die! But I doubt he’d be gone permanently. The show’s executive producers didn’t want Shiro to come back so quickly, but they weren’t allowed to have him gone for longer. Since Lance is one of the main characters if he died they’d find some way to bring him back. Like with quintessence or a healing pod. Of course, Lance sacrificing himself doesn’t have to mean him dying. He could just end up letting himself get taken captive.

Okay I have a theory kind of like this. There could be a parallel of the old Voltron. There's one episode where Allura gets "killed" by Kova so that Lotor can get her all to himself. It made the whole team realize how much they needed her and they appreciated her more when she came back, as the knife Kova used was just enchanted to make it look like she was dead. What if they did that with Lance? Lotor may not have the same intentions, but he could kidnap Lance in hopes of gaining inside info on Voltron the same way he tried to get Allura in the original. This could be what Jeremy was talking about when he said Lance dies, and it would also provide a great character arc for Lance and the team. Just a thought.

I think to be honest Lance is more likely to be captured than him dying or everyone thinking he's dead, I think Lotor will kidnap him for info cause Lotor would think Lance is the weakest member of Voltron and would be easy to break to get the info he needs, but Lance is not going to be that easy since the team is like a second family for him and wouldn't care what Lotor does to him, I have also seen the theory that Lotor ends up some how controlling Lance in someway which I really hope doesn't become true cause just the idea of Lance fighting his teammates it hurts to think about it.

I've actually never really noticed how much Lance has sacrificed himself for others. I guess its because his flirtatious personality sticks out more. Anyways I doubt that they'd actually kill off Lance since he is a major character for the shows progression.

This is why Lance is by far my favorite. His self esteem issues are obviously hidden by a humorous layer of ego, while he is still clearly damaged. His quick thinking to swoop in and save other characters, even if it mean sacrificing his own life, he won't hesitate and that's quite admirable.

Considering they brought Shiro back cause they had to sell toys, there is no way Lance will go out of the picture cause he is the most popular character, his absence could affect the shows ratings, cause alot of people would probably stop watching if Lance is gone, he is constantly used as hype bait to keep the audience anticipated, so i doubt he is gonna die for good. But I am hoping we do get some proper development for him. I just want Lance to really really shine through.

Theory: It's been implied in the past that Galra blood has adaptive, self-healing properties. In order to save him, Keith does a blood transfusion, but in order for it to work, he has to really tap into his inner Galra and go full-blown, purple-skinned elf man to save him.

I think that Lance may sacrifice himself in a way that does get him killed, but because, as you said, they can't actually kill off the characters they will bring him back and i think quintessence (if that's how you spell it) would be the perfect way to do this, he will probably end up sacrificing his life for one person but by doing that he saves the entire team and they all feel guilty, however the person he saved outright will feel super guilty and then without consulting the others using quintessence. The reason i don't think he'll get captured (but if he does it won't be a big thing) is because, as you also said, Allura did that for Shiro.

When you stack it up like that, it does make so much sense. Lance says and behaves superficial but his actions show deeper, he has love and affection for his team and is dutiful about his missions, even creative on the fly.
I’m glad they made his weakness his own lack of confidence in his excellent abilities, which may not be as blatant as an excellent fighter, strategist or decision-maker, but everyone, everyone literally looks at Lance when they need someone to do the uncomfortably emotionally difficult things he just takes as nothing.
When he’s annoying, I simply remind myself that he is a teenager. I was seriously annoying at that age. Still am. Teens fight hard to find their place in the world and I’m glad this show, Voltron, genuinely shows that with these Paladins. Shiro obviously seems older because that he doesn’t fight so hard about that.

I feel Lance may go down the "lies become truths" route. That is; The things Lance says, no matter how ridiculous, becomes truth. There isn't a lot of evidence for it but I think the potential seeds are there. In S2 he calls himself a "sharpshooter" and he became the team sharpshooter. In S3 he called himself "ninja sharpshooter" maybe we will see a "Ninja Lance" soon. The BOM seem like space ninjas and Lance does seem to be the closest to them so maybe he'll learn something from them. The team may think Lance dies after sacrificing himself but before that he stored his memories in the ship like Alfors was in S1. He wouldn't have a problem doing that, maybe even in secret knowing he is going to sacrifice himself, since Coran explained how it works so well in S1 and Lance was one of the last to leave in that scene. So, yeah, Lance's "death" foreshadowed.
