As someone who uses the underground+overground almost daily, one of my personal favorite lines is the jubilee, it offers a lot of connectivity to the center of London. At least from the north west

    • @chelseacomps829
      @chelseacomps829 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Need jubilee to extend into the suburban south east parts of London. Right now you have to take a southeastern into London Bridge. Maybe extend it to Lewisham or hither green, Lewisham for more connections tho

      @RCassinello 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Half right - the bit we call the Metropolitan line now was mostly built as a commuter railway, but it was the Metropolitan Railway (as it was called back then) that started out as the first underground railway in London, running from Paddington to Farringdon on what's now the Hammersmith & City. They also built most of the eventual Circle Line - clockwise from South Kensington to near Tower Hill. (And of course, the District Line started out as a just an off-shoot company of the Metropolitan to prevent risk to investors)

    • @TalesOfWar
      @TalesOfWar 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@RCassinello It also has the most architectually impressive stations of the whole network. You can tell they were built in the great train era where they were all trying to outdo each other and impress their customers rather than it being utilitarian like most of the other lines. Baker Street or Great Portland Street are probably my favourite from a purely aestehtic point of view.

The Waterloo & City line isn't for people living in Waterloo, it's really for people who commute into Waterloo on national rail from elsewhere in the country and they get the Waterloo & City line right into the centre of the city. It also gets very crowded during rush hour, so it definitely does serve a purpose

If you think the Bakerloo Line trains are old-fashioned, I remember the 1930s ones which were still used right up to the mid 80s. They had strap loops hanging down to hold on to and the seats were so old all their springs had been crushed, so you just sank right down into them.

    • @TalesOfWar
      @TalesOfWar 3 ปีที่แล้ว

I wonder if they'll get new rolling stock if they actually get around to extending it? Which has been something they've talked about for practically a century lol. There's so much they could link up that side of the river and let's be honest, the south really, REALLY needs better links. I know it's harder and more expensivce to dig the tunnels there because it's gravel rather than clay but it's really sad just seeing how run down most of it is compared to the ever changing vibrant north (which is ironically rerversed on a national level).

    My rating:
🥇Jubilee line : I love its noises a lot and all the stations it goes to especially Canada Water, Green Park, Bond Street, Wembley Park, Canary Wharf, Canning town & Stratford. I mostly use it from Canada Water & I use it the most on school trips and while I've been growing up, I've used the line a lot.
🥈Victoria line : I like its noises but its very crowded and there's no seats and it does not have much stations but I still like it.
🥉Piccadilly line : It goes to Heathrow Airport and Piccadilly Circus and its the only line that goes to an airport which is good
4# Circle line : The route is nice for me and its best buds are Metropolitan, District and Hammersmith & City
5# District line : It goes from east to west and its the line with the most stations
6# Northern line : I've used this train 3 times on school trips but the sound of it is not that high level
7# Hammersmith & City line : I've only been to 5 stations on this line
8# Central line : Temperature is bad, especially in summer and the looks of it need to upgrade
9# Metropolitan line : I've used this train on a school trip 1 time and its air conditioned which is good but it goes out of London where I don't mostly go
10# Bakerloo Line : I like the way how the seats are but its so old looking
11# Waterloo & City line : To be honest, What's the point of this line anyways? Its the least used line. This line needs an extension from Bank, I recommend it should go to Liverpool Street then into other cities. If it was like that, I would probably have it at number 6 or 5.

    11. Bakerloo Line - Ugly scenery, incredibly old rolling stock (half a century old!), doesn't really connect much places (extend it to Watford and Lewisham and it would be so much better).
    10. Waterloo and City Line - Crowded, connects two busy stations which is....good? Just not very useful, not sure why it's on the map.
    9. Piccadilly Line - Like the Bakerloo, it has incredibly old rolling stock, and is often quite dirty, but it does provide an incredibly useful route. Could be so much better with new rolling stock.
    8. Northern Line - Crowded, claustrophobic, and stupidly hard to navigate (essentially two different lines treated as one). But, it's incredibly useful, and incredibly frequent. I've seen trains literally come in 30 seconds headways, really quite incredible.
    7. Central Line - Hot and sweaty, but also very useful and has a pretty unique 'loop'. Not as crowded as it used to be due to the Elizabeth Line
    6. Jubilee Line - Yeah it's useful, it has a cool sound, and it's clean (platform screen doors are also cool), but it's just so ridiculously loud. Like my ears actually ring for 5 minutes afterwards. It's sometimes painful to ride.
    5. Hammersmith and City Line - S Stock is my favorite rolling stock for functionality, and provides a useful connection at Aldgate, but apart from that the line doesn't really do much.
    4. Circle Line - Not a circle, and can be incredibly confusing to navigate, but it is such a useful line for connecting all the terminus stations.
    3. District Line - Loads of branches that are very useful. Connects most lines to each other.
    2. Victoria Line - The coolest looking rolling stock IMO, an incredibly good connection through London, and despite being the busiest route it doesn't feel crowded due to frequency.
    1. Metropolitan Line - My personal favorite due to the rolling stock, and the rich history (entire line has such a Victorian feel). The novelty of an Underground line in the countryside is also really cool. Also the only line with express service, so you can travel from the outermost suburbs to the city center in a ridiculously quick time (like 10 - 15 minutes from Harrow to central London on a fast train, crazy good). Only bad thing is sometimes it isn't so frequent past Harrow-on-the-Hill, but still.

    5) Circle. It's crowded, it's slow, and it's not even circular
    4) Piccadilly. Not a bad line, just bad trains
    3) Central. A fast, if rather crowded route across the centre
    2) Jubilee. Fast, futuristic, pattern-pulsing thyristors. Basically an underground spaceship
    1) Victoria. SPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED

  • @aristhomas3983
    @aristhomas3983 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Andrew Andrews, you say that the Northern line is 9th because it is deep, but this is the Underground for a reason. It should be deep. The Victoria that you rated as 1st runs deeper in Warren Street and Euston than the Northern anyway. Also, you clearly have something against the long escalators, whilst forgetting that the Jubilee your 3rd favourite has half the number of escalators on the network. Furthermore, the District line is far more confusing than the Northern but you never complain about the branches on that line.
And I cannot believe you say the Central is hot. The Victoria feels like a sauna. At the least the Central goes fast with its open windows, providing a natural breeze and does not stop at red signals continuously like the Victoria does.

Rank every tube station and why (no Elizabeth Line, DLR etc) my opinion
1: District Line: Goes through posh places (e.g: Wimbledon, Richmond, Hammersmith and Victoria etc) the trains it uses are by far my favourites, useful and has many branches to destinations like Ealing, Richmond, Wimbledon and Edgware Road
2: Piccadilly Line: Goes through posh places, fun to race the District Line from Acton Town to Hammersmith and the only line that goes to Heathrow Airport (And goes to Piccadilly Circus which matches the line's name)
3: Metropolitan Line: Uses my favourite train model and the line that made me love the London Underground
4: Circle Line: Similar to the District Line, uses my favourite trains and goes through most parts of Central London
5: Jubilee Line: Links to stations that the Metropolitan passes by and the only one to go to the Docklands
6: Victoria Line: Good looking and modern trains, useful, goes entirely underground and goes to good places in London
7: H&C Line: Good S Stock trains, decent views and good station designs at Baker Street, Wood Lane, Barbican etc
8: Central Line: Uses one of my favourite type of trains and mostly goes through underground but TOO DARN HOT
9: Northern Line: Not much of a fan and the platform designs are a bit bland
10: W&C Line: TOO SHORT plus its rips off the Central Line by using the same train and really dull line colour
11: Bakerloo Line: Interior of the train can be a bit dirty, bland looking platform designs and always gets part suspended and the trains have never been refurbished

    My favourite tube lines
1: Jubilee and Metropolitan Lines: Jubilee line is so clean. Metropolitan runs fast or semi-fast trains.
2: Bakerloo Line: Even though the trains are middle-aged, I love the no smoking roundel and I also love the moquette and the side seats. Its also clean.
3: District Line: I just love how it goes to Richmond, Ealing Broadway and Wimbledon to Upminster or Edgware Road. I love the part on the District line from Earls Court to Wimbledon, Richmond and Ealing Broadway.
4: Hammersmith & City Line: Not only I love the pink colour, but it’s technically the newest line because the line was converted from the Metropolitan Line, I also love the part at Royal Oak station because you can train spot National Rail trains.
5: Northern Line: I do like the motor of the train and I also like the blue handrails. It’s also my 3rd most used line.
6: Victoria Line: I do like this line, it’s my 2nd used line and how the trains are so fast with 50mph/80kph. But it’s is sometimes very loud in some parts of the tunnels.
7: Waterloo & City Line: I never used the line.
8: Circle Line: It used to be a circle but it’s not a circle anymore.
9: Piccadilly Line: Trains are very filthy and this is the 1st most used line or my local line and I like how it goes to Heathrow.
10: Central Line: I HATE THIS LINE! This line is so hot (40 degrees centigrade/celcius), never go on it during summer! They used to have armrest before the refurbishment and I hate how they removed the armrest!

Way back in 2008, I needed to get from Victoria to Kings Cross, but at the time, they were upgrading the signalling on the Victoria Line ready for the new trains so no trains ran at weekends. The Circle Line actually ran in a circle, so I was able to go via Edgeware Road to Kings Cross without changing. The following year, they had just started running the High-Speed services from North Kent to St Pancras International, so I just had to cross the road to get to Kings Cross. This was also when the started the Circle Line trains from Hammersmith and from Edgeware Road looped around once before heading back the other way.

If you're angry with the met being on the underground then take it up with London Passenger Transport Board. They're the one who made the met join. You can also blame the district for the 4th rail in the Subsurface lines. The met wanted overhead but Yerkes strongarmed them. Maybe then, the met could have electrified beyond Amersham with 100mph line storming down the fast tracks to Finchley Road and if that provoked more demand, they might have been able to duplicate the tunnel to baker Street.

It's strange to see people hating the central line so much, it's my favourite. I like the design of the trains: biggest doors, a lot of space, the red colour, the face of the train and the 1992 stock is just good in general, you may say it's hot, you're not completely wrong, however the temperature often depends on your luck and you can get that high temperature in other lines including Victoria. Also, the route is perfect, it has CENTRAL in it's name which says everything you should know about it, it runs in the center of London, making it easy to interchange to any other line and covers a lot of useful locations. I'd give second place to jubilee, third to bakerloo and fourth to Metropolitan.

You have very weird opinions, most in which is invalid.
    1. The met line goes out of London. So what? Are people outside of London not allowed to use the tube?
    2. Fast services are better, gets you faster, so no reason to complain
    3. Your arguments about the 92 is fair, but the route is relatively useful, ten times better route than the vic
    4. Saying the northern line is bad because it branches is like the dumbest thing in the world. Just check if your station is on the Bank branch, Waterloo branch (or Charing + branch)l Morden branch, Battersea Power Station Station branch, High Barnet branch (MHE should be counted as Finchley Central as you have to change there for shuttle anyway), or Edgware branch. Then check if your train goes there, the dot matrix will display its route if you are on the opposing side of Euston/Kennington to the destination. Can't be that difficult - I had no idea where Brent Cross was but when I got to the station a train pulled in already going to Kennington via Waterloo and I instantly knew that was not my train and didnt rush. It's easy for you to do the same.
    5. Your circle lone thing makes zero sense
    6. The W&C colour is nice, imo its the best colour of all eleven
    7. The W&C was deskgned for passangers coming off the London and South Western Railway (now South West Trains) to cross the river, not useless
    8. The W&C line does get rammed so there is wuite ovbviously a need for it. Also nice to ride.
    9. H&C is relatively useless as the circle goes to H'Smith and you can just change at Tower Hill for services to Barking and Upminster.
    10. (District) You said its bad before and good now. Decide.
    11. It's long, its taking you nowhere.
    12. 72 stock is not wider.
    13. You can't say a line is bad because people vomit on it. Happens everywhere.
    14. Pic line goes to Piccadilly Circus. Nothing there. It goes to Heathrow Airport. Still no use, tales a while and no soace for luggage while crossrail exists.
15: Vic line is not at all efficient and ive never seen it rammed.
    16. It's 3-4 minutes most of the time. Central line has better frequencies usually

My London Underground Line ranking from worst to best (including Elizabeth Line, Waterloo & City Line, D Stock District Line, C Stock Circle/Hammersmith & City Line, and A Stock Metropolitan Line).
    1) Victoria Line (Good train model, good motor arrival and departure sound, good stations, pretty simple and easy to learn especially for tourists, goes to a lot of places, extremely fast but also very loud, an overall perfect train for my tastes).
    2) Jubilee Line (Probably the most well known line. Goes to all the most important and best places in London. Good train model. Amazing arrival and departure sound. Good stations. Just an overall good line that gets the job done in every aspect).
    3) D Stock District Line (Used to be my favorite. An absolute classic. Best motor arrival and departure sound out of any of them. Amazing stations. Goes to good places in London, especially for tourists. Obviously it was ridiculously slow and was loud which annoyed some people but to me it just made me like it even more especially the motor clicking noises it made when departing. Shame it’s no longer in use).
    4) Elizabeth Line (Some people don’t consider it a tube line but I do simply because of just how far underground it really goes. Really nice and fancy. Good motor arrival and departure sound and lowkey it kinda sounds like a ghost. It has an eerie feel/sound to it but you can’t really hear it unless you’re underground. Overall, just a good line.
    5) Central Line (Probably the most well known tube MODEL alongside the D Stock District Line, not tube overall as that goes to the jubilee line as I said before. But when people think of the London Underground they think of this tube model or the D Stock District Line but then also think of the name Jubilee Line even though the Jubilee Line has its own separate model. But anyway, it has a good motor arrival and departure sound. Goes out really far. The stations aren’t all that though and it’s pretty basic/ordinary. Gets the job done though).
    6) S Stock District Line (The District Line, Metropolitan Line, Circle Line, and Hammersmith & City line all have the same model now with the S stock. In terms of the trains they are all going to be rated the exact same which is pretty good. They make good motor arrival and departure sounds and are very fast while also being pretty quiet which I don’t personally like but I know a lot of people like the quieter trains. Though I’m ranking the District Line above the rest because obviously it has the best stations and goes to the best places. Pretty simple routes as well and easy to learn for lots of people especially tourists. Decent line).
    7) S Stock Metropolitan Line (The first line to get the new S stock trains. Has the second best stations/areas/routes out of all the s stock trains).
    8) Piccadilly Line (Just mid tbh. Mid motor arrive and depart sounds. Old and mid model. Only above average thing about it is that it does go to some actual useful stations. It’s also an extremely ghetto line).
    9) Bakerloo (This used to be a lot lower but I’ve just grown so much more in hatred for the Hammersmith & City/Circle lines. Plus this line just grew on me a tiny bit just because of the nostalgia and how old and cultured it is. Still a really bad line though all things considered with pretty bad stations/areas, bad train model, and mid/below average motor arrival and departure sounds).
    10) S Stock Circle Line (Replaced the dreadful C Stock the same time as the D Stock got replaced on the district line. Other than that, useless line).
    11) S Stock Hammersmith & City Line (What a terrible line. The train model is the only slightly redeeming factor about it because as I said before the S Stock is very much a valid model. Though it isn’t enough to save this dreadful and absolutely useless line).
    12) Northern Line (Literally a worse version of the jubilee. Only good thing is that the model and that’s only because it has a near identical model to the jubilee line. It has the 1995 stock whereas the jubilee line has the 1996 stock. Its motor arrival and departure sounds are also very different from the jubilee line and in my opinion worse. They’re alright but are just too quiet in my opinion. Most of the stations/areas are useless and trash as well so an all round terrible line).
    13) C Stock Circle Line (Terrible model and motor arrive and depart sounds. Although, if you’re wondering why I put the circle line above the metropolitan line this time, it’s because the A stock is that bad lmao. Also, when you think of c stock, you automatically think of the circle line because the two were literally made/built for each other. They were meant to be as trash as they were. This sense of character gives them some extra points).
    14) A Stock Metropolitan Line (The A stock was just terrible in everything and the decent metropolitan line route/stations/areas aren’t enough to make up for it).
    15) C Stock Hammersmith & City Line (Legitimately awful in every single way imaginable to the point where I don’t even want to waste too much of my breath on this dreadful line).
    16) Waterloo & City Line (Terrible in every single way just like the C Stock H&C Line but at least that line had some uses. This line is completely and utterly useless).

For me, the Central, Victoria and Jubilee lines are my best ones imo as they sound good and they're fast. My least favourites are the Bakerloo and Northern line, because the Bakerloo line is very slow and poor, the Northern line trains have that dodgy engine when they're at the station.
