The sadness you can clearly see, eyes looking for someone to help me, I always think about does and the way they look , my friends think I'm mad CALLING big mastiffs to me without knowing the dog, but been around dogs all my life you pick up on some stuff that let you know if you can approach, like the mastiff I was just going to say, lead on his neck walking beside his owner totally relaxed, if he was pulling on the lead , that means that the owner just has not trained it right, but most dogs , if you call it like when you play with a puppy, 90% of the dogs go back to playing like a puppy, I don't care where I'm going, if I'm in my Sunday best, if I see a dog and call it I'll let him push me down, it's just because they want to play on there level, this is what I believe, they remember that, HERE BOY , COME HERE, AND THE OWNER DROPS THE LEAD YOU KNOW IT'S PLAY TIME, IVE MISSED BUSES N TAXIS, SAYING I'LL FOLLOW YOU , BUT THE TAXI DRIVER WILL WAIT BECAUSE THERE DOG LOVERS TOO....

In 1941, when I was 4 years old( I'm dating myself here) the Japanese invaded Burma. My grandfather, a retired British Police Superintendent, my grandmother, my mother, our four Indian house servants who were our family, and my grandfather's 2 dogs "Bobby and Talkie", both mongrels, trekked the 200 odd miles to the border of India where RAF cargo planes airlifted us to Calcutta, now Kolkutta. My mother and our house servants took it turns to carry me putting me down on occasion to walk a hundred yards or so to give their arms a rest.
My father and my mothers three brothers stayed behind and fought the Japanese. Ever since, as I grew up, I've had dogs. A Dogue de Bordeau, a Pittbull, a Cocker Spaniel, 2 King Charles spaniels, a mini dachshund, a Doberman, and a Pyrenees mountain dog. They've all passed over the past 30 years. I'd love another but am afraid it would outlive me and end up in a shelter. If you own a dog, even cats, treasure them. They don't come better than that.

I can tell you exactly why he chose that porch while the family was gone: he could literally smell that that was a home with HAPPY dogs.
Dogs can smell emotions to some extent. This is why they are commonly afraid of the vet's office, even on their first ever visit -- as soon as they enter the building, or even just the parking lot, they can smell the fear of all the other dogs that have been there.
That porch smelled like happy dogs. So it seemed like a safe place to hang around.
Credit to the lady and her family. Her two other pups evidently live such a good life that they're broadcasting it to other dogs.

He made a genius move when he picked this household, these foster parents. They were so good with him, as were their own dogs. I hope he's doing well with his permanent owners. It's amazing how quickly this depressed, wary, stray dog took to his new interim family. So adaptable. His life depended on him properly seizing this opportunity. Lovely to watch him blossom. His foster parents are so good with their pets. I hope they have kids some day.....they'll make great parents.
