The RCO lag from Marths up b in brawl was so brutal. It lasted so long that if you were DDD and baited out an up b and shielded it, then grabbed him before he landed on the ground you could get a guaranteed down throw to buffer F smash. Whenever I was able to get that in tournament before lots of people knew about RCO lag, the Marth would get so mad that they got smacked by such a slow move and couldn't do anything about it. It also helped that it was easy to bait out that up b by purposefully doing DDD dthrow chain grabs slightly slower than optimal and just shielding when you hear them mashing lol
Non Johns Just as failing to actually do work on the game itself so that there shouldn't be any updating in game? sure. I'll take that as "best game ever". but I'm used to it. after 16 updates.
Although it doesn't matter too much, RCO lag also happens after your character does an Up special into a barrel cannon (which is something very common in the 3DS mode "Smash Run") Some interesting things to note about it is that if Palutena does her custom up special, the Jump Glide, into a barrel, she will be unable to perform it again until she has touched the ground...which is really weird because most other characters can do their up specials again after using a barrel.
You know I have realized how many times me and my friends have done this but had no idea we were forcing RCO-Lag onto each other. It is interesting how many things you happen to do i.e. dash dancing before it was covered by you guys, and you don't even know it until someone covers it.
The section about storing RCO lag by using special moves to land reminded me that Falcon can actually give himself RCO lag. If you use the up B's command grab on an opponent and land with a special, it'll be stored. I dunno why this happens but that's why landing with an up air is optimal lol Perhaps this happens with Ganon too
I agree, if only Nintendo added an unbalanced mode, in which nothing is balanced, most character´s moves become more powerful and with less start and end lag and some broken changes to some special moves of most characters, to make them work almost (if not exactly) like their original games they come from.
No one wants that, Bobsican. But yeah, this game has dumb reasons for being complicated, like the untechable spin that may or may not happen, but only above 100%. Honestly I'm pretty sure everyone would prefer that be consistent and always happen above a certain threshold instead of RNG determining whether you live or die.
Tom Jackal: I do, and a few do too. The only bad part of that mode is that Yoshi would be broken if his regular special letted him throw you out of the stage, Kirby would be able to kill anybody by just swallowing it, almost nobody would be invincible while they do a Final Smash, and more......

I recall in Brawl, characters who got RCO lag could get it just from grabbing the ledge with their up special. I also know that both Captain Falcon and Ganondorf received it if they grabbed someone with their up special and that carried over to the Wii U version as well.
I think teching is probably the best way to get out of this on a flat stage, but with platforms I'd say platform cancel an airdodge. Or, if I'm playing Toon Link, I platform cancel a zair after boomeranging.

So is RCO storage a bug? Usually storing a property of something and having it come into effect much later than usual isn't intended, but at the same time RNG dependent untechable spins are also in the game, as well as nairs being done by a diagonal input on the right stick instead of pressing it on non-Gamecube controllers for some reason. This game doesn't appear to be designed with intuitive mechanics and controls in mind.

Let's say marth or someone tried to get out of one of lucas' combos or I'm in the position to give someone RCO lag, can I as Lucas drag my opponent down to the floor with his n-air? Does it still give them lag even tho its multi hit? And by drag down I mean drag the opponent to the floor without using the last hit of nair that sends them flying
No, though using a move with higher knockback will generally give your opponent time to land with an aerial. Spikes at low percents are a noteable exception.
vyQ Well, how about a video about the most useful and optical locks, like jabs, and the better locks. that could help newer players, teach more advanced ones, and could make the video shorter.

Oh! That was in brawl as well, I believe. It's as simple as it looks. It's when a move/hitbox of the move barely grazes your opponent's hurtbox, and its almost like .... imagine friction if two blades scraped by. There would be a spark, right? That's pretty much the idea.

I thought something like: "NOW I CAN FINALLY PUNISH TRUE SHORYU WITHOUT RISKING GETTING INSTANT SHORYU'ed WHEN HE LANDS" and then I realized that even if Ryu suffered RCO lag..... it would be next to nothing since Shoryuken has next to no landing lag......what a sad twist.

I'm not 100 sure, but in theory it should work since RCO lag is stored until u stand on the stage again or grab the ledge.
