    Cardigan is Betty’s perspective years later. Taylor said in the long pond sessions that in her mind James and Betty stayed together. Another pair to check out are ‘tis the damn season and Dorothea. They are each told from the perspective of old flames, Dorothea who left the small town for Hollywood dreams to return years later for the holidays, the other from the old flame she left behind…. Thanks for your reaction. And we’ll save the Kanye conversation for a later date once you get into her reputation songs….he did a very bad thing…. Twice.. if you react to his song famous…you’ll start to get the idea. Also, The documentary Miss Americana will shed some more light. Or maybe Swifties with better typing skills than I will fill you in. 😉 Thanks for your reaction!

    glad you got through the famous folklore trilogy! Betty really hits within the context of the full album, as it provides a moment of relief in the midst of a lot of pretty melancholic tracks. listening to it also provides a big "aha" moment towards the end of the tracklist, as you realize those disparate songs you heard with a few connected lyrics were a part of a huge teenage love story. connecting imagery to look out for in your next re-listen of this song trilogy is betty's cardigan, augustine's car, the streetlight, and betty's front porch. you cannot escape becoming a swiftie, it is inevitable 😈😈

    The "worse thing I ever did" was that James cheated on Betty with August, since we know that all three songs are connected.

      That's what I was thinking too. I alluded to it when I said I didn't think things went too well. Thanks for clarifying.

      Loved it. Now there are 2 songs about John Meyer.
      They dated her 19 him 32
      1st song Dear John
      She wrote back then.
      Would've Could've Should've
      She wrote in 2021.
      The same age she was when 32 John was then. Taylor reflects even more regret and hurt from it as an adult.
      These songs really prove why Harvard will Be have A Taylor Swift Music and lyric study course.
      Folklore Album is all story telling. Song Margy is about Taylor's Grandmother who was an Opera singer who has passed they put her singing opera in the background singing with Taylor.
      You should also react to last Album Midnights Song Your're Losing me It has Taylor's own Heartbeat in it .
      It's about her 6 year relationship before Travis.
      By the way you connected with Betty so much because the ex boyfriend helped her write it in James perspective under an assumed name.
      Wow Thank you I am an older Swifty I am up on all of her songs.
      There are easter eggs an double meaning in her songs and music videos.. I will catch you up.. ❤

    haha yes, this song is one of her sweetest, genuinely feels like a 17 yr old boy singing. So imo, he cheated on Betty cause she was dancing with some other guy in the gym (2nd verse), and then Augustine met him while he was coming back from the gym and then they had that summer fling.
    And according to Taylor, Betty forgives James.
    And I'm so happy you appreciated the 'last time i can dream about' line, a lot of people overlook it.
    great reaction coach!

  • @underdog138

    My in-laws were British and "garden" is what they call a "back yard" in the US and Taylor has been using "garden" in several songs in the past few years. Example: "And I snuck in through the garden gate every night that summer just to seal my fate" from Cruel Summer. In Betty he's asking her if she will tell him to go away or invite him inside to the back yard to talk about their relationship. if I had to guess it's because Taylor's then-boyfriend was British and it was a stylistic choice. I know a lot of British-isms snuck into my vocabulary over the years from my ex-wife so I get it.

    Loved the reaction. I need to go back and see if you’ve listened to any country-era Taylor… She wrote those when she was younger, and it shows, but the fact she wrote “The Outside” when she was 12 just astounds me.

    • @pigskinpoetry
      @pigskinpoetry  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I did "Love Story," and "Tim McGraw." You can check those out. Is "The Outside comparable to those?

    • @MoyaoftheMist
      @MoyaoftheMist 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@pigskinpoetry “Tim McGraw” was written in her freshman year math class. “Love Story” is a bit later on. “The Outside” and “A Place In This World” were written at 12/13 but recorded around when “Tim McGraw” was. They’re not romance songs, which is a reason I think people don’t give them much playtime, but they were big favorites of mine when I was in high school (I’m about Taylor Swift’s age).
      Not sure if I’d call them comparable? If you want a much more definitively country sound (at least to my unpracticed ear), probably you would want “Picture to Burn” or “Should’ve Said No” (in the style of songs like “Before He Cheats” and such).
      “Our Song” is my daughter’s favorite, though. Apparently Taylor wrote it for a school talent show. I can tell you the songs I wrote for talent shows were nowhere near as catchy 😂
      Did I answer your question in there somewhere? I’ve been sick, so I think I’m a bit incoherent.
      Oh, one more side note: Taylor Swift actually grew up on a Christmas tree farm! She’s got a Christmas song that talks about it, and on folklore she has a song (“seven”) about her childhood there. I recommend the Long Pond Studio version with the interview beforehand if you watch that one. (The farm is also briefly mentioned in “The Best Day”, an adorable song she wrote as a present for her mama.)

    Fun fact: James, Inez, and Betty are Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively's daughters. They had another child earlier this year and have yet to reveal a name or whether it was another girl or finally a boy. When this song came out, this is how the world discovered Betty's name.

    • @Violet316
      @Violet316 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@pigskinpoetry No, Taylor used their names for the characters, and this is how they announced Betty's name. If you ever listen to a song called Gorgeous, James's voice starts the song by saying Gorgeous. Taylor had played it for their family and James kept saying it, Taylor thought it was cute and asked if she could use it. Pretty sure James received compensation.

      Do the lyrics change? Or do they just bleep it like I did? I don't mind words, but if I'm putting it on my channel, I try to keep things PG 13 because my young sons watch my content, and my students so as well. I honestly had no knowledge of their beef until people started commenting on it. I did the Kanye reaction because my students were asking me to do a hip-hop reaction, and I asked if there was one that wasn't overloaded with foul language, and that's what they recommended. Strike it up to weird coincidence.
