That's a fundamental issue that MUST be discussed with an authority figure in Christ. What it means is there's a stronghold of fear of his mum ruining anything with her which is wrong. She must not treat it lightly. Simply put, he has lit a candle and is hiding it under a bushel....That's ungodly.
