    I love the look of the hydrangeas trimmed. I planted several last year to do the same thing. How big were yours when you first started pruning? Do you have a video on pruning when the were small? When should I start the pruning process? Any help would be appreciated. Love your gardens, they are beautiful!

    to help you with the hard, back breaking work trimming the bottom of your limelight hydrangea bushes , you can use a file and file down the leaf nodes. This will stop the growth of the leaf nodes turning into branches at the bottom of your hydrangea bushes.

    I like the way you keep the bottoms of the hydrangea clear of lower branches. It helps provide good air circulation for all the plants. Wish we in Arkansas had some of that rain you mentioned. We only have the 90 temps. and humidity. Unfortunately soil at my 'new' house is clay and it's very difficult to grow flowers. They start out fine in the top layer of soil I've added but stop when they hit the clay. What pests do you have, and how are you controlling them?

    This was so helpful because I have one huge hydrangea that is so wide and full at the bottom that it is crowding out all the plants around it. It's full of buds now and this video gave me courage to trim it up before it blooms.
    One tip: last week I trimmed just a few small bottom branches and I stuck them in the ground in a shaded location and every one me of them took! So I made 6 cuttings from just those few branches. [ I feel less guilty about pruning them up! ] 😩
    I love your videos!
    PS: all the colorful heucheras underneath your hydrangeas are a perfect accent filler!

      No, but I took just very tender shoots leaving only two sets of leaves. All are growing beautifully.
      I repotted once and they had a nice root system already!

    Hi Rox, my hydrangeas always flop to the ground when they flower but I saw yours were upright in an other video. When do you prune yours in spring or fall

    What is the mulch or compost you are using underneath your hydrangea hedge? I like the color and texture of it.

      Regular brown mulch from Lowes, I get a bunch of the bags when they have a sale in the Spring.

    Gosh, Roxana, you're brave girl! I went outside for a bit and came right back in. It is HOT out there! ! The heucheras look amazing. I'm going to do that to mine this weekend. DO you think I could use some of the branches I cut off to propagate and create a couple of standards for my garden? Everything looks beautiful as always!

    I love the look of your hydrangeas, and this might be a way to keep them out of the reach of deer. Do you prune the tops of them too? Do you have a video on that?

    Hi I love yr videos. In one of yr videos u used felt to line a wire planter. Where do u get yr felt from and why do u use felt instead of coco liners? Thank you

    • @SoilandMargaritas
      @SoilandMargaritas  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I get the felt from any store that sells them (hobby lobby, Michael’s, etc) you can use anything that lets water thru to line your baskets, I don’t like coco liners because they will show on some of my baskets and I don’t like the brown light color, I can use paper bags or even any fabric that would hold soil and let water run 🤷🏻‍♀️

      @deniseb7013 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SoilandMargaritas yes I have heard from utube rd that the coco liners also dry out quickly. So u have to water more often. But next year I will try yr method. 🌷

  • @debweissler7808
    @debweissler7808 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    What happens if you don’t fertilize? I’m in zone 7a and my hydrangeas are robust without feeding except for the youngest volunteers I transplant in spring. Just curious… 🤷‍♀️ I’m a lazy gardener… lol… let mine grow low to block weeds.

    • @SoilandMargaritas
      @SoilandMargaritas  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Do whatever it pleases you with the pruning! The only person your garden needs to impress is you! One year I skip the fertilizer mainly because I ran out and I noticed mid season the leaves started to show lack of nutrients (yellowing) but is going to depend a lot on your soil I think, you may get away not doing it for a few seasons but the difference in fertilizer is huge for stronger and healthier plants.
