Thank you for this video! I knew about the basic web page for Yamaha receivers, but this is a hidden gem! Makes adjusting settings while I'm using REW to calibrate my speakers so much easier. I can't believe it took me this long to find this out, and I'm pleased to say it works with my older RX-V683BL. Again, thank you!

Excellent Presentation. This is a fantastic receiver, that drives my 7 Revels and 2 Svs subs. A thoughtful interface to have for any adjustments you may want to apply. Thumbs up to Yamaha, a beast of a receiver, and more importantly, a salute to Gene for providing is know how and expertise on the subject.

I now have my RX-A8A since last week and this web editor is absolutely powerful. The editor is the key to hundreds settings as it allow you to change everything for each specific use with the "touch of a button", the 8 scene buttons that is. I installed firmware 2.03 thru this web editor and have no issues. The learning curve is not easy because there is no online help for the web editor. But the more i learn how to use it, the more i find it incredible. I can tweak settings i never taught possible on an AV receiver.

Having a web portal to do fine tuning and configuration like this is wonderful! So glad to see web-portal configurations come to home A/V receivers. Hopefully ALL companies will be doing this exact same thing with their products as well. (Now that Yamaha has made this move, they really kind of have to if they want to stay competitive)

agree! See my very similar comment on API/integration and maybe even an open protocol to interact with for new GUIs, better integration with smart homes etc. Onkyo, Pioneer Elite and Integra's new line of avr has web GUIs with basic and very CI type setup interfaces. Exciting times, if only the logistic situation could be resolved...

Gene, appreciate the detailed overview and, in particular, your explanation on how to go about setting up dual subwoofers. I have a second sub on the way and was unsure of what setting to select. Also your explanation on how to utilize Extra Bass for two channel music was very helpful and has resulted in a noticeable Improvement in the lower end.

Gene, you asked “Who uses a tuner anymore?” I do! Quite a bit as a matter of fact. I even bought an HD tuner for one of my receivers because receivers don’t come with HD anymore. Don’t know why they don’t because it doesn’t cost hardly anything to add it.
For DSP, I’m like you. I can do without most of them. I usually don’t listen to music in a German bathtub.
Glad to see Yamaha has really stepped it up on their latest receivers. Still want Auro 3D for music though.
    Thanks for the video. Informative.

Patiently waiting for full HDMI 2.1 features.. and hopefully Yamaha can fix the issue Gene has found in his preliminary testing. I like what gene from audioholics is doing and educating people on audio devices. Even though i can't afford what he reviews but its always fun to know and get information about audio gear. When i first bought an aiwa walkman cassete player in 90's the audio was so good that today even when i own a flagship samsung phone it doesn't produce that level of audio quality.

Excellent video. I have A6A, is my second AVR and the first Yamaha. I am impressed with the features. I use only the app, which is excellent I left the command behind.
I use A6A for music, streaming Spotify, the interface is simple and effective is simply wonderful. I have 2 SVS SB3000 and Kenwood Subwoofers with + 25 years of 50 W but YPAO wonders I do not find any difference in the two and the color they brought to music was extraordinary
For video I only use the Surrond Ai which is fantastic.
I am very pleased with A6a. Well there is the question of the power that the Gene has very well put when there are several channels in use. But it must be for this question that the multichannel amplifiers enter. Thank you Gene.

BTW, the Yamaha Web Control has been available since the Yamaha Advantage RXA-840, 1040, 2040, 3040 models and beyond (RXA-x050, x060, x070 & x080). This newer GFI (graphical user interface) looks slightly more user friendly … with those slider controls … but as far as I can see all the same features are available. It’s one of the reasons all my AVR’s in my house are Yamaha’s, besides Yamaha’s known rock-solid reliability. Yamaha’s YPAO PEQ may not be accurate as Denon’s/Marantz’s/Anthem’s Audyssey … or so I’ve been told … but with the Web Control I can fine tune it to a cats whisker, after the first 5 or 6 sweeps, and listen to the changes I've made in real time, till I’m happy with the changes/results I’ve made. Great job as usual Gene.

This is an absolute game changer. It's just a shame I had to find out about this option through this video (which I am very grateful for). One thing missing though is that yamaha could include more information in the interface. For instance, what is the difference between overhead speakers and dolby enabled speakers in a 5.1.2 config? Also... Some of their naming conventions could do with some explanation as well.

  • @jamesharris5879

This is an incredible tool, and the best thing about it is that it updates the second you change it. This means I can leave REW open and run a sweep, quickly change something like sub distance or crossover points and run another sweep to compare. This is soooo much faster than using the remote in the settings, plus when the settings are open on screen it blocks my view and makes it hard to use REW. One thing it is lacking is a real time readout of exactly what signal you are getting. You can access it with the on screen menu but when you are using ARC or EARC you cant see the onscreen menu. The info tab should be able to show Video and Audio inputs in real time. Sampling rate, bitrate, ect would be really helpful. I use the phone app to see if the receiver is receiving DTS HD, Dolby TrueHD ect, or the on device screen, just wish it was build into the web interface.

Gene, the wait to see the measured performance of this amplifier is agony! I understand that you are waiting to see if Yamaha can make improvements, however, this is taking too long. Please consider releasing measurements showing the performance with the current firmware and by all means update this information if/when Yamaha are able to improve matters. Many potential customers are delaying purchase until measurements (and hdmi 2.1 firmware) are available.
This receiver has many very interesting features such as the ip control, but it seems to me that the main USP is the xlr input and output for the front stereo pair. Performace of this will therefore be especially important.

  • @Spark010

Really ice overview, I'm looking to upgrade to the A6A. PEQ is looking more capable compared to my RX-A1060. Would love to see a few mew bands and more frequency increments in the drop down, to enable 'fine' tuning. Now Yamaha have powerful FPGA onboard, I'm sure they could make this happen in a firmware update.

He Gene. I have all speakers populated, and yeah, the height speakers makes all the diff. The DSP fields I love are Jazz Cellar for jazz. Hall is good for simple music or classical quartets, trios, or solo instruments when reverb works. Church is good for organ music like Handel or some symphonic music...but hall is good for that as well. But by and far I listen to Jazz Cellar most of of time... It fills the entire wall with realistic sound and lifts the soundstage as if the group is on a two foot stage.

    • @rolandw181
      @rolandw181 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hi Wayne, are you using both speaker patterns on your 3050? If not, you can just create your own 'mono soundbar' with pattern 2: select 3.0 configuration (all other speakers disabled), increase centre level to +10 and decreas left and right to -10, finally select DSP programm 'mono movie'. Of course fronts are still playing, but you will mainly hear the centre

Appreciate your comments and expertise. I purchased the A6A replacing (relocating) a Sony ES sound processor with 2400 watts (yep) of separates in December 2022. The web app is sensational! I let the YPAO do it's routine, then tweaked a few things to my ears. Also am using a separate main channels 200+ RMS per channel and obviously an amp for the massive subwoofer all driving a 9.1 arrangement. 100% Klipsch except the house shaking sub. The YPAO flawlessly figures out each speaker location and what is driving it. As for center speaker spread, that would be a excellent addition for fine tuning a particular situation. The Yamaha RX A6A is sound perfection and excellent AVR for my home theater.

I own the RX-A8A, and I would like to have the Center Spread feature! Also, Gene, please ask Yahama when they will enable the 4K/120 and 8K/60 updates? One other issue that I have with the A8A is the delay in sound when playing movies. It doesn't matter if I switch out the HDMI cords or devices; I get a sound delay of 5 sec while playing content. Also, ask them about the IMAX Enhanced DTS feature. I have the IMAX Enhanced DTS on my Denon 4500H, but I find it interesting that Yamaha doesn't have it.

Center spread is normally hidden on Yamaha receivers, unless you're using one of the "analog" surround codecs, like PLII Music, then you can use the "options" button on the remote to locate the option to tweak it. The setting is not global, it's stored for each codec separately.

Newbie here, thank you Gene, I Liked this critical important video for Yamaha. (why doesn't Yamaha make such for their customers?) ,this gives me a great understanding of tweaking the sys and very helpful to get the sound ideal .. New owner of the A6A, still tweaking my 9.2 setup on KEFs 950Q series not quite happy with set up yet, hopefully I get it slick. I. previously owned the latest Pioneer Elite SC-LX704 also has individual speaker EQ, which is in a bar graph form, bit easier visually to see, but you have to cancel out of the entire system and then reenter to program mode, (not a web editor) which makes it tedious to adjust. (the Pioneer shut down after 7 hours of heavy use in audio, beautiful sound but returned it... now trying the Yamaha if its better for me>?), I hope the Yamaha web editor can be accessed while listening to adjust, havent done this yet so I don't know yet... for me it would be better to adjust with graphic bars ,or even better; like a true graphic tools with adjustable digital pins displaying actual frequency visually, ( just like the interface of a profesional digital soundcraft mixer board for each channel), that would really be next level pro set up.

@@kemarislimane It did, sort of. I Think it is the older application, as it doesn't quite look like Genes which he said is the newer look. The settings are a bit tricky to find, but they are all there. It is useful for changing some things and renaming things using your keyboard. For example, I programed all the local radio station pre-sets as my wife still uses the radio from time to time (mostly to win concert tickets). Other settings I prefer to change on screen. This may be useful when i start doing my room eq. Got a mic on the way.

Just upgraded from a Yamaha RX-A1080, and overall I am very happy with A6A - however I found out the center spread is missing from my new receiver. Please help us bring back the center spread feature :)

This may sound like a dumb question, but what are the differences between the web interface versus just downloading the app control? I guess music cast app that you can download through the App Store

Nice, looks like I can unplug my HDMI monitor from my RX-A6A and use the web interface instead. No more HDMI handshake issues.

Yes, check my other videos in this series. There are some issues on some of the channels that I informed Yamaha about and they are working on figuring out what the solution is. It's possible my unit is defective and it may not be a modelwide issue.

Hi - I have just purchased an rx-a4a, have it configured, and would like to back up the config. In my web interface, on the “other” tab, there is no backup option. Do you know if the backup feature is available anywhere else? Thanks for all your videos on these units. They have helped me understand a lot.

Great video and thanks for the efforts, Gene. One question: is it possible to set different speaker distances and speaker levels for separate scenes? My goal would be to have one setting for the MLP and one for a multi seat scenario.

I love the PEQ feature but I wish it had more bands available and a separate GUI. It's much easier to adjust Q when you can see it. I can have 9 active band of GEQ on my Onkyo but they're all fixed and factory set frequencies which totally sucks! All I can do is adjust the gain but not the width or the frequency and it really really sucks! Having a web based GUI sure would be nice since I run my whole system from a PC, everything audio and video starts at my PC, but, I also run video at 120Hz. Can this Yamaha do that? I know HDMI 2.1 is rated for it, but can it actually do it? I'll explain.
I use HDMI 2.0 from a Nvidia RTX 2070 graphics card and I run at 120Hz. However, I can only do this if I run from my graphics card direct to my TV, my Onkyo receiver will not pass though a 120Hz signal apparently or it's not capable of doing it, one or the other. That's why I ask, can this Yamaha actually do it? If it really can, I think I'd be tempted enough to switch brands.
    Cheers 🍻.

Is this official software by Yamaha, I can't find the software, only links and videos about it. This is exactly what I would love to have for my AVR over using the Musiccast or the manual setup. Just got my RX-V6A 2 days ago. I know it's not top of the line but the specs seemed to be the best bang for the buck (at least here in Norway) for $800

Hello, I am the happy owner of a RX-A6A (europe model, excuse my english). Althrough i am very happy with the quality and features of this Yamaha "beast", i am surprised to experience missing features that would have been obvious to improve the user experience. It especially concerns the access to playback informations :
    - During playback (watching a movie, for example), the "?" key on the remote seems to do just nothing unless you already are into a menu. I would have enjoyed to be able to pop (on and off) the onscreen "Infos" pages at any time, without having to dive into the MENU or assign the "program" keys to that specific task (and therefore loosing the native function of that key) simply by pressing "?".
To that extend, it would have been very user friendly to be able to quickly edit the audio/video/... properties of the actual audio/video source simply by navigating into those "Infos" onscreen pages. Or at least le major audio features.
    - The front panel of the Reciever shows the SURROUND:AI when it's activated. In the same way, i would have liked the front screen of the unit to show the "Enhanced" feature estate (at least when it's on/engaged). I'm kind of missing an easy access to that info and have to activate/disengage the "enhanced" feature to find it out, witch is unpleasant. Once again, the info is accessible through the MENU, but that's not very intuitive to access a simple information.
    - I love the new design of the AVENTAGE Recievers, but i often unwillingly press the RETURN or MENU (CONNECT) touch buttons that are just below the Selects/Enter Wheel. I would have loved to be able to choose (in the Setup menu, for instance) if those touch buttons respond to the first touch (one clic) or to the second touch (touch to activate, then clic).
Congratulation for your great videos and work.
    Cheers to YAMAHA.
    Take care.
    Rémi

"Center spread" please and I don't mean Playboy, although that would be a nice feature.
Gene great video Thanks. I only get Straight mode when playing a DSD disc through my oppo 105 and Yamaha told me it doesn't decode DSD but yet it shows it in theA6A spec sheet. Maybe you could ask Yamaha about that.
    I've got the A6A.

Can I power on/off the reciver from this web interface? Is it also possible to change inputs from the web interface? Basically I want to switch from Audio IN 1 to Audio In 2 etc. from them web. My use case is that the receiver will be out of sight hidden in a cooled compartment so switching inputs using the remote will not be possible.

I had a question about about the 4K/120hz update that was promised in February 2022… it’s March now and there hasn’t been an update… do you or anyone else on this feed know when Yamaha is going to actually going to release the update?

Not sure if I want to use this. Too advanced for me. One issue I am trying so solve is that YAPO detects my B&W 601 bookshelf speakers and center LCR60 as Large. These are 2-way speakers. I have a sub connected. I also dont like how the sub is pictured on the left. Not sure how literal that is, but mine is on the right, so it bothers me that it cant be changed. Also, every time I run YAPO I get different tweaks to the db boosts/cuts. What too is disturbing. I went Yamaha over Denon/Marantz/Onkyo/Pioneer/Integra because the product looks better built internally and the front panel looks fresh. Wondering if the sound adjustment tool should have been a higher priority.

Great features you shown us again. You know if they will update the CX-A5200 soon to be 8k with these features? Watched that review yesterday and it got me wanting that combo CX and AX5200

The CX5200 will never be 8K. It is HDMI 2.0B. Impossible for it to be HDMI 2.1 I was going to buy the 5200 but wanted 2.1.

So I got the A6A instead. Really love it. I tried the A4A but missing features important to me. I really don't see the A8A for $800.00 more than the A6A. Unless of course you NEED 11 channel amplification.

Great video. I had no idea the power (or complexity) of this receiver. Question: On my A6A, if I run spotify through a sonos Port into the receiver it shuts off after 20ish minutes. But if I run spotify through Musicast it'll run forever without any shutoff problems. Has anybody else experienced this? Also, is there any way to access Zone 2/3/etc controls through the musicast app? Since running into problems with Sonos I was trying different zones, but it's a real pain to have to go into the server room and adjust volumes on the different zones throughout the house. Sonos has this nailed for non-audiophile people like me (and definitely like my wife).

Silly question, can/did they update older (a2070) to work with new interface? Like you said PEQ bands need to be way more accurate. I do have a MiniDsp on the way..
to answer your question at the end, have been using this interface, makes it much faster to enter in settings tuning with REW
