I think AIB will keep the PowerPoint sub-community alive a little bit longer considering It's probably the biggest object show we've had in like 2-3 years (I mean episode 1 has a million views). Granted AIB's animation is of such a high standard that It's hard to classify it as a powerpoint show at all so there's that to consider.

This is an incredibly well thought out video about the OSC, and I definitely agree with the eras you have come up with!
It's been an incredible honour to be part of this community, let alone for this long.
Your message at the end certainly speaks to a lot of us who have been here for a long time, that includes me as well. I think that's something truly special to take away as more of us spend more time in a community and we see each other grow up and face new challenges.
Thank you for this retrospective video!

And now we're in the holiday object show era,
where shows like The Christmasly Object Show, The Lovely Object Show, and The Almost Valentinesly Object Show exist with the sole purpose of releasing a new episode once a year. However, they all have a small number of contestants, ranging from 5-8 people.
Man by the end of 2022 we're gonna have an object show for every holiday of the year

I honestly miss a lot of old powerpoint object shows.. even though I wasn't there during it's prime it's still kind of sad to look through all of the lost and abandoned object shows in general. As of now the only ongoing powerpoint object show I can think of is AIB, and it's kind of cool in a way. Like the last remaining kind of an almost-extinct species of object shows.

    Honestly, most object
shows, like BFDI, would probably make people get inspired by this idea. Some have the same animation, some are different. Object shows are mostly made in Sony Vegas or Adobe Animate, but some animators wanted their show to be low key, because storyboard, voice acting, and making the episode are hard parts of the episode. The creators work hard on their show, but some get cancelled, because the creator doesn’t want to continue them. IMAO, some shows are different from each other.

    heyup, golden era viewer here.
looking back, bfdi and inanimate insanity were key factors to my childhood. as i had discovered them even before graduating the fifth grade. the series were so memorable that it shaped me into the person i am today.
this video was incredibly made to signify the key aspects of the osc from 2010 (maybe even earlier, given fireys comics) all the way to modern shows such as ONE. and it provides a good overview of the osc from its prime, to its pitfalls.
and; you're very correct, 2010-2016 ogs are very hard to come by, especially ones who arent creators of shows themselves.
anyways, lesson told. the osc has been a tremendous part of many peoples lives, either if they joined during the release stages of bfdi, or joining just last week. its certainly been a journey for me, seeing the community growing in ways and maturing their content. and i look forward to seeing more creators in the future taking their own creatives spin on the once traditional object shows.

I literally watched the first episode of bfdi in 2016 and binged the whole thing later, when I then found out about II I was really confused why their was this fan made version, but watched it anyway because I was really into bfdi. Now I'm just now finding out this is it's whole genre, and even has a whole damn community. As someone who's known about bfdi for years, it's kinda mind blowing

Oh, thank you so much for this video, it really helped me, because it's almost a year that I'm in this community. I really like the object shows, this is a very interesting phenomenon on TH-cam, but unfortunately even this year I still know too little about it... However, I'm fixing it.
Learning something new about this community and getting to know new shows is very exciting, like their history is already 12 years long, wow! But unfortunately, I have a feeling I got to know this too late. Although, even if it is, I will still hope that this community will flourish for many years to come, and new shows will be no less interesting!

I've been in the community since 2012 so almost 10 years! It's crazy how much it's evolved and changed, almost to an unrecognizable point for me in some areas. I wasn't very active in it for a couple years at a time but always watched shows when they came out. But to me, the powerpoint and camp era still feels very recent haha but I guess that makes sense since I'm completely out of the loop with the timed era stuff and a lot of the newer popular shows that have come out. I thought my time in this community was over but I've recently started a show again and I'm excited to be apart of it for more years to come! Great video by the way!

I joined the OSC when I watched
BFDI 14 back in December 2018. It felt nostalgic even though I had never seen it before. I was hooked and proceeded to watch the whole series, I then discovered Bfdi Weekly and Inanimate Insanity. Bfb 13 was taking a while to release so I took a break from Object Shows until in July 2019 when I heard that episode 13 was coming out soon and was back into the OSC and discovered even more classics. Now I am 13 years old and currently working on my own object show and I’m really impressed with how far this community has gotten! It’s insane that two young twins managed to start an entire community filled with thousands of shows and people. Thank you Cary and Michael as well as everyone who read this long comment. (Unpopular Opinion ,but I really liked Post-Split)

2012 - 2016 is in my opinion one of the best eras for Object Shows (probably because that’s when I started), but we have to give props to Object Redundancy because it tries to make an object show for adults (of which kids watched because the format is an Object show, which had been around before it’s creation as a kids thing). It’s 10 year anniversary is next year, and I’d hope to see something from them.

Glad to be here since 2014. Ever since 2014, I wanted to make a show of my own, and each time I tried and failed, I left, only to return a year later. This pattern continued for 7 years before I was able to finally settle down here. Even though I've joined other communities, like the Caretaker community, I found a way to bring the object show charm to it. It's mind-boggling to see how I went from just doodling in PowerPoint in Year 3, to running 2 shows of my own, in Year 10. Let's just say that if you want to do something, never give up on it. You'll succeed.
Cheers guys! And here's hoping I'll stick around for whatever comes next!

2011 - 2013: *Golden age and glory days of BFDI object shows* and the first time I discovered and fell in absolutely love with BFDI and other object shows like Inanimate Insanity in 2012 when I was age 9
( I left BFDI and the OSC accidentally by huge mistake around 2014 or 2015, most likely due to the BFDIA 6 hiatus that was potentially caused by the end of the mayan calendar from December 21st 2012, returned to the OSC in January 2021 )
2020 - 2022: Might be the worst years of my beloved object show community but still lucky of still having great potential and has at least been very fortunate not becoming toxic like most fandoms on the internet these days...
*2023 might be the last chance of redemption for the OSC object show community*
My 9 year old self from 2012 and my 10 year old self from 2013 would be very sad to see what society and the internet would become over the next 10 years of the future, and especially sad that these terrible times are trying to harm my pure beloved object shows and BFDI... 😢😞

I joined just before the BFDIA wait. I had from late 2013 to early 2017 of what I'd say were the golden age, as the main show was now Inanimate Insanity with BFDI seemingly gone for good. it Still had the most views, but left a giant power vacuum causing hundreds of amazing shows to sprout.

I joined during the PowerPoint/camp era. (More specifically, 2015) I've seen quite alot of camps during my first years in the OSC. And I'm even making my own camp made with PowerPoint. It's called Object Crossings. And it's inspired by Object Crossovers. Because Object Crossovers was (and still kind of is) my favorite object camp of them all. Hopefully my camp will save the PowerPoint object shows. And if any of you who see this comment are interested in joining my camp, please let me know.

This is actually a very well-made timeline, good job Nev!!
Also, believe it or not, I came into the OSC just before BFDI season 2 ended, so I'd say the end of the Golden Era. It feels odd being in the community for so many years now and seeing so many new shows crop up over the years. It feels really odd from being only a viewer and voter way back when to actually being a lot more involved within the Object Show Community. I meet so many new people every day and see so many new ideas get pitched or born all the time and I'm glad I grew up knowing this community.

I remember I joined the community by Open Source Objects. I'm pretty sure I saw Blob somewhere and because I found characters with dot eyes and no mouth cute I got curious, so I searched it and found OSO. I watched the episodes there where by that time and just didn't look more foward, but after a new episode came out I realized there where more shows simillar to it, so I searched which was the most popular one and continued with BFDI, which had already ended a few months ago (BFB 30) so I watched it entierly. After BFDI I watched ONE, which got me really interested in the community since I found out that object shows could be really really interesting, and after that I watched Inanimate Insanity, confirming that (II 2)

I joined the community since 2019,after I saw carykh video about JnJ hit 1B total views (back then I subscribed to carykh, never knew that channel also is the owner of JnJ since 2017 until 2019)
I watched BFDI 1a as the first object show episode I watched, surprised? After that, I watched BFB post-spilt then II, then some older object shows. After BFB ends, I "left" the community in June-July 2021 due to thinking I watched too much. On August, I slowly rejoined the OSC. First object show after I rejoined the OSC is Chaotic Ambition (October 2021),then Burger Brawl (didn't watch it much),and now OSO.I'm thinking of making a new idea of object "show" inspired by Yekateria/ERK Novosti.

I owe much of my best memories on TH-cam to this community. I still remember waiting for each new BFDIA episode to drop. I don't really watch object shows anywhere near as much as I once did, but it is nice to look back on everything and see how much the OSC has changed through the years. Also, I was wondering where camps went, cause I feel like I never see any, I guess they're usually on Discord now, huh?
