Pretty spot on actually and I'd guess most guitarist have more admiration for the former. But, John Frusciante is probably my favorite living guitarist so I'm admittedly biased. So happy John is back with the Peppers... am praying they can squeeze out at least one more great album.
This is an interesting thread. People are trying to explain to each other who’s better. I’ve listen to all three for a long time and I just think it’s sick they’re jamming together. Frusciante said it’s not about what you can do with a piece of wood with strings it’s about expressing your emotions through the beautiful energy that is music. Frusciante will always be my favourite guitarist of all time only because his music speaks to me and gives me the feels any time. If you love Mayer or trucks that’s awesome let us just appreciate music together man music was never about comparing who the best guitarists are. Honestly if you spend your time worrying and trying to get others to have the same musical opinion as you, you’re missing the point. Peace and love to all and I hope in years to come people will still be listening to all of these amazing artists music.

Ha! If Frusciante actually put his mind to that kind of playing, he'd pulverize Mayer. Frusciante's improvisations and creativity far exceed Mayer's. John Mayer is an excellent guitar player, but Frusciante is on a different planet.
Three amazing players with very different playing styles. I find it interesting reading the comments, I'm sure they're in admiration of each others skills rather than feeling competitive or bitterness. They're not sports men, they're all artist, self motivated and understand. It's not about who's better? Just a thought...
no they are simply admiring another great artist. they are all so different in their playing that their love for guitar playing is the only way they are connected. they all respect each others playing style and that's what matters most.
Most of the people in this comments section are only versed in popular music. However, once you start realizing what music is all about, you start to realize why Derek Trucks is king. He has a clear understanding of serving the song and not overplaying, and his lead lines are never scripted verbatum, always from the heart, and just pure emotion. You can hear john mayer completely just overplay and run through pentatonics here. No sense of dynamics or building of energy, just ripping through pentatonics so he can attempt to sound like Stevie Ray Vaughan. I will agree that Frusciante is a very soulful player as well, but his sense of melody and phrasing does not come even close to Derek, and anyone who thinks otherwise has obviously not seen real live music. Music is not about looking cool and fast and shredding scales, like Mayer and most rock and metal guys do. It's about the ability to make you feel, and Derek's impeccable phrasing does just that and so much more.
Frusciante did Blood Sugar Sex Magik which believe is one of the innovative albums in the guitar world ever, no one played the way he did then he was influenced by composing and song writing as hes always changed his playing-guitar techniques can slack when hes focussed on a different musical outlet. The main point is Frusciante is a composer and funk guitarist both Derek and John Mayer are Blues players. In a sense this is their court as they strum to the 12 bar blues.
Lol the amount of fanboy-ism for Frusciante in the comment section is crazy and I say that as a fan and as someone who was heavily influenced by him when I started playing. The fact is all three guitarists are amazing, there’s some cross over between their styles being the blues but if you really have listened to all of them then you’d know they all do their own thing. Also for anyone saying Mayer is soulless etc. I discarded him for so long as “yeah he’s talented but he writes pop songs and blah blah blah”. I actually got taken to see him live and holy shit, the guy is a actual guitar god and as crazy as it sounds, I feel his fame and success and maybe peoples preconceptions of him, leave him to be dismissed quite easily by a lot of the guitar community. The guy is far from soulless. Anyway this is an amazing vid and all 3 are great but for me Trucks does steal the show at the end, that slide playing is fucking beautiful.
The reason why is all those "Star, Idol" shows. However, there has been disputes around the best band, artist, guitarist, etc. since the time of dawn. "Best" is just small potatoes to what I grew up on: "Clapton is God" was plastered everywhere.... Anyway, this is a nice little video of three of the most talented guitarist at this time. And I have to admit; I have a sweet spot for the gentlemen on the right-hand side...
Why is every body hating on John Mayer he's way better than the people writing comments I dont see them writing there own music and then making them hits I love all three they so to speak bring different tricks to the table and that's coming from a 14 year old guitarist who's been playing for 6 years (;.
Frusciante being humble here is nice and his not comfortable playing with the guitarists his not related with their style frusciante can still outplay this two up on stage his a wild player and his got his own style even though he is kinda bit of a jimi Hendrix but hendrix is a blues guy and john isnt really so that's why I appreciate him a lot because his got one unique style
Like this one time while playing "Bold as Love" in concert he went to the breakdown on his song and started to talk to the crowd. He said something along the lines of "Check this out. I tried buying a lot of stuff to get happiness, now I'm just going to live for me and just try to love" and it sounded like something Hendrix would try and do, but he couldn't do it nearly to the same effect.
Frusciante just has something you can't emulate, something very deep about where he is coming from. Red Hot Chili Peppers - What Is Soul - Live Off The Map [HD]
@thevilllll Possible chords starting after john MAYER talks about frets in order: F#min, Bmaj, G#min, C#min, F#min, B7, E7 these all have variations on them though but to get the idea EADGBe

I love how when Derek starts, Mayer and Frusciante just stare in awe.
Ha! If Frusciante actually put his mind to that kind of playing, he'd pulverize Mayer. Frusciante's improvisations and creativity far exceed Mayer's. John Mayer is an excellent guitar player, but Frusciante is on a different planet.
Everybody knows that FRUSCIANTE is above the skies and doesn't like to fool around with the good ol' peasants
the other 2 were far from peasants
Three amazing players with very different playing styles. I find it interesting reading the comments, I'm sure they're in admiration of each others skills rather than feeling competitive or bitterness. They're not sports men, they're all artist, self motivated and understand. It's not about who's better? Just a thought...
I don’t know if I could handle being in the same room as John Mayer, John Frusciante, and Derek Trucks🔥
My 2 favorite guitarists! John & John
I would have loved for this to be a much longer interview. I love them all. That lil jam session as JM says at the end..was fun.
does anyone have any idea about the progression Mayer is playing towards the end??
I have a late answer, its a F#minor to Bsus - G#minor to C#minor - F#minor to a B7, that part of the chord progression you hear
@@luisangelEXALTA I just read this! Thank you so much! :)
@@thevilllllllllllllll your welcome sir!!
no they are simply admiring another great artist. they are all so different in their playing that their love for guitar playing is the only way they are connected. they all respect each others playing style and that's what matters most.
does anyone know what chords John Mayer plays at 3:38 to 3:55????
I know this is late but for other people that see this I figured it out: Amaj6, Emaj7, C#min7, F#min7, B9 then a run at the end F#9 F9 E9
Mayer is the artist.
Frusciante plays from the heart.
Trucks is skilled.
Frusciante also wrote that when he was about 19 years old...lol. Without doubt the most creative out of all 3
No
It’s like Trucks isn’t even playing. He’s just an open conduit to another dimension of sound. I know that’s bullshit, but that’s how it sounds
Three people who I feel like would not get along at all
Please do. In fact he's at his best live. He's a master of improvising. I know he will impress whether you will admit it or not ;)
John Frusciante solo at 2:08
Lol the amount of fanboy-ism for Frusciante in the comment section is crazy and I say that as a fan and as someone who was heavily influenced by him when I started playing.
Any tutorial on how to play Derek's brown note, that was phenomenal 👏 👌 😍
john mayer 12 bar blues style is an image of srv style.. the final lick of john in the video is definitly srv signature lick
Derek Trucks shows his superb artistry again, John Mayer sounds bluesy, polished and self-assured, Frusciante wore a nice shirt.
Frusciante is miles above mayer and trucks, loved by more people than trucks and Mayer combined. But yeah... Nice shirt
@AutomobileFunk its true though he is way better ...
I just realized this is the first time I've heard Frusciante play the blues
Both John's are my all-time favorite guitarists of this generation. Pagey and Hendrix are number one though
The last part when Dereck plays solo really makes his guitar sound like a female singer from the 50's! Insane.
I wish this video was longer
Frusciante being humble here is nice and his not comfortable playing with the guitarists his not related with their style frusciante can still outplay this two up on stage his a wild player and his got his own style even though he is kinda bit of a jimi Hendrix but hendrix is a blues guy and john isnt really so that's why I appreciate him a lot because his got one unique style
is it just me or does anybody else get chills at the mayer lick at 1:10?
Like this one time while playing "Bold as Love" in concert he went to the breakdown on his song and started to talk to the crowd. He said something along the lines of "Check this out. I tried buying a lot of stuff to get happiness, now I'm just going to live for me and just try to love" and it sounded like something Hendrix would try and do, but he couldn't do it nearly to the same effect.
Bitch please ,he was able to play all hendrix's songs on guitar at the age of 11.
Hahaha when Derek Trucks started playing the two Johns turned their heads at exactly the same moment
Frusciante just has something you can't emulate, something very deep about where he is coming from. Red Hot Chili Peppers - What Is Soul - Live Off The Map [HD]
All great and beautiful! But for me JF is NO.1
@thevilllll
Possible chords starting after john MAYER talks about frets
in order: F#min, Bmaj, G#min, C#min, F#min, B7, E7
these all have variations on them though but to get the idea
EADGBe
@TheMightyHerminator you're right! John Mayer is an awesome player, eventhough I prefer Frusciante, I like both styles, but I don't really like the way he acts, I guess I would like him much more if he was humble just like the other ones..
