Darts are always breaking down 😂😂 where i live, we have a dart, owned by Arriva, with the same issue, registered GN06 EEB. This dart takes absolutely forever to start 😂😂
Pour cold water on fuel pump stop fuel atomising. In diesel pump common fault in hot weather when engine is stopped, after cooling pump engine will start
dunno why the driver kept lifting off the starter just as it started coughing into life, should of kept the starter spinning to try and force the engine into running on its own steam. In all honesty I wouldn't be surprised if the driver was putting an act on, seen lots of drivers do it. Just deliberately let off the starter just before the engine goes "Oh look at that its broken down". Either that or he was trying to provoke a known fault on the bus to occur - again by deliberately letting off the starter too soon until the bus legitimately refuses to start.
Not sure how it works on one of these, but if the engine thinks it's running it'll stop the starter motor from spinning to prevent damage - pain in the arse if you're trying to get it started. Could possibly be a similar system on this bus?
The darts were legitimately great buses but with fundamentally inferior mechanicals, and while the engine was good, the gearbox and the starter were absolutely terrible so they'd either start slipping out of gear or wouldn't start up at all, plus with the way some of them were driven they developed some serious overheating issues too and that sealed their reputation and fate
Haha! Such a great comedy video! :-P You'd never get this sort of thing down in London, that's why I love non-London buses - the driver and the passenger have a kind of relationship. Writing this halfway through and can't stop laughing!!! Subbed!
Jezza M I know that is soo true, I couldn't stop laughing myself it was a very interesting experiance. Thanks for for the sub it is much appreciated I have subbed back.☺
I can see why Dennis Developed and made the Enviro200 as a replacement for the ageing Darts 👌 Darts were one bus I grew up with being born in 91, always love the way their 6 cylinder engines sounded, The ones Arriva North West had were Marshall bodied but first had some Plaxton bodied dart's too, From what I remember, they'd frequently break down even when they were still fairly new, Don't know why they were unreliable though as the 6 cylinder Cummins B series is a solid engine, maybe it was the Alison gearbox or the electrics that caused their poor reliability, the Alison box sounded good though 👌
Thank you for the subscriber, nor have Streetlites been a thing for starting up, or not catching fire, or working at all, or trying to not look like a frog, used Streetshites are coming to where I live, which is particularly annoying, but also fun because I can insult them when they break down, which they will break down in a weeks notice.
Venomous. Your welcome, certainly agree with you there about Streetlites and starting got plenty of videos on my channel of them struggling to start.I quite like having streetlites round here as well at my local Arriva Depot as I can see what they are like for reliability in fact there has been one sat VOR for the last two weeks now because of overheating problems.
Amazing how unreliable they are, only running for Thamesdown right now, on the 14 in Swindon, which somewhere in Swindon is where I live, I know where my local Thamesdown depot is but it is quite far away, it is in the town centre of where I live and I don't live in the town centre, I never know what is going on at bus depots, because I never visit them but I'm conscious about the buses running to where I live which are currently Enviro 400s and 200s, and the occasional 2007 Trident, if a streetlite comes on my line I would start using it more because it would be bound to break down, and the line that goes to where I live is quite bumpy and hilly, it also goes through 3 miles of "middle of nowhere" and as a plus sadly none of the buses where I live break down, nor sound bad or show any signs of problems, I probably would have a go at filming the Thamesdown or Stagecoach depot, that might be quite interesting.
Venomous. My local depot has Five Wright Streetlite Max vehicles Three are fitted with the Cummins Engine and Two with the Dailmler engine both Engines in the Streetlites have proven to be terribly unreliable, with one of the Dailmler Examples having to have a New Engine Refit earlier this year at just two years old. They are awful to travel on as well especially when hills are involved.
We had these in east anglia way back, most likely the early days of first group or first bus as they started off.. Denis darts were terrible show them a hill they'd bog down and have little power then brake down minutes later .🤣🤣.. credit to the driver for seeing the funny side of things.....
Used to loose the 24v feed to stop solenoid on fuel pump, I used to take a feed from the rear tail lamp bulb holder on to fuel pump, tell driver to keep side lights on
Maybe your Diesel Engine goes on high temp. There is One Thing You MUST see: The Radiator Cooling fanblade still not move! (This is no good,, There is somting wrong my friend.) M.V.H Frode Valderhaug
Its The Alternator That`s At Fault,Soon As It Starts Charging It Disconnects The Starter To Stop It Being Burned Out.Slacked The Belt Tensioner And It Will Slip Allowing The Starter Motor To Run Longer.
Was 2001 the time when the 3.9 was in the process of replacing the 5.9? I've driven both and the 3.9 seem to go better although a bit vibey due to being a 4 cylinder.
The Gaming Masters aldo & nic Yes it eventually started, an Engineer said it does it every Lunch and he said it needs to have tension moved of one of the parts in the Engine in order for it to start.
@@exploringnortheastbuses60 Hey there! I'm currently having this starting problem with an old Optare bus I bought. You said above that the engineer applied tension to a part of the engine. Have you any more details? They'd be really helpful for me! Thanks
This may not be to do with video.but why can't buses idle yet trains with engines under every carriage get away with doing this?have you wokey world savers thought about this.?

Oh man love that cranking and sputtering. I could sit there all day cranking that and struggling with it.
Most of the darts are fairly old. So I can see why they won't start. The engine from the outside also sounded very knackered.
ours is 1998 and runs fine
The day u go on a bus and the bus thinks to it self fuck this I don’t wanna work give me a break lol 😂😂😂

Why can’t they bring another bus instead of trying the engine when clearly it’s not going to work or phone the bus company and get the bus mechanics
Great video she really didn't want to start sounds like a 2005 Dart
No she didn't!!!! Lol, makes for a great video though. Thanks for your kind words.
I know eh? Always the 2005s
We've fitted bigger fuel pumps on our 5.9 and they go like the clappers.

The only thing that'd do is murder the starter, the starters on these Darts aren't great.

warren6815 possibly. I know that a lot of more modern buses have such a feature
Had a dart do this to me previously before the starter motor stops when it thinks the engine has started, very frustrating

Someone pulled the emergency engine stop.
Blimey, it’s knackered!
That is without a doubt a 3.9L 4 cylinder, it sounds like it? I’ve never heard a 5.9L 6 cylinder sound like this when starting up?
5.9 Cummins diesel
Early DAF LF45's had the same engine but different starter motor. Never had any starting issues.
It's a dart. Not surprised!
Just had this problem with a old 1999 optare solo. It just cut out going over trent bridge and wouldn't start again.
Maybe your Diesel Engine goes on high temp. There is One Thing You MUST see: The Radiator Cooling fanblade still not move! (This is no good,, There is somting wrong my friend.) M.V.H Frode Valderhaug
If the driver had kept that old darts engine staying running he would’ve been away
Some of the darts at our depot were like this & only way they we could start them is from the back
Poor old girl is going to have a broken starter at this rate
Dom757200 Goes through plenty of them.
Give it a DAMN GOOD THRASHING!
brilliant vid I love Dennis dart start ups
Thank you greatly, I find it especially funny when they don't start LOL.
Exploring North East Buses same
@@exploringnortheastbuses60 I love buses
The sound they make when starting or the part after?

Judging by the offside rear somethings peeing out of the bus.
I remember these darts being a bit of a pig to start when they did work
Other one for the scrap yard or fix
6bt not starting how rare must be electrical issues
It was either old or it just quite simply ran out of fuel
4 cylinder engine darts are shit better off with the 5.9 6 cylinder. Sounds like the fuel filter is blocked or its sucked air into fuel system.
Knackered injectors always have problems with these
Alot of 4cyl Darts don't like starting from hot.
a few dennis darts for sale in widnes at the moment
A 3.9 litre engine is kind of small and underpowered for a bus
Fine in lorries as they weigh less but not too bad in Darts depending on it's gearing.
Haha yeah it seems a bit small, especially considering when your cheap 1999 Ford Falcon family saloon car has a 4.0 litre!
Long story short, no it didn't
Fuel pump problem?
Did the bus get towed?
I like it it is very awesom i would like to have one of my own it not srarting would be nice but only for me•
This could take about a year to get this started
U need to wait for the beep to stop and then start the engine i think
galaxygamer 12 pretty sure the driver knows more than you
Beep could be for low air pressure so it would never go out
Was the battery flat
The reason the bus wont start is because u don't have it in park or the park brake on or foot on the brake pedel
Dodgy capitulator valve, or the fretzen needs reverse flushing......
Turn the engine of for five minutes
Air compressor or self problem
Cummins 4BT ? 😵💫
sounds like the starter motor is jammed or the fuel pump is broken
Was 2001 the time when the 3.9 was in the process of replacing the 5.9? I've driven both and the 3.9 seem to go better although a bit vibey due to being a 4 cylinder.
September 2001 i think.
Oh dear.
The poor bus
Lol that lady at 0:15
Ye
Actually, the 3.9 is more powerful than the 5.9. The 3.9 is rated at 145PS and the 5.9 is rated at 125PS.
driver: WTF
Love it!!!!!!😁🤔
I don't think Allison darts are in a good shape. Voith and zf ones are fine
RIP…
a good bus comes at a high price deary. this bus fails at impressing me
I thought it might start but no great video
The Cummins motor in this isn’t the most reliable :/
It works fine in a lorry but not in a bus because they get trashed.
No need to attempt to start it for 5 minutes because if it wasn't going to start after the first couple of attempts, it won't start at all.
Did it start or Did it have to get picked up?
The Gaming Masters aldo & nic Yes it eventually started, an Engineer said it does it every Lunch and he said it needs to have tension moved of one of the parts in the Engine in order for it to start.

The bodywork on nearly everyone one of these, is terrible
Idk if the bus driver is pedal pumping it?
I think he isn't. My guess: his foot is on the brake pedal.
In singapore all the dennis darts were scrapped
It could be the immobilizer is broken
Just needs a lungful of brake cleaner :)
pump that pedal
Got to give the driver credit though
David Avery Oh Yes definitely made it a great experience.
Bus group and the other one 1⃣ the same day and
Ecu controled rubbish like all modern vehicles what was the problem obviously not getting fuel
No its an old bus and because its old its harder to maintain and they tend to break down more
@@crownjulesgaming542 what was the problem ?
Thomas Catford I’m not sure it’s probably just wear and tear over time or poor maintenance
@@crownjulesgaming542 its not an old bus if it was old it would have a gardner or leyland engine if it turned over 1 compression it would start
