CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Marv (Mickey Rourke) finishes off the twisted Cardinal Roark (Rutger Hauer).
FILM DESCRIPTION:
The Eisner Award-winning comic series Sin City comes to life in this live-action feature adaptation from director Robert Rodriguez and creator Frank Miller. Interweaving multiple storylines from the series' history, this violent crime noir paints the picture of the ultimate town without pity through the eyes of its roughest characters. There's the street thug Marv (Mickey Rourke), whose desperate quest to find the killer of a prostitute named Goldie (Jaime King) will lead him to the foulest edges of town. Inhabiting many of those areas is Dwight (Clive Owen), a photographer in league with the sordid ladies of Sin City, headed by Gail (Rosario Dawson), who opens up a mess of trouble after tangling with a corrupt cop by the name of Jackie Boy (Benicio Del Toro). Finally, there's Hartigan (Bruce Willis), an ex-cop with a heart problem who's hell-bent on protecting a stripper named Nancy (Jessica Alba). Featuring a who's who supporting cast that includes Elijah Wood, Brittany Murphy, Devon Aoki, and Nick Stahl, Sin City promises to be one of the most direct translations from page to screen of a comic series, with shots and dialogue adapted straight from the original comic's panels. Rodriguez quit the Director's Guild when they refused to let Frank Miller co-direct the film, a deal hashed out after the two collaborators developed and shot the opening scene utilizing a green-screen process to harness the stark, black-and-white look of the books as a litmus test for the rest of the production. Quentin Tarantino was brought in and reportedly paid one dollar to direct an extended scene between Del Toro and Owen that amounts to one issue of The Big Fat Kill miniseries.

-"What the hell do you know?"
-"I know it's pretty damn weird to eat people."
Awesome comeback.
That's Marv fer ya.
I was just thinking the same thing. XD
Back to be a great day
Really? "well it's weird", that's a comeback for you?
My God.
@@RadioactiveSand you must be fun at parties
"The killing, no. No satisfaction. Everything up until the killing... will be a gas."
Leonidas Riverson It's sick to eating people! (Marv)
Not gas... gasp.
"Kevin we going home"

@Primordial Remnant Yeah, apparently.
R.I.P. Rutger Hauer 1944-2019
One of my former colleagues have the pleasure to meant Mr Hauer too a interview for his magazine .. pretty cool 😎
He's not dead.... Surely not. What?? 🤔 FO. Cant be true. Hes a bloody legend ffs
I donno this guy but I always felt like he killed it in this scene
that's some great acting
He improvised the tears in the rain monologue ❤
Roy batty ✊🏻
They missed the best part:
"I'll stare the bastard in the face as he screams to God.And I'll laugh harder when he whimpers like a baby. And when his eyes go dead the Hell I send him to will seem like Heaven after what I've done to him."
I Love you goldie
That’s the line that stayed with me.
He actually did eat their souls. Kevin was an actual demon so the director says.
Steven Hunt Frank Miller said Kevin is an evil spirit while Miho is a good spirit
Something about how he views mute people as super human or something,
@@emperorleachy6435 Miho is so cute:)
SIHA: YOU KNOW, YOU SHOULD STOP CREEPING AROUND COMMENT SECTIONS LOOKING FOR HIM AT MIDNIGHT. YOU DON'T NEED A GIRL THAT BAD.
Are you telling us Marv is also a demon slayer?
" _Eliminate me. Will that give you satisfaction, my son?_ "
I can't imagine anyone else deliver that line but the late Mr. Hauer.
Christopher Lee?
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Rutger Hauer always had a way with words. A fine actor who didn't always appear in fine films. Bladerunner and The Hitcher were two of his best. RIP
You forgot Blind Fury and Batman
Nemesis...
Please watch Lady Hawk (1985). Trust me.
I forgot about Flesh and Blood (1985). Definitely for the Rutger Hauer fan!!!
Hobo with a shotgun!
Oh my god I forgot how much I loved this movie. And the coats. Such damned fine coats...
Itss the jackkkett!!!
@@jakep1979 the jacket... The jackett!! Yeaaah, the jacket...
I still have a leather coat like those I bought it in the 60’s. Very kool

I love the look Marv gives Roark when he tells him that he joined in on the “ feedings “. Like this sick SOB’s really going to get it now😂
And also the look on Roark's face when he finds out he's gonna get a lot more than simply eliminated.
You can scream now if you want to.. you can say what you will about Marv but he got manners.. okay screw up manners but still manners .. 😊
It's a depraved city and the Roarks are the worst of them all. Even Marv is taken aback.
Out of all the villains, Cardinal Roark is probably the only one who's definitively insane. It's not like his gleefully corrupt brother, his psychopathic brat of a nephew or so many of the corrupt cops in Sin City. He comes off calm, collected and normal talking about murder and cannibalism. As if he doesn't know what he's doing is wrong, and really thinks it a holy act. He even shows compassion towards Kevin, like a surrogate son. I can't begin to imagine what he experienced in Korea or whatever war he fought in to make him like this
John Porteous always felt like marv was in the war
@@nicholash1691 naw marv is too op.
I'm guessing his and Kevin's relationship went beyond father/son dynamics...
@Terror It meant those people were evil or something unnatural is with them Miller described it as they have demons inside he called Miho to be a good demon while Kevin was evil one
Good thing Johnny wasn't like either of them.
Two actors that perfectly filled out their characters. Hot damn that scene is great.
The creepy organ music when Roark tells Marv about how he first met Kevin is just great.
The music starting at 1:30 reminds me of the Mickey Rourke movie Angel Heart
"When his eyes go dead the Hell I send him to, will seem like Heaven after what I've done to him." My favourite Marv line.
"I know it's pretty damn weird to eat people."
R.I.P. Rutger Hauer.
The comic is a MASTERPIECE
The movie is a MASTERPIECE
Do you need more?
neeeed more
yeah i need cheaper prices for them comics, Miller's work is sucking my wallet dry
This master is a COMICPIECE
@@growingstruggle5493😂😂
No, we did not need more.
These best is when Marv says "You can scream now if you want to." His walk and the music is badass it can give you goosebumps.
Rutger Hauer was such an underrated actor. Rip.
He was not "underrated" at all, do you even know what that word means? Rutger Hauer was a huge movie star.
It ever occur to anyone that Rourke crushing Rutger's skull is a weird tribute to Rutger crushing the doctor's skull in Blade Runner? I just thought of that.
Carotid artery
Rourke kills Roark. xD
:v
Kee-rist! You just whooped up the makings of a PhD thesis!
:-/
Mickey could easily have done an entire movie franchise on that character. Amazing role!
I would definitely go see a Marv movie.
@toddboughn5168 It would be cool if he did one with Superman too. You can combine their names for the title. Marv-El.
The killing no, no satisfaction. Everything up to the killing--will be a gas. RIP Marv
what does he mean by that? Can you please explain it to me?
Eulen Gesicht He means that torturing the old guy will give him satisfaction, not the simple fact, that he dies.
Hangman108 thank you :)
Marv doesn't die?
omfgnoobswtf He seems pretty dead to me, after the electric chair scene.
Rutger got screwed by Hollywood.
He is an unbelievably great actor and he has such a voice and a look-in personality for roles.
It is such a shame he hasn't been in more
If no one has watched his role in lexx in the episode "pattern"you're missing out. Is amazing in that episode
If you haven't seen the movie "split second". Do so
Lexx is top tier sci fi, such interesting writing and acting
I always thought he looks very similar to Colonel Kurtz.
As over-the-top wacky as it is, I also recommend "Hobo With A Shotgun". Especially his monologue to the babies.
Rutger Hauer invented menace itself.
Uh no offence but you do know he’s unfortunately dead right!?
This is why the graphic novels and this movie are so brilliant.
In all my years of watching this scene, I never noticed Roark's eyes as he's describing Kevin eating people, start to get colored in and glow. I don't know if it's a callback to the same scene in the graphic novel, but it's interesting.
The graphic novel is purely black&white (black ink, white space, no gray). In the movie they made brilliant use of Rutger Hauer's unique eye colour and his expressive eyes. Great casting choice for this role, still sad he's no longer with us.
@Pack a Punch Rutger Hauer, he died in July 2019, after a short illness.
@Pack a Punch Yes, he was one of the greats. 🌟 Just watched Blade Runner again the other day.
You're now in home Rutger. RIP.
Rutger Hauer was the GOAT of giving monologues to the middle distance.
Split Second, Lady Hawk, Sin City and Blade Runner just to name a few. Thank you for great roles and movies. R.I.P. 🙏🏾
This scene was so much more brutal in the comic book. It wasn't visually brutal, but in the comic book Marv mentally narrates how as he brutally tortured Roark, he laughed so hard he cried, as Roark screamed in agony.
Roark should have known better so he ultimately reaped what he allowed by letting Kevin commit almost unspeakable crimes. Marv's retaliation made Hartigan's vengeful acts against Junior Roark seem more restrained though not by much. Neither Marv nor Hartigan had much time with their enemies.
did Roark die during that before the cops game? Or did he survive?
A face to face between two of my favorite actors. I love it.
Mickey Rourke was born for this role.
RIP Rutger. You will be forever missed.
I do believe that scene of Elijah Wood's 'head' on the table, is the best acting he has ever done. He should've won the Oscar that year....or...erm....his head anyhow O.o
Damn, always made me laugh so hard
Yeah, his head was in the right space!
His acting was a bit stiff
Sometimes, a head just can't get ahead
He should have been more headstrong.
I love the dark theme contrast! The holy man is the villain and the thug is the hero. It doesn't get any better than that. = D
0:47 is where Mickey Rourke kills it with that look in his eyes.
Hauer forever! An immortal actor, he'll live forever in his great screen work! We miss you.
I'll tell you one thing. What goes around comes around.
The guy who plays Cardinal Rourke played Roy Batty in Blade Runner.
In Blade Runner, Roy Batty crushed a guys head with his bare hands.
In Sin City, Cardinal Rourke gets his head crushed by Marv.
Do the math.
I'm well aware dear sir. It's just ironic that the actor who did the head crushing got head crushed. Do the math.
I understand entirely. I'm just saying that it is IRONIC, nothing more. Do the math.
4 years now and no one did the math in the comments, im sad.
@@infiniteinmystery35 there's literally no math to be done. The phrase was way out of place here.
@@Joseph-cp6du let me have my fun, they just kept saying do the math just for the hell of it and i found it hillarious lmao
Marv is the definition of badass , a hero who must be worse than the evil himself .
The way he says, "And I JOINED IN" *chills*
Siiiiin.... sin city wasn't made for ya
Rest in Peace Rutger Hauer
Mickey Rourke, man. Thisguy canact with no words. Justy look at his eyes here, guys.
A legend has passed Rutger Hauer you were the man 😞
RIP Rutger Hauer, the legend.
That's why i like Marv. Even if his history is connect to a mystery, he really don't care about any man motivation. It just crap for him. He disconsidered everything the old man saids and laugh about like a really bad ass.
No, actually he cared what the old man said, he wanted to know why Goldie died. He even answered: "I know it's pretty damn weird to eat people." He didn't began his torture right at the moment he came in, he listened to the old man patiently.
Of course, the bishop fully deserved what he got, don't get me wrong.
Laughing at other's people motivations doesn't make you a bad ass, makes you stupid and shallow. And the character of Marv is just as evil as any other in the movie.
@@RadioactiveSand Hence why they all stay in Sin City, there are no good people.
@@RadioactiveSand well duh. "Sin City"
@@RadioactiveSand🐂💩
This comic series/movies touched on the taboo subject of treating prostitutes like human beings who should be loved and protected.
Actors come and actors go, and when they go everyone comments about how underappreciated they were and how amazing they were. Well...
This is one of the cases where it is absolutely true!
The Final Boss in Sin City
“And I joined in.”
Vengeance pierces through Marv’s eyes.
Just this small scene with Rutger and he delivers those lines perfectly. The pauses and sinister looks he gives Marv.
Oh, Father Time. Father Death. Rutger Hauer, in the bloom of his health, and strength, convincingly portraying a brutal murder in Bladerunner, long ago. Only to be the convincing elderly, deserving victim of another strong man, years later. The years take everything away but the memories, like tears, in rain.
RIP Rutger Hauer
I love the Micky part best small story ever.
Such a gentle soul, rest in peace Rutger.
you know whats more frightening than this, knowing that this isn't far from the truth.
Idk y but I cracked up when he said “helpless...old...fart.”
RIP Rutger Hauer great actor
the visuals and cinematography on this movie, are damn brilliant. such an underrated film series, i wish they did well in the box office.
This movie is very under rated.
I loved the twisted Blade Runner reference...
The dialogue in this movie was next level!
Legitimately one of the best movie performances of all time and i wont hear any gruff about it
1982: A ruthless avenger (Rutger Hauer) rides an elevator to the top of a pyramid, in order to smash in head of a morally corrupt scientist and businessman.
Blade Runner (5/10) Movie CLIP - The Prodigal Son (1982) HD
2005: A ruthless avenger climbs a spiral stairway to the top of a tower, in order to smash in head of a morally corrupt cardinal (Rutger Hauer).
I saw the parallel as well. Just came here from the scene where Batty murders Tyrell. Genius.
Rest In Peace Rutger...Rest In Peace.
The best comic adaptation to a movie!
The best way to beat Marv in a fight is really simple...
.....Run. And don't look back.
"... Kevin, we're going home".
Estas líneas de Hauer son tan inolvidables como las que él pronuncia durante su agonía en Blade Runner.
Me pregunto a qué clase de paraíso irá con Kevin.
Paraiso infernal
Rutger Hauer. They wanted Walken to play Senator Roarke, but he turned it down.
It's nice of Marv to let him scream if he wanted.
1:05 she truly is a Goldie 😍
Amazing dialogue in this scene.
0:52 This is the moment Marv realises that no matter what he does and how long he does it, it's still too good for Roark.
RIP Rutger you made this scene special.
I love me a bit of Rutger so I do, he enhances every movie I've seen him in.

Rutger Hauer was an amazing actor.
Even in this scene Rutger was great RIP.

The music that creeps up at 1:28 is like the music from Angel Heart with Mickey Rourke.
Great acting.

He died today.
I've always wanted to see thanos in black and white
RIP Rutger, we will always remember you....
Roy kissing Frodo's head. That's just disturbing.
A higher level of fascination.
Roark:...heaven has lot more fire than I thought it would.
Rest in peace, Rutger Hauer. Damn you were good. And creepy, too.
RIP Rutger Hauer.
For a guy who survived so much i really doubt an electric chair could kill a demigod like that.
They did need several tries.
Rutger Hauer is so brilliant at playing bastards.
You can by his words and face, he’s seen things most people wouldn’t believe.
Rutger Hauer was AMAZING in this. They all were.
RIP one of the best
Absolutely dark for someone claiming to be full of light.
I _fucking_ *love* this movie from the top to the bottom of my heart, and I love this scene, because of Marv's final call.
"Eliminate me.
... will that give you satisfaction, my son?"
cue ETC.
All that is _so beautiful_.
