youre making amazing detailed reviews with fact backed data and the proper tools (such as the $300 laser tester) to make educated reviews. thats huge when a lot of people just throw around their opinions. keep up the good work its awesome to see
I had the same issue with the handguard that came on my Adams Arms P2 .308 AR10. I'm pretty sure they use a Samson handguard. I ended up taking some shim stock and put it inside the rail grabber. Once I did that, all the wiggle and teeter tooter went away. I ended up replacing that handguard with Adams Arms newer AARS handguard. That version didn't need the shim stock, and the NGAL mounted up nice and tight by itself. Haven't had any other issues at all with the NGAL. Say what you want, but I'll take it for the price I paid. I am eager to see your video on the IS-EG NGAL model. Also, do you have any plans to do a review of the IS MK4 NGAL?
It doesn’t wobble at all on my sig mcx. I really do believe it depends on the rail. I’ll have to throw it on my mk18 to see if it’s as rock solid on the RIS 2😊
It may be a chinesium “toy” but it’s certainly a way around the whole night vision and aiming device gatekeepers. I can’t justify paying an arm and a leg.
It makes hits under nods and holds zero not to mention its full power unlike those gay nuetered civilian lasers. So the gucci queers can overpay all they want Idc ill use the money i saved on ammo to actually train with
Mine is still going strong after about 750 rounds.. banged it on a door frame a week ago pretty hard and it still is holding zero. Pretty impressed with this thing…
I have enjoyed the zeroing process of my Somogear NGAL. Telluric makes zeroing targets for the NGAL. I bought a pack and got to work. (It was too much fun to really be work. Honestly, I just enjoy shooting.) I was looking for the actual (functional) filters but have not found any that are sold to non-military/non-law enforcement. When I used the unit with my ATN X_Sight ii HD, I could not see the difference in adjustments made to the illuminator. Having said that, though, I saw some rings in the ATN scope and those rings got wider and narrower when turning the knob. I did not experience the rail wobble that many others have experienced. All in all, I am really pleased with this purchase. Thank you for your coverage of this product,
I’m glad you found this video helpful. Thanks for sharing your experience. Somo should pay me commission.. I’m sure my vids are selling them lots of units lol
Well, this makes me feel better about the one I bought yesterday based on other reviews. Thank you for the followup as it is always nice to get more data and more use beyond initial shots.
I’m not saying their QC is perfect, but you have pretty good odds of having a very enjoyable unit for the money. Their customer service seems pretty solid too. Not sure if you saw my initial review but I reach out out to them about the lack of hardware for the pressure pad, and they sent it out right away.
The longer I use it; the more confident I am in telling people it’s one of the best options for under $500. Would I take it to war? Absolutely no. Will it be a phenomenal flat range toy? HELL YES.
@@4MRRanch when you say you wouldn't take it to war, is that's because you don't trust it's reliability? Or because you have a few better better LAM's
@@lINORSEMANIl I would take this over no LAM, but I would not default to a clone as a primary choice. The somogear is not waterproof, so you’d have to be careful in the field to not water log it.
For the mouting issue, I wiggled that metal clip under the flathead screw abit with finger and then it fit and tightend perfectly on my MCMR 10 handguard
One point I also want to make about the offset between the IR and the visible laser is more a question than anything, and it's when are you going to be shooting anything at distance with the visible laser anyways? I'm far more concerned about the accuracy of the IR laser, since the visible laser is only important to me for either marking for squad mates or for CQB.
Well ideally if they were perfectly co aligned you could zero either with your optic at 100+ yards, making any offset negligible as you get closer and also not having to use night vision to accomplish this. I still don’t think it’s too bad for the price point
Yeah I agree that being able to daylight zero without having to put guesswork into it or use special targets is a big factor in visible lasers. But I'm just saying it's not a deal breaker since I would be prioritizing the IR. I think that the new gen 2 ngal (if that's what you have) is starting to look like a good option for people on a budget. I run a full power PEQ and I love it but that's two grand a lot of people may not have. @@4MRRanch
Nice work sir, I have one and I'm very happy with it :) it's much brighter than most LAMs, I put it up against my friends mawl and the somo was a lot stronger even on low, some people may not like that, it can potentially autogate your nods but for longer range illumination and spotting it's great.
I appreciate your help in appealing to the almighty TH-cam algorithm. I was honestly curious to know the specs, and hadn’t seen anyone actual take one for the team and buy a meter lol
I get where you are coming from on the offset, but tolerance stacking is a thing - and that's something the market would want to consider if they are cutting corners in other places. Including bloom.
Thanks for your work man.. I got one based off your other video. It is on a Scar 17, holding up so far after firing with it and slamming it onto a railing really hard a bunch of times (if it's gonna break it's gonna break now!). After sending back a Steiner for warranty I was up for trying new stuff.
I contacted somogear about the mount bc I had the same issue. They sent me a new mount screw asap and it’s rock solid on all of my rails with very little torque.
Excellent content. Is there a specific rating of protective eyewear to protect against IR lasers you recommend or are any generic laser eye pro acceptable.
I just got reviewing a SMSlaser XK68 IR, I'd be really interested to see what your tool says in terms of laser output. I can send it to ya for review if you want! Great vid!
Would love to see this. I can send you mine too. I jb welded my mount to the unit itself. If you wanted to factor out the shift of zero between the mount and the unit, this is the way to do it. Its held up pretty good to a few drop tests I did. It looks like sms is working on a new version of the xk68 where the mount is built into the unit, lower profile too.
Fantastic data points, earned yourself a sub. Is beam divergence adjustable for the IR illuminator, like on the PEQ15 (1-105mrad)? Would also be awesome to know the measured beam divergence on these NGALs - it can be directly measured (pain in the ass though), or using beam profilers/wavefront sensors. Not sure if that device you have is capable of measuring it, but would be good data nonetheless. The 16.8mW peak on the vis laser is definitely stronger than the peak of the PEQ15, but not all that concerning if you’re not viewing it directly (shining into your eyes) or firing it in a highly reflective environment. IIRC the peq15’s vis laser is 5mW (standard laser pointer limit), its IR laser 27.5mW, and illuminator 45mW maximum - that’s admittedly from memory though. But yeah, this thing definitely falls into class 3B territory, lol
Yes the illuminator divergence is adjustable. I compare it to a couple illuminators on the initial review that’s on my channel. This clone can’t get super tight or super wide, but is an improvement over their peq 15 clone
Oh, I apologize for being confusing lol. I was referring to the basic ngal from spec precision, the one with no upgrades. @@4MRRanch I've had the L3 for just under a year at this point and the Somo for maybe 4 months. The illuminator is really the winner for the Somo since it is vcsel. It will also damage your eyesight at this range if too much bounces back.. hence why people need to be careful with “full power” lasers. I was wearing laser safety glasses under my NV while filming this.
The way I look at it is that these devices are for passive aiming, signaling, and target ID, so if it holds zero and is good out to 100yard, why not get one.
I have retaken the IR illuminator value in a more effective way, and the new value is 16.57 mW
