Those cars are freakin fast. I have been in a turbocharged 91 GT that made 722 rwhp and the car was crazy. Never personally owned a car with that much power, but that might change.
finally a video that proves that automatics can do good under the right circumstances. I like both 5/6 speeds and autos but after about 1 yr of a stick with shifting in traffic doesn't make it easy at bumper to bumper. Both cars in this video are awesome good job guys.
i like how they keep the engine bay so clean.. I was talking to some fellow car enthusiast about 5 years ago when the question was asked "What would be a sexy, fantastic, great handling, fairly usable back seat, coupe, thats not really main stream. that could possibly be the new BEAST." my exact words were, "if someone ever slapped a turbo on a E46 M3. that my friend would be the new beast". now im afraid since i dont have an M3...lol
@turbomoore Very good point. What I get for responding after a third shift work night. I'm just not convinced an auto would be a giant advantage in anything but hitting the strip, defiantly not cruising with the lack of OD.
well no, you said the supra has a superior platform compared to the M3 and i argued that it doesn't and to go fast in a straight line doesn't take much. What's the fastest Supra time in a mile? Is it functional or is it just designed for a standing mile and has super sized tires in the rear?
@Echo81Echo yep. I was never a import guy until I bought my 98' Supra, I started working on it and swapped the TT for a T78 Single and I fell in love.. haha. Its not even the power of the car that gets me, the sound of it when you really get on it is amazing. =)
3:34- 3:36- HPF OWNAGE, that's why the E46 M3 by HPF is a legend. A fair race, and you could see the supra was attempting to beat the M3 but the Bimmer just dusted em
Well, I agree with your statement about Supra's in general. However, in this matter it seems that both cars seem to be on par with power and there is a slight indication that BMW has got the upper hand but because of its low profile tyres it slips and takes a bit of time to either keep up with the supra or catch it and pass it eventually.
@wowshiqptar wow, like a manual would have made that much of a difference. He walked on him and kept pulling. Give props where props are due, both are great cars.
@turbomoore I've seen 500hp auto's get drug by 450 standards. There are a few ways to negate that little advantage of full boost shifting. I suppose in an import with a smaller motor and giant turbo that suffers from massive lag it would be the case though. I understand what your saying though. Why have no auto's run mile events?
Bro the haters don't even know that is a sick ass car. anyone who says anything about your wheels or whatever probably drives a corolla and likes to hate on nicer cars
Two questions 1. why are some people saying that the Supra won? It ran out of stream on virtually every run. First run the M3 was spinning its wheels in every gear. After that in races 3 & 4 & 5 the Supra clearly lost and if the run was any longer it would have been a tiny black spot in the BMWs mirror 2. Why are some people saming that Supras are desirable and worth a fortune. Just checked out Autotrader today cheapest 1994 £2750, most expensive £8500 (mint condition & proffesionally tuned)
The reason is like u said. the Supra is just waiting to be unleashed. The m3 takes alot more to bring out its potencial. Boost for boost the m3 will make more power with a wider power band but the Supra you can simply up the boost past the m3's capacity. In this vid the m3 seems to have traction issues and the supra hooks well. The reason the supra takes off but the m3 locks in and i would say if it went alil longer the m3 would start pulling hard
big change at first m3 was getting it the it changes, i personally like 6 speed over smg(own 6speed m3) looks like m3 had traction issues cause everytime he went to shift he would fall back, good race though
@FukU2222 Do you know what RWHP or BHP mean? BHP is HP at the flywheel, 950. RWHP is HP at the rear wheels. At about 15% drivetrain loss that is a !140hp loss between the flywheel and the wheels, very near 775. Probably more like 900bhp but w/e BTW that m3 is quick but needs better tires...
Supra FTW. There's something to be said about a car you don't see every day. Well, unless you own it. Seeing an M3 is like seeing a Civic. Both cars were well built but an automatic Supra is nothing to laugh at. The constant boost played a big role here.
The thing that makes a supra better is that they're easy to mod and work with.. The stock pistons, crank and engineblock can handle alot of horsepower with out switching to custom crank and piston or even cange to a race engine. The MKIV was a cheap sports car and they succeeded with what they did. A highly modded supra will almost beat every super car except of a buggatti and things like that.
2 small turboes make less turbo lag, so better throttle response, but a bigger turbo gives more power once it spools with more lag, and twins dont dissipate (if thats how its written) heat very well, so there again you lose power, someone right me if im wrong...
actually given the popularity of the supra the prices are the other way around, realistically you cant have a turbo supra for 25k. I can find plenty of m3 e46's for under 20k and you can spend 20k for a HPF kit or go custom turbo for about 10k including install. You can have a turbo m3 for about what a stock supra goes for. JDM isn't cheap anymore.
For all of the can't shift for "shit" comments. The M3 has an SMG gearbox which is just paddle shifters, judging by how long the shifts took he either had it in the slowest shift mode or was having issues with his smg gearbox... M3's come with Getrag transmissions just like supras... So their is no need to upgrade the transmission it is already bullet proof. But it does sound like there is something a little off with the smg system
The M3 is freaking fast....crazy power a nicely done by HPF. But the Supra with the TH400 is putting the power done much better and that's why it beats the M3... At the end the Supra it's just the roll race King!
@kungfurabbit101 yeah but where are u lookin? because everyone ive searched is no where NEAR that price even at 80k miles on the dash.highest mileage i want to go is 50-60 thats pushing it and still well in the mid $20k+ range not a insult i just wanna know because im trying to buy one
@ferrucc1o I know that, I guess you and speedytang both missed my sarcasm. Since he was ragging on the bimmer for having paddle shifters, yet the Supra is Auto...
@aigaleada because 99% of the time when 1 looses its not properly built.a hpf m3 is a properly built m3...a t74 right away is a no no then runnin 27psi? that air is going to be hot as hell.not to mention a 3 speed? theres 8 sec supras that use the stock 6 no need to change it.
@darksniper1982 MK IV Supra production numbers: 32,000+, E39 BMW M5 production numbers, under 20,000. Supras are a dime a dozen and a POS plastic fantastic interior. My BMW M5 is all leather, Alcantara headliner, 80hp over your POS stock. Ricer is a term and whatever you want it to mean is what it means but supras are RICE especially yours with it fart cannon exhaust. Good day
actually in this situation the auto was better. Start from a roll, no shifting, no coming off boost, less feathering the gas, etc. With an auto once your car hooks you just keep it floored and going straight.
@turbomoore Roll races I believe a well driven manual is faster. Auto's are very good at keeping speed up not to mention the massive loss of power you get through one compared to a standard. Drag strip auto's are faster all day, but not on the highway.
Nearly every one of these races the M3 had no traction for its first 2 gears of the pull, and once traction did show up the Supra lets off.. Buy some new tires M3 guy, this is embarrassing spinning over 100mph Also to the "BMW Guy cant shift" Comments, it was a SMG, (Basically automatic), he's not shifting.
wow 14K... where do u live man, lol. Around here even the early gen TT ones with low miles are insanely overpriced, and I live in Northern VA... one guy was selling his 94 Supra TT witth about 70K for 25K and another was selling his 98 Supra TT (Although it looked verrry nice) with 30K miles for $48K (but I guess it's worth it for a rare car)
i love bmw but i also love supras and i wonder how much whp that supra was putting down cause it seemed to keep up with 775whp pretty good..just turbo cams and meth inj huhh..good race though
Love both cars, but as much as I like Supras I'd have the M3. Maybe it's the appeal of the rarer (in this instance, turbo M3s aren't seen every day) car, I dunno.
once they both get traction the race seems to be pretty even but the bmw looks to have difficulty pulling from the start hench the supra pulling away... race should be longer too, they never seem to get into the full swing
Those cars are freakin fast. I have been in a turbocharged 91 GT that made 722 rwhp and the car was crazy. Never personally owned a car with that much power, but that might change.

Nice, love em' both but i think I'd take the M3 home if I had the choice, luckily I won't have to be making that one!
@Nosillla Which car here is an automatic, the supra? If people are referring to the SMG as an automatic then that's just ignorant in general.
These are my two favorite cars!! :P
awesome seeing them race
@turbomoore Very good point. What I get for responding after a third shift work night. I'm just not convinced an auto would be a giant advantage in anything but hitting the strip, defiantly not cruising with the lack of OD.
what kind of grill is on that m3? the straight lines look mad clean better than that milkcrate woven style smh
sick rims on the M lol
are those CSL reps?
well no, you said the supra has a superior platform compared to the M3 and i argued that it doesn't and to go fast in a straight line doesn't take much.
What's the fastest Supra time in a mile?
Is it functional or is it just designed for a standing mile and has super sized tires in the rear?
th400 gearing 3rd gear is your top gear and a top speed of 140-160mph depending on tires and converter tightness.
4:32 why is your mirror rectangle shaped? my e46 m3 has a like rounded out kinda rearview mirror.....yours looks like the one in my sisters 330xi
I hope this beautiful machine still runs and drive around gapping supras today
so sick...cant wait for my stage 3 to get here!
no man just the rims everything else is mint!
@Echo81Echo yep. I was never a import guy until I bought my 98' Supra, I started working on it and swapped the TT for a T78 Single and I fell in love.. haha. Its not even the power of the car that gets me, the sound of it when you really get on it is amazing. =)

@maxinator39
Why would there be paddle shifters on an automatic ? automatic clutch maybe
did u film with a calculator ore something in the supra?
yeah they do, there are a few vids that show the mod done on a manuel.
hpf stage 3 on m3 is just simply a beast and thats no stock supra
Well, I agree with your statement about Supra's in general. However, in this matter it seems that both cars seem to be on par with power and there is a slight indication that BMW has got the upper hand but because of its low profile tyres it slips and takes a bit of time to either keep up with the supra or catch it and pass it eventually.
yes but reduced weight will also reduce traction, no matter the power or weight a good set of tires will make the car hook better
is that 10k just to buy the kit? or for work included?
@wowshiqptar wow, like a manual would have made that much of a difference. He walked on him and kept pulling. Give props where props are due, both are great cars.
How to you keep your engine so clean?
THanks
same with BMW, revs like a vacuum cleaner, it has valve setup from the factory the faster it goes, the faster it will go.
how is the supra for average people when it costs 3 times as much?
Where was this at? Looks great.
These are the best of the best 6 banger that will put v8 to shame easily
anything can beat most "super cars" if you lay enough boost to it.
@TransAMClutch what don't you like about them?
why is a supra with a 3speed trans and obviously a loose converter doing freeway pulls?
@turbomoore I've seen 500hp auto's get drug by 450 standards. There are a few ways to negate that little advantage of full boost shifting. I suppose in an import with a smaller motor and giant turbo that suffers from massive lag it would be the case though. I understand what your saying though. Why have no auto's run mile events?
@willrdixon
ooops sorry, what i meant to say was does a e46 come with a turbo stock?
And so begins a new era of straight 6 turbos. Supra had a nice run but for the next 15 years we will all be talking m3 turbos baby!
I love supras but I prefer m3's seeing a modified m3 keeping up with turbo supras is just amazing.
Yea true....the thing i dislike about super cars is that you cant really modify it much just add Turbo and some other stuff thats about it.
by the way this is a stage 2, maybe even a stage 1. You can tell by the intake mainfold, if it were a stage 3 it would be making much more power.
sounds lovely.
WOw hold, on does a e90 m3 come with a turbo stock?
It's so intense when they meet up at Taco Bell :) but over all sexy cars I love the sound of the bov!
Bro the haters don't even know that is a sick ass car. anyone who says anything about your wheels or whatever probably drives a corolla and likes to hate on nicer cars
do you know how much a supra cost over 35 grand for one with 60000 miles
all that power....with an smg....poor transmission...what kind of upgrades are there for that transmission?
Two questions 1. why are some people saying that the Supra won? It ran out of stream on virtually every run. First run the M3 was spinning its wheels in every gear. Although I love M3's... nothing can beat a supra that's tuned right. pound for pound, Supra's are some of the best 1/4 mile cars
@yogd4life what don't you like about them?
cool video but why is bmw with over 700hp still using piping clamps? tig weld people
@WBAAC11
TH400 is a GM 3 speed auto box used in very big bhp auto supra drag cars.
@AhmedThaking
i wouldnt say the supra is a "cheap" car by any means. it may be an import but try finding one for less than 50k in good condition.
The reason is like u said. the Supra is just waiting to be unleashed. The m3 takes alot more to bring out its potencial. Boost for boost the m3 will make more power with a wider power band but the Supra you can simply up the boost past the m3's capacity. i also agree. Though Supra's arent bad handling cars either but M3's have great handling.

Both are great cars, Supra gets head turns because it's a rare car to see but that BMW is so damn sexy, a bit to over-done for my but still... WOW.
Supra FTW. There's something to be said about a car you don't see every day. Well, unless you own it. Seeing an M3 is like seeing a Civic. Both cars were well built but an automatic Supra is nothing to laugh at. The constant boost played a big role here.

lol.
yes, there is.
even the smg's have a clutch; it's just not your typical, third-pedal clutch.
hows the gas milage?
@nighthawk0077 no SMG
@WBAAC11 .. they have a 2 speed automatic in rl... there used for the drag track
2 small turboes make less turbo lag, so better throttle response, but a bigger turbo gives more power once it spools with more lag, and twins dont dissipate (if thats how its written) heat very well, so there again you lose power, someone right me if im wrong...
Damm! Thats a crazy Beema.
can you get the m3 turbo from the factory
whats the horse power on the supra?
Ahh blown straight 6 power! Now all you need is someone with a tuned FPV F6, or an R34 GTR
I like both cars, but I would go for BMW.I never had another car but BMW.
actually given the popularity of the supra the prices are the other way around, realistically you cant have a turbo supra for 25k. how much hp has supra?
DREAM CARS!!! it would've been a better race this supra against a hpf stage 4,im not sure who would've won!!!
Faaark that M3 is nasty!
I dont like the rims much, but at least they show a lot of the caliper's and rotor's.
A supra!,
I remember them from years ago.
They have not aged well, good job its fast as you would not really want to be seen in one nowadays i guess
You're right, stage 3 hits over 900hp, driver needs to kick the shifting right, and the m3 would fly!!
wow, that was awesome
DREAM CARS!!!
i love both cars. id rather have the supra but then again girls would rather be driven in a bmw than a toyota
M3 needs better rear tires. An adjustable rear wing might help too.
The M3 is freaking fast....crazy power a nicely done by HPF.
But the Supra with the TH400 is putting the power done much
better and that's why it beats the M3...
At the end the Supra it's just the roll race King!
Infact i do believe the driver of that Supra ive met....and hes in a wheel chair. Nice guy!
Since he was ragging on the bimmer for having paddle shifters, yet the Supra is Auto...
why the hell would you leave the supra automatic
why dont you bluebook it?
m3 for life
Crazy cams on the supra
@aigaleada because 99% of the time when 1 looses its not properly built.a hpf m3 is a properly built m3...a t74 right away is a no no then runnin 27psi? that air is going to be hot as hell.not to mention a 3 speed? theres 8 sec supras that use the stock 6 no need to change it.

This is good, they respect the road. but it would be better to try those fancy cars on track.
